I am helping to raise my grandchildren. Both are Autistic, yet smart in certain areas. Literature(comprehension) and spelling, are both their downfalls. It is challenging to say the least raising boys with this disability. Even though IEP's are in place, their spelling is terrible. My oldest struggles to read it and is embarrassed because he's not like others. To much homework at one time is emotionally crushing to them both. Their minds cannot process it and becomes overwhelming. Their afraid of getting in trouble, not being aloud to play and are made to sit and complete ALL of their homework at once...is this how you treat Autistic children?? Yes they may be able to do the problem, but when given numerous task, they fail because their brain cannot process. It's upsetting when I have boys who once liked coming to school, are crying at night struggling and crying in the morning because fear of getting introuble or embarrassed if called out by the teacher... I try to be understanding but this has really taken me back and now im just really, really upset, that this is a tragedy and almost unbearable to witness. I will be scheduling conferences to have this corrected. I like the school. Their are good, caring teachers, but its unfortunate sometimes things fall through the cracks. Im trying to be optimistic and pray it can all be rectified and my grandchildren will get help. I dont have blinders on, I raised 3 of my own, I know children go thru lazy spurts and "I don't want to's", or the oldest excuse, "I can't do it." But when they've been checked by a neurologist and diagnosed every year, well im not a doctor...so I have to try and help them anyway I can...so I have high hopes, that their was mis- communication somewhere and we can get them the help where I can see some improvement and peace for my grandsons. Im trying the best I can..I worked for the school board almost 25yrs ago, so I am familiar with things, which Im sure has changed.
So God willing, there will be a positive outcome.

The teachers work well together and team up where teachers can teach to their strengths - many have been at the school for a while and you can tell they like where they teach and the admin

Well run and I will say the school has many classes if each Grade but you could not tell as it is always quiet and doesnt seem chaotic

The homework is given only if necessary and just to build good habits or if a student does not finish something in class

I have bad experience with Meadowlane school, the students specially in the high grade are not respectable and the principle dose not care about that.

I think that there is far more to a school's desirability than good test scores. This school is too large, social bullying is rampant, and there are teachers who should not be teaching because they don't like children. It is an unfortunate combination.

My older child has experienced bullying at this school, there is an atmosphere of social hierarchy among the students which leads to alienation of some students.

Little was done in the bullying situation described above, it was a large group of girls who used exclusion and alienating tactics on children not in their circle of friends. Teachers and administration ignored the issues.

Meadowlane Intermediate is a warm, caring learning environment in which all students are given the opportunity to be the best that they can be. Everyone, from the school administration, to the teachers, counselors and staff go above and beyond to ensure the success of each child. We are so blessed to be part of such a wonderful school community.

This year I didn't have a good experience with my child 4th grader teacher. It was very dissapointing the way Administration (Principal) worked this case. We asked more than 3 times to move our child to another classroom and it was denied. The comunication between the teacher and us was not effective and it was very difficult to help our child in order for him to be successful. I can't say I don't recommend the school because every teacher is different. But this experience made me remove my child from this school and not return.

The school is Meadowlane and I am completely unhappy with the school and those that are in charge there. Still waiting on an IEP from November, Still waiting for them to understand that Domestic Violence happens to everyone in the family not just the one it involves.

Community based where everyone helps out everyone from principal right down to janitor. The principal knows every parent and student in the school and lots of support is always available.
