I am extremely frustrated and disappointed with my experience at this school, particularly with how communication and fairness have been handled regarding my son.I share 50/50 parenting time with his mother through a mutual agreement, yet his 2nd grade teacher, Angelica Moreno, overstepped professional boundaries by discussing with my son where he should go after school and suggesting he favor staying with his mother. This is completely inappropriate and not a teachers role.I made multiple attempts to address this situation by requesting a meeting with the principal, assistant principal, and the teacher, but I was repeatedly ignored. The principal, Marjorie Lopez, avoided meeting with me altogether. When I finally went in person, I was redirected to the assistant principal, Joanie Moreno, who dismissed the need for a meeting and assured me the issue would be handledyet there has been no meaningful resolution. What makes matters worse is the inconsistent and selective communication. I have received calls from the teacher over minor issues, such as my son buying ice cream for friends or bringing money to school. However, I was not informed about more serious matters, like my son receiving detention or the creation of a behavior binder specifically for him. When I questioned why I was not notified, I was told directly: I will not communicate with you, sir. I will only communicate with mom. This is completely unacceptable. This pattern of behavior feels discriminatory and dismissive of my role as an equal parent. Important decisions and communications about my son should involve both parents, not just one. Additionally, attempting to influence my childs preferences about where he stays raises serious concerns.Overall, the lack of professionalism, accountability, and equal communication from both the teacher and administration is deeply concerning. I hope the school takes this feedback seriously and works to ensure that all parents are treated fairly and respectfully moving forward.

Wish this school would have had tutoring and intervention when my child needed it in their early years. School has programs like step up for students and this program is not promoted enough for the students who need the free tutoring.

My brother goes to this school down in South Florida and is currently in 5th grade. He gets as much work as I did when I was in middle school, if not surpassing it. Last year, a teacher lacking a permit to recommend students to psychologists sent my brother home with a paper suggesting he see a child psychologist specialized in children with learning impediments. Me and my parents were outraged. When further investigated, all students with a C or lower all received this paper. There have also been countless times where many students, including him, have been bullied. The teachers and principle are irresponsive and apathetic to this issue. I have only seen two teachers that truly care about their students' well being. All of the others have shown a lack of qualification in the field of teaching. The education in this school is also very, very poor. The lessons last about 2+ months if not skipped over completely. Parent "donations" are wasted on parties for the teachers.

The 5th graders' homework amount rivals that of a middle schooler's.
Posted: January 30, 2019
A mixture of poorly performing teachers and good ones.
Posted: January 30, 2019
Unresolved problems and conflicts with bullies and students being bullied.

Children are to sit in boy and girl order in complete silence within the cafeteria and has many problems with regulating recess time.

Large conflict with bullying;teachers are indifferent and do nothing to solve it.

My son is suffering in this school he has ADHD and his teachers do not know enough about the subject or care enough to get educated about it. I found out recently that he could have been enrolled in a program where he gets extra time for exams and projects the teachers had never mentioned anything to me and instead they have no problem giving his Fs everytime he forgets to turn in an assignment or turns in incomplete. He is wanting to quit school all together he hates homework and he was not like that before he started in Summerville. I regret putting him there, public school was not an option since the public schools in the area are so much worse but this school is not what I expected at all. Today is been a week since I requested a call from Ms. March the principal she has not yet call me back. My son and friends have also complained a lot about how disgusting the FOOD is, they do not want to eat there. It's not even the fact that its pizza and hot dogs and popcorn chicken almost every day but that the quality its so bad. My son its use to eating healthy meals at home. eating pizza it is not his thing, but if he has to eat it he rather not eat a pizza that it is not dripping water from the edges. I do not recommend it at all if you have another choice please go for it. I am kind of stuck there until the end of this year bc all other charters are full there are not acepting any trasfers so please dont make the same mistake I made or your child will have to suffer a whole school year. Namaste!

First let me say that we just moved to South Florida from another state this school year. I knew as soon as I started reading about the area that I would need to lower my expectations of education, but I never expected something so poor.
If you want a school that spends most class time and homework time teaching the test, promotes the screaming towards and berating of students by teachers, allows teachers to have loud verbal arguments with eachother in front of the children, creates a strong culture of obvious favoritism, sells junk food to your child in the classroom, etc... then this is the school for you.
If you value education and a positive school environment then this school is not for you.

Wow! This school was well beyond expectations! Our child really learned so much. We are honored and most proud. The POWER of a POSTMODERN EDUCATION!!! Breezy Leeza truly lives up to her name because she makes learning Kool, just like a breath of fresh air on a sunny subtropical afternoon.

Ms liza no tiene el mas minimo sentido comun no le importa en lo mas minimo escuchar a los padres y no le interesa para nada la seguridad de los ninos por ejemplo cuando llueve y no hay parqueo sierra el drive way que es donde unico no se llena de agua

I am very disappointed with Summerville. They do not follow MDCPS standards of communication with parents. Their curriculum lacks rigor and purpose. It seems like everything is a secret and if you ask for a parent conference you might get one, maybe. The principal lacks personal communication skills and likes to boast that she likes to confront parents. She is very aggressive and lacks warmth of any type. Her poor leadership style has affected her staff and their teaching . The school went down to a C. She does not demonstrate pedagogy; children are blamed for all shortcomings. Parents are shut out , unless it has to do with acquiring money for events. The good teachers are either gone or need to keep their job and just stay quiet. The principals favorite frequently screams and humiliates the children. Theirs another who has poor class management and spends her day blowing a whistle. Even though you may send a child to school with the requested supplies they will be given to everyone else; then they'll penalize your child for not bringing a red pen. This facility is a true disaster. Classes are overcrowded and they don't deliver , lots of smoke and mirrors.

Are you headed their way? TURN AROUND!!!! The administration is poor. The principal Ms. Leza is not parent friendly. She would rather ignore you and doesn't allow parent participation. Her attempts to run a tight ship should include a dress code for herself. See through, sleeveless on a principal?!?!? Oh and don't forget the leopard skin stiletto shoes the women wear. Really? Can you protect my child if you had to run? I give her a little credit, most students seem to like her. The PTSO is lacking, leadership and know how. They need a course on how to run a parent board. Most of the teachers are pretty good. The discipline techniques are a bit too tough though. Children are not allowed to go to the restroom yet sent home if a child sneezes. If the answer another child's question, they are disciplined. I once had a concern and wanted to talk to someone of authority and was hung up on instead of given a phone number. So sad.

I am seriously concerned about my kids attending this school and will pull them out immediately. The teachers at the school seem dedicated but there is a complete lack of morale at the school. The new administration (Breezy Liza is the new principal) is disgraceful and their attempts at running a tight ship borders on the ridiculous. Case in point, the police was called on a 3rd grade student with special needs because 'he couldn't be controlled' (no weapons of any kind were found in the child's possession; no threats were made). Children are never allowed to offer any explanation if a misbehavior arises; they are expected to 'be quiet' and comply with the orders given. My kids are complaining of not being allowed to talk in class (understandable), or breaks (?), or even in the cafeteria; seriously?! Apparently there are no bathroom passes after 2:00pm eventhough school is in session until 3:30pm! The new 5th grade teacher has taken to asking the kids to copy lines like 'I must not talk in class' for pages on end! After being a customer of this school since their opening I mourn for the wonderful school it once was. Our kids deserve better and so they are leaving.
