This school was a nightmare for my daughter. She advanced to third grade without learning what she should have learned academically, and the emotional impact was severe.
The environment at Collins Elementary School was toxic and damaging. My 7-year-old lived in constant stress and fear, worrying daily about what might happen at school. No child should feel unsafe or anxious in a place meant to educate and protect them.
On top of that, the school misclassified and documented my daughter inappropriately, treating a bullying situation as something extreme and alarming. The language used by school staff and counselors was completely disproportionate and harmful for a 7-year-old child. At no point was my daughter a danger, yet the situation was handled in a way that caused unnecessary fear and trauma while failing to address the actual bullying.
The lack of leadership was deeply disappointing. Despite being informed multiple times, Principal Rebecca Sargable failed to take meaningful corrective action. Concerns were minimized, dismissed, or mishandled rather than resolved.
The classroom experience was also unacceptable. Teacher Stephanie Hanshaw failed to provide effective instruction and instead contributed to an environment of accusations and unequal treatment among very young children. As a result, students did not receive the academic foundation they should have, and the classroom environment deteriorated.
My daughter is now at a different school, and the difference is night and day. She is learning, thriving, and no longer experiencing fear or anxiety. This clearly shows that what she endured was not normalit was a direct result of Collins Elementarys school culture.
I would not recommend Collins Elementary School to any family who values safety, emotional well-being, fairness, and quality education.

Currently an student at Collins Pk-8. Teachers are pretty good, however not all care if you fail. Students are similar as well, they'd rather be somewhere else other than school. After looking at data, there is a significant contrast of 20-30% of special education students and average of all students, which might mean they are not recieving adequate support to suceed. The good part is that safety is amazing, with a school police officer, and the school also welcomes families on different events. Also the school is pretty much bully free, and it is easy to make friends. Middle school at Collins Pk-8 has been pretty good.

I am currently a 7th grader at collins pk-8 and I been here since kindergarten so let me tellyou my experience from a person who has been here for 8 years. The elementary experience here was great. Some teacher is nice some teachers are strict. It honestly depends on who your teacher is. And those who is in 3rd to 5th grade after 2023 trust me the playground was better the monkey bars weren't this slippery but when they were building the middke school they had to rebuilt it but otherwise
have fun on in school. Overall ,elementary was awesome. The middleschool experience is okay there is a few issues though. The school has limited extracirricular and the only things they have was sports as of right now. There is alot of drama and cursing in the hallways yet the AP just stays standing there not doing anything. The dress code is way out of hand they have punishments if the students break the rules but its either the school isn't monitering them or they take the punishment yet wear the same thing thing next day, its honestly better if we have uniforms. But for these issues you will eventually get used to it and ignore it . The good things about the middle school sides is the teachers are engaged to teach and is determined to make students sucessful even if they don't show it. Even if some students is innapropoate, mean or cuss alot. you will always find someone at this school. For both elementary and middle school the school lunch here is actually good i know other schools which there school lunch si bad but its actually fairly decent. Also for middle school sports these teams is competitive we won championships im not in sports team but only join if you know how to playthey aren'tgoing to teach you how to play. The principal is ready to help parents and the counselours here is good too a buncha students go there for help. A note to parents is if your child is car line actually follow the rules dont drop them off the sidewalk because there is police there and you will get in trouble. Other than that I love this school. Sure I hate waking up early and getting there but the people, the learning, the staff here is helpful and amazing. Im glad I dont have to go to a different school for middle school. I hope you join our school. Home of the panthers!

We love Collins pk-8th! Our daughter has attended for a few years and will continue through 8th grade here. We were thrilled when they expanded through middle school as the zoned option before had some troubling reviews. We have zero complaints about Collins. The staff all take their jobs seriously and the teachers truly care about the students and want them to succeed. Their A rating backs up their excellent test scores and goes to show that they are truly putting education and safety first. My youngest will be attending kindergarten in the fall and we feel so blessed to live in a neighborhood where our children can safely walk or ride their bikes to school every morning and receive an excellent education.

This really is a great school, one of the best in Hillsborough County.
Collins is K-8 now, which is awesome.
Teachers, administrators, and staff are all very communicative and helpful.
My kids have thrived in this environment, and yours will too.
Most of the kids ride bikes or walk, which gives mornings and afternoons an adorable 80's vibe.
Highly highly recommended.

Amazing school with amazing administrators, teachers, etc. We're very happy we chose Collins for our daughter. However, I think all schools need to do better in protecting our children. In addition to a resource officer, there should be a full-time person devoted only to guarding and protecting everyone at the school. Make sure all doors and gates are protected and there are no glass doors that can easily be shot through.

My child transferred to this school two years ago when we moved. I was worried that since Collins was a bigger school with considerable more children than our last school, that we would feel like just another face but the exact opposite has been true. Teachers, staff, and the principal make an effects to get to know each child and make them feel welcome and like they have a place at the school. Multiple staff greet each morning as they arrive. You will often hear the teacher and staff giving positive encouragement to the kids as they arrive. This is a great way for them to start the day. My child feels supported and happy at this school. There are numerous events for the kids throughout the year for the kids, and the school has a very active PTA that also invest a lot into the school.

There is minimal homework given with an emphasis placed a reading each day.

Posted: June 1, 2019
I have talked to the principal with a concern I had and she actively listened. I felt heard and she addresses my concern immediately.
Posted: June 1, 2019
I believe homework is up too...i each teacher, but the teachers my kids have had try not to give much homework, but do encourage students to read each day.

I've had a child at Collins for thr past several years and we haven't had any issues!
Posted: June 1, 2019
Each month they award a student from each class with an award based on a certain characteristic (respect, trustworthy, etc).
Posted: June 1, 2019
The current principal is great with communication. She does a call every Sunday with information going on that week. She will also send texts if needed. I've even heard that she walks the campus and goes into every classroom each day.
Posted: June 1, 2019
My son has an iep and is reevaluated each year. We haven't had any issues.
Posted: June 1, 2019
We've not had any issues, but I've heard from friends that the school is good at addressing any concerns.
Posted: June 1, 2019
I would give them an A! I love that it is so close to home, they do fun events throughout the year, the principal communicates with the families and the front office is always friendly and willing to help! Someone mentioned about not having an ID.... that is for the safety of all children... everyone must have a driver's license or state ID go on campus.

Not according to other reviews by other parents
Posted: September 26, 2018
Principal and office staff all seem to have over inflated egos and what I say attitude .. parents and grandparents are ADULTS not their children and dont need to be spoken to and threatened school property is NOT principals property she works there like all the other employees

We moved to the area from south Florida. We were disappointed with Collins from the start. There is no extra effort put forth by anyone on the staff. When I went in with concerns, they were brushed off. Grades dropped. Teachers don't effectively teach. And all the administration feels is important is the attendance rate...
would not recommend this school.

Posted: September 5, 2015
I truly believe it does. Students are rewarded for their hard work and excellent character.

When we were looking to purchase a home, schools were a huge deciding factor. We chose our home in part for the amazing reviews of Collins. We've been Collins Panthers for four years and have not been disappointed.
This year we have a new principal, one new AP and many new teachers and staff. Principal Sargable is an absolutely incredible, hardworking woman who truly cares for the students and their families. AP's Johnson & Ritari are amazing and the teachers both new & returning are awesome.
My children have thrived academically and the teachers truly are concerned with their students.
Another poster mentioned below that volunteers were hard to come by and the PTO was disorganized. People who generally say that are people who don't/won't volunteer their time. I've never had a problem volunteering my services and have always been encouraged to do so. The PTA hosts many family events and I imagine will continue to do so. As a result of the PTA's hard work and Collins being a great school, they were recently awarded the National PTA's School of Excellence honor for the 2015-2017 term. That's an award given to only 125 schools across the country! Www.pta.org
Collins also received a grade of A- by Niche for their 2015 Best Schools... Making it the top elementary school in Riverview and the ONLY school in Riverview (elementary, middle & high) to receive an A level grade.

Everyone is different and is going to have different experiences. The overall consensus is that Collins is a phenomenal school and only getting better.

Collins Elementary School is a GEM nestled in the beautiful Panther Trace community. The teachers, staff and administration are forward thinking, focused on education and development of their students and truly make this establishment a school of excellence. The PTA is rock solid and has done an excellent job partnering with the school, teachers, administration, students, parents and businesses in the community. Collins is a premium level campus in the Riverview area.

Collins Elementary is very mediocre school. My children came from one of the best schools in the state of Florida end Collins has no comparison to their previous school. Academically children are not challenged enough, my kids were straight A students before now they are slipping down to B and C because the teachers don't care. The PTO is a joke, all their events are poorly organised and not enough parent involvement. My kids were riding a bus without air conditioning and we are in FLorida, it gets really hot for the most part of the year. Parents keep calling the school but so far nothing is done about it. Last year a girl fainted coming out of the hot bus. The cafeteria is awful, the personnel treats the children very badly, the food is not enough and when the 5th graders come for lunch at 12.30 most things are gone. Not to mention that the regular milk is constantly bad. I will not recommend this school to anybody!

Love Collins! In my opinion, what makes Collins great are the Principal, Mr. Simms, and Assistant Principal, Ms. Madill. Responsive, caring, warm - if you've ever had the opportunity to speak with either of them, you get the sense that they genuinely love and respect their jobs. For as large as a school as it is, I feel like they know the students, all of them! And, if those in charge are so wonderful, what does that tell you about the other staff/faculty that are employed there - just fantastic!

I have just moved to the RIVERVIEW area from a very small town in TN. I have 2 daughters ages 6 and 9 the 6 yr old will be in K and the 9 yr old is going into the 4 th grade !! My 9 yr old is ADHD and has had a rough past year since we lost my husband and their dad in an accident and witnessed the tragedy!! She had a lot of problems staying focused In our small community school in Tn. It isn't that she isnt smart because she is a very bright and mature 9 yr old but the ADHD and the emotional problems wouldn't let her stay focused on her studies !! I don't know anything about the schools here and when I look up what school they should attend it tells me SUMMERFIELD CROSSINGS ELEMENTARY SCHOOL which is very close to where we live actually It's not even a half a mile from us but I want them to go to a good school where they can learn and have teachers that understand the struggles of ADHD AND THE EMOTIONAL PROBLEMS DAUGHTERS HAVE BEEN FACED WITH SO I AM ASKING FOR ANY ADVICE ANY ONE HAS TO OFFER ON WHICH SCHOOL WOULD BE BEST FOR THEM !! Thanks in advance !!!

I can imagine what the poster meant by "pleasure" through my own brief experience. My child had two subjects with this teacher and the homeroom teacher taught the others. The homeroom teacher had the other conducted one of her parent teacher conferences. Talk about night & day. She only focused on the negative and seemed to make a huge effort to find fault ( your child is a little chatty - don't I know that? they do great, but ) and spoke to me in a condescending tone throughout the whole conference. My child is an A student with top FCAT/SAT scores & extremely well behaved. He is not perfect; and I ve acknowledged his weaknesses with his teachers. I ve never had anyone speak to me in that manner before. Sure, every kid has their faults, but her approach was awful and made me glad she was not his main teacher. I have had mostly great experiences with teachers there. My children have never complained about any of them and I m sure this one does what s required of her job.

I LOVE this school! It was soooo sad to leave! You will LOVE this school here. The staff is incredibly nice, and they plan big and fun events and fundraisers all the time! The teachers give you different strategies on how to learn things, and those strategies certainly help out in the future! I still use the "touch-math" method from 1st grade! The only thing is that parents may have difficulty helping children on their homework because they learned it differently. Also, this school is very big on FCAT. They put a lot of weight on your shoulders about it, and say its no big deal. Other than that, this school is great. I have had lots of memories here, made tons of friends, (some even from different grades) and if you are going into 5th grade at this school, your last year here will be amazing!!!!

This school is the best school ever, everybody is nice and kind.I have been there since kg and now i am going to 5th grade, if this school was not the best i would go there. The teachers are very helpful, the school has a program called HOST it is for the afternoon and summer. The PE,art and music teachers make it fun to learn and to be safe. Our cafitria has excellent lunch ladys that help you clen up,not do it for you.I wish you inroll your child(ren) into Collins. I wish i can stay there forever.

I have had the pleasure of dealing with Mrs Hnizdil and Mrs Ritchie for my 5th grade student. I'm not sure what another parent was getting at by placing "pleasure" in quotation marks in reference to these ladies, but my child absolutely adored both teachers. My child excelled under their instruction. I found them both incredibly to easy talk to and they are quite involved with their students. As a parent, my big concern was with the lack of professionalism displayed by the principal. The ONLY thing Mr Sims cares about is the FCAT and that no one make waves for him. Parental concerns are dismissed out of hand by him and he has a very unpleasant attitude towards anyone who dares to question why certain things are done at his school. As long as you're not one of THOSE parents who actually cares about what's going on, you won't have any problem with the principal. On the other hand, if you are proud to be one of those parents who cares and who questions things, be prepared to deal with an arrogant man who will not answer you and who will try to stifle your attempts to get the answers you seek.

8/10 RATING & 5 stars with overall reviews should tell you something! let me tell you more ... the teachers at Collins are great creating the backbone of this school. they care alot about the students instead of just collecting a paycheck and going through the motions. I am so glad my wife found this gem and we were able to use 'school choice' and send our kids here! A little further, but much better than the other public & charter schools in southern hillsborough! I cannot say enough about Collins and what it has meant to my Family! Just read the rest of these reviews & look at all their high ratings ... the proof is in the pudding!

With all the great reviews, I hope my wife gets a job at this wonderful sounding school. She is moving down from Buffalo, New York and she is interviewing on June 19. Hopefully she gets an interview from this school right away. Gulino/Tybor

This is by far the best school in the area! Teachers are great and lots of room with no cluttering ... like most charter schools! Once our first kid went here we knew the other 2 would follow! Teachers are also easily appoachable and very much care about their students! after sending our fisrt child to a charter school in Riverview which made many promises they didn't keep & the campus being so loud and crowded ... Collins has become a blessing!!! An A rated school that keeps getting better. This is the school for you!

We love Collins Elementary School. My son moved from a very reputed private school to Collins and the results have been amazing. His interests and strengths were immediately recognized by his class teacher and he was encouraged in the right direction. A very organized school with excellent teachers and amazing involvement of PTA. One of the best schools in the area.
