Unfortunately, this school has been deeply disappointing due to ongoing safety and management issues. There are frequent fights and other security concerns on campus, which creates an environment that feels unstable and unsafe for students. These incidents do not appear to be isolated, but rather part of a larger pattern that has not been effectively addressed.

The administrative team is relatively new, unprofessional, and seem disconnected from what is happening day to day. Communication is nonexistent and there is no visible follow-through when serious concerns are raised. As a result, problems often escalate rather than being proactively managed.

Classroom instruction is also impacted. Many teachers appear overwhelmed and there is a noticeable lack of classroom control which disrupts learning and makes it difficult for students who want to focus and succeed.

Overall, the school currently lacks the structure, leadership, and disciplinary consistency necessary to provide a safe and productive learning environment. Significant improvements in administration, student behavior management, and classroom support are needed before this school can meet basic expectations for education and safety.

Of my time at spoto high school, I can say that the faculty and staff are downright disrespectful to there students and we are treated to harshly
The students on the other hand are disrespectful and are overly aggressive all the time and fights happen way to often and the school handles it poorly thank you for your time If you read this review,

This school has alot against it, but we have to try to see the improvement is there and hopefully with time the administration wins. I can say we were personally scared sending our kid to this school especially since my kid had no friends joining him at this school but we wanted to try and our son joined the swim team. Best decision ever! Our Swim coach is the best, he is a total gentleman and mentor to his kids. He had made my kid come out of his shell and make great friends within the swim team. I only hope he stays at Spoto because he is a tremendous asset, so a huge shout out to Coach Nobles you are a tremendous blessing to our kids and we sincerely thank you! The Collegiate program director is awesome, she truly cares about our kids and their education so thank you Mrs Watson. We will be having our other children joining Spoto next year and hope they have a great experience also in the collegiate program and in the tennis program and the other in choir/drama program. Spoto does have fights and so do other high schools in the area, i do think they need to crack down on these repeated offenders since these kids post everything on a fight page. If you child skips school don't blame the school ,kids know whats right or wrong. Keep striving for excellence Spoto and keep these amazing teachers there for our kids!!

This school is not as bad as the ratings make it out to be. The principal and staff are great. They have big shoes to fill to help kids do their best. It's really up to parent involvement and I feel people forget that. The faculty not only have to educate these kids but unfortunately have to deal with troublesome kids who need some major adjustments in their life. There are a lot of fights but thats common in all the schools. Overall I do see the staff as caring and kids have many options to excel. I tell people all the time to read these reviews to better understand why the ratings may be low. I would like to see more improvement on behalf of the school overall, but am glad my kids go here.

Really great school and friendly staff. I dont understand why on earth this school is a 2/10. That's got to be outdated or inaccurate because I was very pleased with this school. My husband coached a few different sports there and the kids are really wonderful kids.

Maybe one teacher care the rest are just looking for a paycheck. Or they are bragging about the ROTC program.

Posted: August 20, 2016

Don't really know since the teacher do not post grades in a timely fashion. usually a month behind.

Posted: August 20, 2016

The children are bullied. If a substitute is there they do not look at a child's 504 plan they just suspend the child and work it out later. If a child is failing let them fail and the adult school will fix it later. If an electronic item was stolen, they should not have brought the item in the first place and we are too busy to check on the item and see if we can find the student who stole it.

1. The phone goes unanswered for hours. Last week I called at least 10 times student affairs and I had to call to guidance 5x's to transfer me to student affair.
2. The teachers or administration don't answer their emails.
I am only trying to get in touch with them to try and get help for my who is struggling and need help in a class. I literately have to take off work and come in the office and hope I will get someone to talk to. It is the worst school in Hillsborough county. Spoto doesn't care at all about education. They only care about discipline. Every time I come up to the school there are at 5 kids in the office that are in some kind of trouble. They don't even have an updated list for their staff on their website. Don't send your child here if you want them to have a decent education.

Posted: February 29, 2016

They need to give extra work if needed to help a child to understand their school work

Posted: February 29, 2016

They aren't professional. The parent's should be able to talk to teachers and administration concerning their child's education.

The school is small yes comparing to transferring from Tampa Bay Tech. The teachers & adminstration actually care and are involved and hands on. Everyone knows everyone. Yes there is a bad crowd but its up to the child to distant themselves from negativity. Those who are freshmens have to learn to adjust to being in a more mature world & become less depenent on the parent to help get things done. As long as you focus on the grades and get involved with knowing other classmates that you dont know or join a club like TBK(To Be Kind), sport or etc. You will be okay . I have been to three different highschools. And Spoto is the only one who has made me fill comfortable to be at as a student academic and social wise.

I go here class of 2015! the school is fine. yes there are fights periodically just like other schools. a lot of bad reviws from the parents are because those parents are over protective and are babying there children. we have great organizations like TBK (to be kind) SGA, reading club, and tons of sports. we always welcome new kids because since its a small school everybody knows everybody. I'm not going to beat around the bush there is a "bad crowd" so to speak. but everyone sticks up for everyone. the school is find and we are not huge. teachers come and go because thanks to the school they get great offers for higher positions. we welcome all and don't be afraid to come to the school because some parents are afraid of their kid seeing the truth of the world.

My son attended Spoto from 9th - until graduation. There is a bad element at this school, just like every other high school in the county. If your student is involved in extracurricular activities and wants to learn, he/she wont have an issue. The Principal has this school under control and the teachers are very good. The comments about this school being in a "poorer area" are semi-correct. The school is located near Progress Village, but there are students of all socio-economic backgrounds attending this school. From Lake St. Charles, Bloomingdale Hills to Progress Village.

This school has its fights yes, but so does every other school in a poorer area. The teachers are amazing and caring and the programs offered are FREAKING AMAZING! The stuff you get to do here as a student is so liberating and challenging that none of the fights and fires matter. Its high school. Come on now. Get involved in the fashion program, band, ROTC, SGA or Theatre. You'll see what the hype is about!

Spoto High School is an amazing school. Most of the students have positive attitudes and come to school everyday ready to learn. Our principal, Mr. Carr does an excellent job to make sure we are safe and that we are learning what we need to learn. In addition, academically this school is strong. The teachers here are awesome and know what they're doing. Because of their outstanding success I recieved high scores on all exams, EOC's, and FCAT Writes. To sum it up, at Spoto we believe in PRIDE. It's what keeps us pushing through. I take much pride in representing my school and I refuse to be sent anywhere else. Spoto is my home and I plan on riding out the rest of high school here. I am proud to be a Spartan!

The school was suppose to be better than King. It is not, it is a regular Florida High school. They have fights and now they are afraid of what has gone on in the rest of the country. If a school gets shot up in another state Florida schools will have a lock down to make sure it does not happen here. Remind your children to watch what they say because it might be misinterpreted and you may find a cop at your door saying they are afraid. The only thing Spoto brags about is the ROTC so if your into the ROTC you will do fantastic.

We transferred to the Brandon area for work and looked at a few schools before making a decision on Spoto. Yes, it is new and clean school, but there are many down sides to this school. We weren't informed that because of the location of our house, we would have to drive our child to school. This was after he had started and our house is only 7 miles away. It seems like they have a revolving door with teachers. My son had two substitute teachers for an extended time. One day he came home and said they had to color a tree in class. A tree??? This is high school! The biggest point is if you are choosing this school because it's more focused and your child wants to study film there is absolutely no chance of that if they haven't been going there since 9th grade and you better register early or your child will be stuck with a bunch of useless classes like agriculture and cooking classes where they only bake things and don't learn other aspects of cooking. The counselors or student advisers should be open and upfront with new parents and students instead of filling seats.
