I feel that my experience with Herny H. Filer Middle School was satisfactory at best. Yes, I learned in Henry Filer, but the school is lacking in a lot of aspects, such as advanced education (no offerings of geometry), clubs that differ from your usual competitive clubs such as Band and Sceme, and engaging electives, although some such as TV Production and 2-D Art have passionate teachers that care about their subject and make the class fun. Teachers try their best to engage students in the learning environment, but test scores can lag. I never felt unsafe in this school either, as fights (although they occurred) were scarce during my two years at the school.

This school is a jewel in the heart of Hialeah. Students are caring and accepting of everyone. Staff is nurturing and amicable. Parents feel they have a pair of extra eyes with Aly in the office. Aly always being a bridge between parents and teachers. Ms Estevez, the assistant principal is hands on all the time. From custodial, clerical, teachers, and administration this school is awesome!

As I look at the scores and then comments/reviews it would be easy to brush Henry H. Filer under the rug. The sad situation is that if parents aren't involved in their child's education, then what is to be expected? After charter schools took over many of the public schools in this area have been left to deal with many (not all) students whose parent/s are completely not involved. The PTA has literally 1 parent present, how sad is that for a school, completely. If parents are on here checking school ratings make sure to be involved and informed as to what is going on in the school and what YOUR CHILD is doing. It is easy to keep passing the blame onto the teachers/ schools but the reality is, informed and involved parents have children with a much higher success rate in school. At Henry H. Filer they'd want NOTHING MORE than to have parents present (and not only when the student is failing).

Welcome all new comers just to let you know this is great school to attend. The teachers and staff really do a wonderful job here wish I could take most of them when my child leaves at the end of school year 2014. No school is perfect but Henry H. Filer comes in really close. Keep up all that you are doing and welcome the new staff with patient, kindness and love.
