I have observed both positive and negative aspects of the school and understand why some parents give it a low rating. If they relocated from northern states, the schools in the south might not meet their expectations. However, if they explored other public schools in Florida, they might have a different perspective. My family moved from Connecticut, and after trying a highly-rated charter school in Florida, I feel that the current school is more caring than that charter school. Regarding the teachers, there have been occasions when my kids had issues with them. However, I addressed this by leaving notes in the binder and communicating with the teacher. At first, I thought I had offended the teacher and that there would be ongoing issues. To my surprise, my son ended up loving that teacher. I understand that there are many teachers with different backgrounds and experiences, and not all of them may be the right fit for everyone. However, I also believe that parental involvement can make a difference. We have been with the school for a year now, and I have a kindergarten and a 3rd grader attending. I do have some complaints, such as the cafeteria food being unappetizing. I initially tried packing homemade meals for my kids, but after realizing that they didn't eat much of it, I gave up and let them eat the school food. In my honest review, I would say they are okay if you compare them to public schools in Connecticut in neighborhoods with home values of over $600k. However, compared to surrounding towns, there may not be a better choice.

Worst school ever, the lack of care compassion or drive from the teachers is absolutely ridiculous. These teachers don't care about your student and their success. Yes, you may get a couple that are great, but that's a couple out of the remaining teachers at the school. Oh and dont think your going to go to the principal and get anything done, all he does is smile in your face and tell you he will take care of it and he won't. The IEP teachers are the just as bad, they love to talk about other children in front of your child. They don't communicate and all they do is complain. All they care about is a paycheck and they don't do anything to help your child.
Don't walk RUN away from this school!!!
The teaching staff has gone downhill, they are lazy and quite frankly bullies to your struggling child!

The teachers here are the best of the best. The kids have a lot of fun and learn so much. The teachers in each grade work together to ensure a balanced curriculum.

TERRIBLE!!!!! I'm so glad we will be moving again, and my kids will not have to be subjected to this awful place any more! If you're moving to the area, check out Bevis, Stowers, or even Pinecrest before turning to Fishhawk Creek as a last resort.

Based on what my children were showing in homework, they knew the material. That was not reflected in their tests scores, which I could never get a straight answer on.

If you ask a teacher a question, they will not answer you at all. They will only tell you to check Edsby, which did not work for us. We even had a call with the teacher who didn't believe that we couldn't see the information on Edsby until I took a screenshot and emailed it to her.

There is severe bullying at this school. Many of the kids are out of control, which ended up with the school being spray painted with curse words towards the end of the year.

The administration is TERRIBLE!!!!!! They don't treat the parents or students with any respect. They act like anyone up there is an inconvenience to their day. I have buzzed into the front office only to have to wait 5 mins outside while they finally hit the button to let me in, and then I waited another 10 mins while they finished a personal phone call to get my sticker.

The only way IEP instructions are followed is if your child remembers to ask the teacher for them. The teachers take no responsibility or accountability for what is in the IEP.

The staff at this school has no compassion. It appears they don't want the kids to be kids and tries to run this school like a boot camp. They seem to get frustrated with a child if they do not do something right when they ask them to or if a child is being silly. They do not seem to praise the children very much, and their compassion is null and void. There is no respect for the kids or parents that attend this school.

My kindergartener was being bullied by 3rd grade boys and they were telling their teacher my child was kicking them. When I informed the principle that my daughter informed me that 3 3rd grade boys were calling her names and pinching her when she walked into the cafeteria. The principle told me she knew this boy and he would never do anything like that. I informed her this is bullying and will not be tolerated and the boys should be spoken to about their behavior. She continued to deny that this boy and his friends were guilty of being mean to my daughter. Surprisingly, they have antibullying day this week. They should probably beef up on their bullying education and victim assistance.

I am so disappointed in this school. The staff is not friendly. The first couple of days my daughter rode her scooter to school and placed it inside the fence and I would pick it up after dropping her off at the classroom. There was a lady there one day and she said so sternly, "mom, you need to put the scooter outside of the fence if you are not going to leave it", I told her that we were new to the school and I was unaware of the "scooter rule" and would gladly place it outside of the fence in the future. She laughed at me. So far this year I have had a horrible experience with the staff at this school. I do not understand how this school is rated as one of the top rated schools in the county when there is so much more for a school to be great than just the education piece.

Absolutely horrendous. This school completely destroyed my son's self esteem, love of school and it has taken two years - at different school for him finally enjoy school again. If your child struggles at all, don't walk RUN away from this school. The principal and her staff are like robots, have no compassion, only care about their A rating, your child is just a number and if they struggle or an IEP student, this school is absolutely a disservice to them. I knew from month 1, they were going to retain my child, they think that is the answer to everything. Completely deplorable and give FL schools a bad name because not all schools are like this, Fishhawk Creek is NOT a good school despite their A rating. That is strictly based on test scores and that's all they care about. They drill the kids in 3rd grade that this FSA test is the most important test of their life and they are a failure if they don't pass.

The principal is TERRIBLE, not compassionate what so ever. I don't care attitude, called her specifically to discuss my IEP student and her response was "based on his level, he will not be successful on the test (FSA test).......I'm sorry this is not what you want to hear" Who says that 4 months before a test?! The leader of the school already gave up on him by January of the school year. This trickles down to the teachers, terrible 3rd grade teachers who teach to test not to learn.

THE WORSE, they don't care about kids who have learning disabilities, they sweep "those kids" under the rug, this school completely destroyed my sons self esteem and by the end of the school year hated school. The ESE teacher is terrible as well.

Moved to Fishhawk for the schools and have been very pleased. I would recommend this school and have nothing negative to share. PTA is very active puts on many fun activities for students. Love the annual Read-O-Ween, Falcon festval and Veterans Day program! Parent involvement is high and moral has always seemed good. Office staff has always been pleasant and helpful. School is very supportive to military families. Love our bus driver too!

My children typically have 20-mins of homework at least 4 nights out of the week. That has worked well for my children and had never felt like it was too much or too little homework.

I cannot say enough about the Kindergarden, 1st & 2nd grade teachers that my children have had over the past 3yrs. They've all been wonderful, caring and thorough teachers.

I think Principal, Asst. Principal & guidance counselor have been doing a great job the past 3yrs we've been apart of the school. Mrs. Bush is no nonsense and assertive. I appreciate that.

I think the school is absolutely wonderful. My child's teacher is extremely transparent in all classroom details and how my child is doing in class. I feel confident that she is in a school that promotes personal growth as well as ensuring academic achievement.

The entire staff at the school is engaging and caring. My daughter has even become friends with the lunch ladies because they all go around checking on the kids. I could not be any happier!

My gifted son started 3rd grade this year, attending Fishhawk Creek Elementary for the first time. We found the people in the office rude and not motivated to help. His teacher labeled him a problem child because he didn't seem to be paying attention. He said he wasn't really listening because he new everything they were 'teaching.' The teacher continued to say he had issues, such as speech and listening despite his scoring above 90% on all but one of her tests. This teacher does not inspire children to learn and has led me to believe that she simply does not like children at all.

My son suffered from seperation anxiety and the literally mocked and mimicked his behaviors in a meeting with me. It was incredibly degrading and made me wonder if the administration was that frustrated to do that with me then how were they treating my son when I was not present?

Since moving to this community over 4 years ago I could not be happier. This school is amazing. I have 2 children who attend and they love it! Top notch learning and very involved parents. Very blessed.

If you have a child who struggles, please do your research before you move to this community. Nice place, tons of amenities for the kids, easy to think things will be just fine. The school is new, people are friendly, PTA organizes tons of activities for the students. We found the principal and staff approachable. However, for a struggling child, 99% of what happens, happens in the classroom and if the teacher is not able or willing to work with your child's challenges, the lovely community and school's activities will not mean much. Before you sign up your child, find out what they offer for your child, what options they have if things are not going well, and do try to rent before you buy so you are sure the school is a good fit for your children. It will be less stressful for your family in the long run.

This is our child's first year at FHC Elementary. We moved to this area specifically for the sake of placing our child in an A rated school. Apparently, a school can get an A rating without being a great school. Unfortunately, we have had continuous struggles with the administration and staff from the beginning of the school year. We are trying to get an IEP in place for our child, and it is a very stressful and exhausting process for the parent, and the staff at FHC have made it even more challenging. If I knew what I now know about the lack of care and nurturing at this school when I moved to this area, I would have researched different schools in he area and interviewed each one. It was very apparent at the time of enrollment that the principal is superficial and out if touch with reality. However, I thought that maybe she was having an "off" day when I met her and surely the teachers would have to be stellar as it's an "A" rated school. After almost a full school year of trying to give the school the benefit of a doubt, it is apparent the rest of the school reflects the same values and attitude as the principal. I am not sure how this a school is "A" rated. I just wished I didn't place so much trust in that rating; I am not sure what constitutes an "A" school, but common courtesy, respect and care for the well being of a student and their future is apparently not taken into consideration when a school is graded. It's a shame and we are at a loss as to how to get our child into a caring school with heart for next year.

I'm not impressed. I would avoid this school if at all possible if you have a child on an IEP. Take advantage of the McKay scholarship and send your child to a school that is able to handle children with Special Needs.

From personal experience, and speaking with other parents who have kids with SN, there are many teachers who don't provide the accommodations as written on IEPs, a legally binding document. One of our experiences was with a teacher who did not implement the accommodations stated, did not communicate with us if there was a social or academic issue with our child, and was not receptive to parental input whatsoever (emails, face to face conversations, conferences, multiple IEP meetings). We should have filed a grievance. It was a very painful year for our family and I was so happy and relieved when it was over.

That being said there are a few teachers who have experience with children on IEPs and if your child gets them, then you are lucky. The current ESE staff tries very hard and has always been responsive to parental concerns. However, they are only in the classroom for bits and pieces of a day, so if you have an indifferent teacher, the positive effect that the ESE staff puts in quickly gets swallowed by the negative.

Teaching to test seems to be the primary focus here. If you have a "non-standardized" child, this is not the school you want.

We moved down from the northeast and had our doubts if this school (although highly rated) was equal academically. Honestly it is difficult to judge (which is a good thing). My twin boys love the school. They were made to feel welcomed by the teachers, staff and classmates. They enjoy the campus atmosphere and have had a great experience with all their teachers in the three years we have been down here. I saw some negative comments about the principal and that may be coming from folks that have very little experience in managing. She doesn’t kowtow and I personally would rather have the truth than the fluff. The few times that I have had to speak to her she was friendly and approachable. Other comments may have more to do with the federal government and the state dictating poor academic policies than with the school itself. My experience with the teachers, the AGP teachers and the staff has all been great. My boys will forever remember this wonderful experience.

We moved here last summer (2014) and are about to finish our first school year at FHC. We have two boys in 1st and 2nd grades and both have really enjoyed their year here. We moved from a great school in IL and we were very nervous about what this move would mean for our children academically. They have thrived this year at FHC. Our youngest was struggling with reading at the beginning of the year and is now above grade level. Our oldest can be a bit lazy when it comes to school work, but his teacher has really encouraged him to keep moving forward. I would not hesitate to recommend this school to other families moving to Fish Hawk!

We are a military family who has lived all over and FishHawk schools are so far the best we have experienced. The teachers at FishHawk Creek Elementary are phenomenal and really seem to care about the students. The only downside we experienced is the principal. She was abrasive and was unpleasant to deal with, but the office staff more than made up for her shortcomings. We did not have to interact with her much and that is why we give 5 stars.

Our 6-year-old son is both autistic and advanced. He was in pre-K programs and now K at FHC. From the first day, we couldn't have been more blessed. It seems like absolutely everyone at that school knows his name, and they are SOOOO loving, patient and generous with him - teachers, secretaries, nurse, cafeteria workers, etc. He's gotten the extra attention and assistance he's needed, and he's working on a 2nd- or 3rd-grade level. We haven't had to butt heads with the principal yet (knocking on wood end table), but the experience we've had so far has been a dream.

Well let's see, I have been involved with FHC for over 8 years, first with my disabled child who received no help which would have been just making accommodations. I don't have time to fill out a plan which would force the teachers/administrators to use common sense but all they do is hide behind administrative regulation and well common sense takes a back seat. After being harrased by not only students (no bullying focus at all) but teachers I have had to virtual school her. Now my 3rd grader brings home a failing reading and math alert which is strange since her report card showed all on levels and above. This teacher did not advise at all about this and all she would have to do is write in the daily calendar "please come see me"" or she is doing poorly in xyz. Nothing no communication. I would complain to the principle but she is just a 130k performing monkey.

The teacher was absent frequently and not very smart. She actually told my daughter that princesses do not exist. Can you imagine a teacher oblivious to the many countries with monarchies still in existence? The school itself is well maintained and the campus is very nice. The front counter administration personnel are wonderful as is the school nurse. Theprincipal is not approachable, but the remainder of the staff are great. As for parent involvement, room moms of FHC could make for a dramatic reality show.

This school is way too crowded at 20-1 or greater in some classes. Ask the office . By January the parents keep enrolling with a third grade class of 31 students. Great Schools states an error in the student teacher ratio. Don't come to this school unless you expect to be packed in like sardines . Teaches are expected to teach too many children and the pressure becomes intense on the children to perform as the scores need to look good. Gossip is the rule at this school. We looked at the alternatives of Bevis which is an A rated school and Stowers which is a stones throw away. Surface appeal of this school is deceiving . I am not venting but this is a fact. Go to another school.

Our family, like many others, have experienced different schools in different states. Our son has been a student at Fishhawk Creek for two years and he's excelling wonderfully. All of his teachers are kind and compassionate and give him the motivation to succeed. We are very pleased with our experience.

If you are military and moving way out here for this school--don't. Average at best--not a 10 in my book. The commute is 45 minutes minimum every day, which would be fine if the school were great. The principal is, well I'm not sure, but not friendly, able to communicate or willing to listen. Maybe Bevis is better???

What A Huge Disappointment! One of the main reasons we moved here was because of the "great" public schools. FHC has been anything but. If you have a gifted student, do NOT send your child to this school. The administration is mediocre, at best. The principle is unresponsive, and thoroughly supports a teacher who is clearly disqualified to instruct our student. Lame, lame, lame.

Coming from a DOD school system, we hoped for a better teaching and learning experience for our son. The teacher separates boys from girls in the seating arrangement, is unorganized, and fickle. The principal is unavailable, ineffective and lacks the leadership qualities to assist the teachers to be better. It is unfortunate, because there are other teachers and staff at this school that are great. We have had a few conferences, but the lack of communication has not improved. The leadership in this school needs to change so that the teachers will have a firm, supportive, and innovative team structure to depend on.

We moved to this district from a small, poor, rural school district in Michigan that only has a Greatschools rating of "5." Let me tell you, I would choose that district over FHC every day of the week and twice on Sunday. The only positives for FHC are that there is no violence, and the teachers actually teach, but as for any "best in the area" ratings, FHC isn't that good...other districts are worse. The principal is unresponsive and has a "well, Stowers is up the road if you don't like us" attitude. The policies of the district are ridiculous -- uniforms for a public school? They do have a waiver to opt out of uniforms, which we signed for my oldest daughter...after the principal lectured us on how we were bad parents for doing it. My youngest girl is super-smart, but a bit ADD, and they treat her like she's mentally challenged, send her to the counselor's office to play for the day, and are mean to her on the school bus. I hate watching her hang her head and physically shrink as she approaches the bus. If you are a conformist suburbanite, with "yes ma'am, no ma'am" kids, you will love FHC. If you think for yourself and teach your kids to do the same, well, good luck.

Both of my kids are thriving at this school. Great memories of their former teachers each time they progress to the next grade. Wonderful environment, many opportunities to get involved, not overwhealmed with fundraising . . . all is good. Teachers are first-rate and principal seems around all the time to me. Seems to know most kids by name and considering there are 1000 kids . . . that's something.

This school is horrible all around. My child had 1 good teacher. It was his 3rd grade teacher. They cater to the "gifted" children..not to children that have a difficult time learning. They do not care and why should they. They get paid whether your child learns or not. Children with learning disabilities are sort of pushed under the rug. If your child can learn with little guidance, they will do fine at this school. Good luck getting in touch with the principle.

Mrs. Bush, Principal, at FishHawk Creek was voted Elementary Principal of the 2011-2012 school year by Hillsborough County PTA. She was nominated by the FHC PTA. This is out of 143 Elementary schools. I will say that nomination and vote speaks for itself.

I have enjoyed most of my experience with this school. My oldest daughter came here in first grade and couldn't read at all. By the time first grade was over, however, she was up to level and has continued to improve in her reading. My kids also really enjoy art and music. My experience with the teachers has been very positive. My kids have had hard-working, caring teachers each year so far. My only negatives would be the fundraisers, which I feel are pushed just a little too hard, and being nickeled and dimed to death. As for Ms. Bush, I really like her. Once when my daughter missed the bus, she drove her home because I didn't have a car to go get her with. I'm sure she has her shortcomings, but she does seem to care about the students; and that goes a long way in my book.

Chorus is great! Teachers and school would be much better under different guidance. Pam Bush is just not a great principle and does not inspire an encouraging environment. AGP is a joke. If you want your kid in it they are in. They are not all that, yet they brag themselves to other kids. My son has Aspergers .and this school nearly ruined him. They have no understanding of special needs nor any staff for it.

I have had two children at this school, starting in 2006. They, together have had 9 different teachers. Three of which were great. There are great teachers but it's hit and miss, its a parent scramble at the end of the year, b/c we are all waiting for the teacher placement forms to be put out. We are not permitted to request a teacher, which is fine, its who we DON'T want that keeps us on our toes. It's a shame to be in such a great district and have our principal not respond to the issues our school has. Most parents know that the principal is what she is...unresponsive. Its sad but true. We are right around the corner from the Number one school in the state, and we are #122..that is b/c she wont hire new teachers or move them to a more appropriate teaching level due to their personalities or lack there of. This principal has had her own teachers remove their children from certain classrooms..and still keeps that teacher on staff. I don't understand that. There is huge parent involvement in this school...most are stay at home moms. That's a huge plus. I don't know what needs to happen, if I could move, I would. All u can do is start asking around, and find out who u DONT want

My child has been as FHCE for two years and in those two years I had to challenge teachers, admin and principle. My child hate going to school, except for music and art those teachers actually allow the children to have fun instead of TEST TEST TEST. Since year one I've been trying to get my child into another school by the way of the choice program but each year we haven't been approved. This school make my child feel like an infant they can't walk their self to class when there late they must always have an escort. They can't sign themselves into school ADULT ONLY. This school doesn't prepare the children to do things for themselves. Once they hit middle school they will be shocked that they are responsible for themselves and not hand holding. They are not allowed to socialize in lunch. The lunch and the school in forces that age old comment "Children should be seen and not heard" If you are looking at this school don't walk but run away!! A child should have an overall experience at school socializing, education not just TEST TEST which is all that FHCE cares about that is why they are 10 by the board cause they push it from day one.

This school babies the children which makes the children unprepared for middle school. The principal would rather pass a over a problem to teachers or parent rather then handle it herself. The teachers I've interactive with would rather blame a child for missing work and not tell the parent until it's too late. Overall don't walk but run away from this school unless you want problem after problem to hurt your child education.

Yes, it is true that there are no recesses. Teachers have the option to schedule their own recesses. My 2nd grader has 2 a week and my 4th grader doesn't have any. The teachers are good, and the students do learn a lot. I am not happy with the principal for multiple reasons. My biggest complaint is that the school heavily ephasizes testing, so much so that I feel it stresses out the kids, or can take the fun out of learning.

There is a reason this school is rated a 10 out of 10...it is THAT good! There are NO silent lunches and curriculum is current with the times, meaning these kids are getting the education they deserve, it is fast paced and on the same quality of a private school. The kids do wear uniforms and the enviroment is foscused on education. If parents want to get involved there are MANY avenues to get involved, sometimes things are what you put into it!

I am preparing to move from illinois in the next couple of weeks and my child will attend Fishhawk is it true that there is no recess and silent lunch? This makes me very worried. Also why is everyone so unhappy with the principal?

We recently transferred here from Northern Illinois to the FHC community. My eldest daughter who excelled in school is now behind and little to no assistance is provided. Requests for conferences are unacknowledged. My once outgoing and enthusiastic girl is now a depressed and nervous wreck. She is constantly worried that she is in trouble for the simplest of things. I will be re-evaluating her continuing in this system next year.

We moved here from Europe in January and since we bought a house in FHC Elementary school district we enrolled our kids there. This was my and their first experience with an American school and I have to say the experience has been a negative one! If I had to do it again I would have tried to research the schools in the area a little more before enrolling them. Both my kid's teachers last school year were absolutely fabulous but unfortunately the administration of the school leaves much to be desired. They expect one to know how things are done at their school and information is only shared when asked specifically and rules are changed on, what seems a whim. I was also shocked to see just how wasteful the school is with food items and with paper! My children brought/bring home a plethora of neon colored paper with a bunch of useless information. This is not a way of teaching our children to perserve our environment. They have daily planers that have to be signed. Why not teach them to be independent and have them write things down! I am glad to say that one of my children now goes to Randall Middle School and so far we have no complaints.

We were so disappointed at FHC. My child was completely bored in first grade. I think some of the teachers are good and the gifted, art and music teachers are excellent. Unfortunately, the principal is totally unavailable and simply doesn't appear to want anything but average students. She doesn't allow teachers to teach to the children, only the test. They spent an entire month doing nothing but practicing for SAT. We are disappointed to be moving to another school, especially with FHC's proximity and convenience to our home. However, my child hated going to school each day (except for art day) and we are our kids only advocates.

My family moved here from Atlanta and were very surprised how great the schools are. The Principal has had a very tough job running a new school right down the street from an already established "A" rated school. The community is so large that there are 2 elementary schools inside the planned community. Both are "A" rated schools. I have found the teachers at this school to be awesome. The support from teachers outside of class and the strong PTA working together has made it an opportunity to get involved with my child's school. I love that teachers encourage parent involvement inside the classtoom.

We moved from the higher end suburbs of Chicago to here and we have two kids at FHC. I completely understand people blame the schools for all of their problems, but I'm telling you this school is lights out fantastic. Ultra clean, very professional teachers, the gifted program is very heavy on science and our kids both absolutely love their teachers. The community is tight knit and well educated. The parents are very involved, and the kids overall are very well behaved. FHC last year moved up to #19 for average FCAT scores out of 1800+ schools in FL. This is incredible for a student body of 1000+. The gifted program isn't some watered down everyone gets in program either. You have a formal standardized IQ test and if you score in the top 2%, you get in. How many are gifted at FHC? 11% of the student body is in the top 2% of IQ test takers. That is incredible. Expectations IMO are quite high, and maybe some kids and parents can't hack it. Bottom line is, this is an incredible school, in a fantastic community. Do your own research, and you will find that Bevis or FHC to Randall to Newsome is probably the most solid k-12 track in the area and the state. WE LOVE IT.
