Normally, I’m not the type of parent to write reviews. especially on schools that the child, especially my child that supposed to learn in. My first child, who I want to remain anonymous, is struggling to find friends around school. She told me that whenever she tried to make this one girl her friend, the girl slapped her across the face with a jacket! I find this really immature and I don’t work and pay the teachers bills just to see them not educating my child! The teachers need to grow up! We’re not in fantasyland anymore! We are in elementary school and find this extremely immature because my other child, who I still want to remain anonymous, also has told me that the kids around school are cussing. And dating. In fifth grade? Elementary school? I find this extremely immature! I expect, and once more from the teachers! This is not the school I was expecting to have dating, cussing, etc. I shouldn’t be able to expect this from elementary school. If you want to put your child in Coppergate elementary for fifth grade, be my guest, because the school, I would not recommend.

Do not recommend for students or teachers.
The school board needs to get involved and overall the administration here!

They hired a cheerleader as the principal. The faculty is very sexist and rude. After 3rd grade everything started going downhill. These teachers need to realize that they're 6th graders and they are growing up and just because they are in the advanced classes doesn't mean they are going to have better behavior. This school used to be so much better. What happened.

This school has the potential to be good, but the turnover in staff is quite wild. Last year, my child went through 3 teachers. The principal seems more concerned with her appearance than any actual engagement with parents or staff. I’ve reached out to her multiple times to discuss issues and neither my phone calls nor my emails are returned.

My 3 children attend this school. We all love it. They have amazing teachers and faculty. I’ve only had a problem with one teacher and it was addressed and fixed quickly. We love our school.

I have read the past reviews on this school and I can guarantee that this is not how the school operates at the time of this review. My son has had a wonderful time at Coppergate. We have routine teacher/parent conferences, great teachers, after school clubs and really great experiences. Even when we did have a bit of a bump with another child, not only was I talked to by another teacher, I was personally called by the assistance principal regarding the issue and she spoke with me about all my concerns. It's a wonderful school.

This was an awesome school to me, until my child got attacked outside by a girl who drug her by her hair around the field, and nothing was done to that child except a couple days of ISS. But they assure me my child will be safe?!

There is an extremely high turnover rate of faculty at this school. That should a send a clear message to parents. The current admin is disorganized, and doesn't communicate well with its parents or employees. When my child's teacher left recently, it was very clear that the problems here start with the top and work their way down. This school plays favorites and has a very immature administration. I would not recommend.

My son attended Coppergate from Kindergarten until 5th grade. At the time he was living with his father. The school evaluated him incorrectly as EBD in Kindergarten and placed him in self contained classes. His father argued but the school insisted it was the best placement for him. He failed third, fourth and finally when he failed fifth the school decided he could not attend summer school in order to be passed. Our son had complained about not liking school for some time and his father had several meetings there where his concerns were brushed aside. We decided at this point he would come reside with me in Virginia. Immediately the school called me for meeting. The principle and head of ESE education told me they did not believe him to be EBD. They believe him to be in the autism spectrum. I have them the ok and they conducted a screening over the course of several months. They brought in a psychologist, a sociologist, an occupational therapist, and a medical doctor who specialized in learning disabilities. We had another meeting and they officially changed his assessment to Aspergers Autism. He finally got what he needed and thrived. He was so scared being around EBD children who were prone to physical outbursts and challenging authority that he could not function in Coppergate. At the time, I knew nothing of autism. Once I began reading about it, I saw the signs right away. He flaps his hands around his face all the time. He paces and gums to himself. He sat a rocked back and forth. He was a quiet baby who barely cried. So many signs. I'm sad I missed them, that his father missed them. But, the school had been trained. They missed it and it almost ruined the child's life. Copper gate allowed him to be bullied. He didn't know how to articulate what was happening. They placed a vulnerable autistic child precisely the worst place for him. Florida schools have always been lacking in this department. But I'll advise not to trust coppergate to assess your child's needs.

Terrible, terrible school. Cold, rude, and unwelcoming staff. The papers my children are bringing home just seem to have random grades on them. When I requested a conference with my son's teacher multiple times, I was blown off. I want my kids out of here so badly. I feel that the grade on this school is false and misleading. This school should be a D at most. This school and staff will only meet the required minimums to be considered a school. Do not expect them to go even the slightest out of their way to help.

I'm normally not the type to write reviews on anything, but as a parent I'm compelled to do so. I'm just so very unhappy with this school. There was an incident with a vice principal tugging on my child's shirt (he explained to me how she pulled him by his collar) and it was swept under the rug. I spoke to the principal and he insinuated that maybe my child confused a tap on the shoulder with her pulling on his collar (and all because she thought he did something that turned out to be another child)! I think ever since that incident and my "bringing something to their attention" my child has been looked at differently. I'm unhappy with his teacher, the staff, the principal... unfortunately everything.

I'm torn about this school. My child had a great kindergarten teacher here and that's about it. Everyone else (teachers, office staff, administration) are cold and unfriendly. I know the kids get a good education because it has always been an A school (now it is a B). I just wish I could LIKE the people at the school where I'm sending my child. I was glad to see I wasn't the only parent that felt this way on this site. The school grade is very important and so is FCAT, but it would be nice to hear nice things about the kids and see a smile once in a while, rather than constantly seeing unhappy people at parent pickup looking like they hate their jobs.

Coppergate is great K-2. Once you start 3rd grade the teachers start going downhill. My child is in the 4th grade now and I am pulling him his last 2 years and move him over to Wilkinson or Middleburg Elementary. The fourth grade teachers as a whole are all very mean to the students. They make degrading remarks and some just mark grades on papers based on what I am not sure. My child brought home 10 graded papers that were all "C"'s. There where no marks indicating what was wrong or where the grade came from. When I went through the papers and checked myself 7 were 100% correct, 2 missed 1 and 1 missed 3. Her response, the work wasn't shown. I asked "Well was that asked of him", her response "no". I was told she would change the grades, but I doubt it.
