The never-ending and problem laden pursuit of diversity is alive and well at NOAH. The school has an outstanding facility and has many programs to help a variety of students with different interests. The problem is diversity just isnt a strength and it shows here like everywhere else. Different ethnicities experience the constant tension and suspicion that all races do when forced to mix. This leads to numerous challenges that I won't get into here but its not a win for anyone except bureaucrats and politicians.

As a current senior at North Atlanta High School, I can confidently say that this school has been one of the most discouraging parts of my educational experience. The environment is not just unsupportiveit often feels actively hostile. Many of the staff and faculty members seem more focused on exerting power over students than actually helping us learn or grow. Its as if being in a position of authority makes them feel entitled to disrespect and disregard the people theyre supposed to be guiding.

Students are often treated more like prisoners than learners. Simple things that could make the school day more manageablelike allowing us to listen to musicare outright banned, despite how helpful they can be for mental health and focus. Speaking of mental health, there is little to no real support in that area, and the culture here only makes things worse.

Basic systems like carpool and bus loop management are incredibly inefficient, showing a lack of planning and problem-solving from the people in charge. It feels like the adults running this school are out of touch and unbothered by how their decisions affect students.

If you have the resources to do so, I strongly recommend sending your child to a private school like Westminster or any place that values student well-being. Ive spent almost four years here and never once felt truly supported or seen by the staff. Its clear that many of them are more interested in enforcing rules and winning power struggles than they are in teaching, mentoring, or supporting students.

North Atlanta High School could be so much betterbut it would require a massive shift in culture, leadership, and priorities. Until then, I wouldnt wish this experience on anyone.

This is the largest and most diverse high school in Atlanta Public Schools. There is something for every student to get engaged, involved and ready for life beyond high school. This school has decisive school leaders, strong and very supportive teachers and coaches and true leadership opportunities for students. There are multiple state recognized or state ranked groups and sports teams. The acceptance rates to UGA and Georgia Tech out of North Atlanta are impressive and unmatched by any private school in Buckhead.

My two kids are new to US schools and both are in ESOL program. It is well ran and has lots of resources. Overall seems to be very resourceful school: good variety of classes, athletics, extra programs... Overall good experience so far!

Typical mixture for a traditional school, combination of a little outstanding, a lot of mediocre, and some terrible. Overall expect a few dedicated teachers but overall a lot of go along to get along teaching and a "leadership" team that is concerned with ensuring they do nothing that could reflect poorly on them as bureaucrats and administrators.

School leadership is not there for the students and sends that message (indirectly) in half a dozen different ways. Would rather have temps filling vacancies for months on end than hire permanent teachers. Students are instructed to use apps on phones to solve problems rather than being taught. Not a great way to demonstrate leadership or set an example.

We have been at the school beginning with the 9th grade and have been very pleased. We are very involved parents and have frequent communication with the teachers, and we support the PTA. The school is always responsive. My only wish is that the school could have actually been located in the heart of Buckhead instead of the Cobb County line. Seems unfair to Buckhead parents. But I know they wanted to include students who otherwise would not have been included. Its 2018, school at any level is what you put into it, and that core value starts at home.

My daughter spent middle school in a Buckhead private school and then requested to come to NOrth Atlanta. So far I have been impressed with the curriculum. There are courses that she can take here like Advanced Placement courses that were not available to her at her private school as a 9th grader. She loves North Atlanta and quickly got involved on the volleyball team and so far is excelling in all of her subjects. She intends to take advantage of the Move on When Ready option and the IB diploma. Again, two options that were not available to her at the private school. She did tell me there was a fight in the cafeteria one day. She is not used to any fighting in school so that was very shocking to her but she said that it only happened once. She likes her teachers and she is getting the academic rigor in her gifted/honors classes and her AP classes. So far so good! The principal is very engaged and holds regular coffee meetings with parents. The facility itself is beautfiul. I think with any educational setting it is going to be what you make of it. Get in and get involved. Whether public or private parents must be involved and supplement your educational program with outside educational programming. Parent and student involvment is key.

I have two students in the IB program and we have been very happy with the rigor and the opportunities offered at NAHS. Yes, it's tough, but teachers are supportive and my children will be very prepared for College. No school is perfect and we've heard stories from friends who are paying $20k+ for private schools about how they have to deal with bad teachers and troubled teens!
The core group of parents that support our school is a huge benefit. Very sharp, professional group of men and women. If anything needs to be addressed they work to partner with the administration to make things right.
Plus, it is a very diverse, global environment where the students are making friends from all different backgrounds and getting real life experiences here that will help them once they graduate.

Wow, what a campus! It's a beautiful campus with amazing sports facilities. We have been there since 9th and came from private because of IB and the high acceptance rate for UGA and GA Tech. She has inspiring teachers, great friends and we as a family have a community(village) of people who are greatly involved with the school and students. We are very happy there.

North Atlanta High School (NAHS) is a living, breathing, comprehensive, and wildly diverse urban American campus and environment. It reflects the overall, blended community of Atlanta, Georgia very well, and it also reflects a truthful environment in and from which students will eventually be living, working, and playing as young adults.

NAHS is not a sheltered, cloistered space by any means, and therein are its very strengths. North Atlanta High simply IS the society we live in. And the diverse student body reflects that.

That said, the teaching staff is not cultivated from the very tip top of educators. Many seem to have a difficult time with a, sometimes, unwieldy student body. But as with the student body, there are many gems in the fewer rough patches. There are truly many rewards to be found within the overall NAHS teaching and administrative staff.

If your child is an achiever, socially robust, active and engaged with the world around them, and is at NAHS to have a reality-based and strong college preparatory experience, and they are part of the International Baccalaureate (IB) program, then North Atlanta is an excellent choice of high school.

The student, and the family, with engagement and commitment to their school and the overall community surrounding them should be happy, socially and academically involved, and thrive with their years at North Atlanta. Strong achievers matriculating from North Atlanta High all seem to merge gracefully on to great colleges and fine careers as committed citizens of the world, going on with a forward-thinking, sophisticated approach to leading interesting and engaged lives.

I feel that the Atlanta Public Schools system, overall, needs to actively recruit, hire, and retain a far better level of teachers, and pay them accordingly, than the system currently reflects. There are some to first-rate teachers. And then there are just some real dud losers too.

I am NO fan of, nor advocate for, homework in absurd amounts. I feel strongly that too much homework effects family life at home after school hours, and that it causes an otherwise naturally high achieving student way too much unneeded stress. I'd like to see homework loads greatly diminished at NAHS. I find them worthless, and have yet to hear anyone justify, to my satisfaction, why copious amounts of out-of-class work are required in some classes.

It is an ok. school. I agree with some of the other reviews. If your child is not in an honor class or of a lighter color, the teachers and staff are rude. My child is very mannerable and smart young lady and I have NEVER recieved a complaint. Some of the comments that a few teachers made were unacceptable. She and another black student were asked to leave from in front of the school while waiting for me to pick her up after a game. (I live 2 minutes from the school) while a white student was okayed to continue to wait. She said the school is very segregated within the wall of what parents don't see. I just advise her to make the best of it.

My son is in the IB Program at NAHS. It is definitely challenging but I never hear him complain. Not only do his teachers know him well, but also most of the staff at NAHS . He has thrived in the busy environment and has time for after school activities. I look forward to having my younger child go there because NAHS continues to improve every year!

This school is a hidden gem in the already strong Northern Cluster of schools. The principal weaknesses are the APS administration and the historic lack of breadth in parental involvement. Those two deficiencies are being addressed, thanks to a new school board and Superintendent, and a terrifically-engaged core group of parents who are changing the paradigm around parental involvement. I believe our child will be very well prepared for life after high school because of our decision to send her here. The teachers are fantastic as a whole. If your child wants and needs an engaging school experience, this is a very good option.

I am a parent of two children who have been in the aps northern cluster of schools since they started kindergarten. We have been very pleased with each of the schools, North Atlanta in particular. The teachers are wondetful and my children are thriving. I feel they will be well prepared for college and beyond, especially in the ib program. The parents are all dedicated and spend numeroes hours helping at school. We, as a community, are fortunate to have North Atlanta in our cluster .

I have 2 kids that are taking AP and IB Diploma Program courses. There is plenty of rigor to be found at North Atlanta. There is a niche for every type of learner and every type of personality. It's a large public school so come with a positive attitude and roll up your sleeves to help make it better and better. I'm an involved parent, so if a concern arises, I address it quickly and in a positive manner. I think that's the key to a satisfactory experience at any school. APS is making major changes downtown so that bodes well for our future. Another good sign is that my kids enjoy their school despite the ups and downs that APS has created for us. It's really all about the teachers---we have so many great ones. The kids will attest to that. I do think we need more administrative support though. Our big campus could use more staff!

North Atlanta is a school that is disorganized and segregated. If your child is not in honors classes or above, it's like the teachers do not care. They let the classes run with little prep, structure, or direction. I have one son who is in 9th grade and another who will be going to 9th grade and I'm desperately looking for another school. The school might be beautiful, but it is a clear example of why one should not judge a book by it's cover.

I had a bad experience at North Atlanta High School. My son attended the school for three years and Im not judging the school based off of him but based on the way the faculty handled problems, professionalism,lack of regard for parents, no control of students, etc..I feel the school needs more qualified office staff, more friendly officials, more order in the school. I liked the school when it was at the old location better. The new school is like an office couple, doesn't even seem like a school. The staff, the teachers seem to have no etiquette or friendliness at all to parents. I really am clueless to what a mess this school is in and what a waste of tax money.. I took my child from the school and will gladly pay $30k a year for a quality and caring educational environment at a private school.....Sorry I wasted my time and my child's time...Decisions about schools affect your childs entire life...........

I have a sophomore, senior (and a graduate who is doing very well in college) at North Atlanta High School. The IB program is fabulous and prepares the students well for college. Five years ago I did not feel comfortable sending my children to this school, but now I feel totally comfortable and it is due to the hard work and dedication of Mark Mygrant and the other team members that were ousted by Errol Davis and his cronies on the APS school board. Yes, we are excited about Dr Taylor coming and I am certain that he will make some positive well needed changes, but the way the transistion was handled was UNPROFESSIONAL and unjustifiable. The facts and figures Errol threw around have proven to be untrue,. His actions were politically motivated and he needs to GO. We must not let his contract be extended.

I am the parent of a sophomore. I went to the number 1 ranked public high school in the nation. NAHS isn't anywhere close. The teaching is mediocre, at best, and the administrative staff, up to now has proven to be below average. One of the most recent hires, a chemistry teacher, appears to be disinterested in her subject area and students. An honors English teacher was brought on a month after the school year began, despite the fact that the administration had many months foreknowledge that the her predecessor was retiring. There are frequent fights among students - particularly among the girls - it appears. The only light at the end of the tunnel is that the Superintendent of APS is finally cleaning house. But, the jury is still out. The new guys has a challenging job awaiting. He begins next week.

We decided to try public school after moving from S. Fulton, after reading some reviews about the programs offered. What a mistake, the students are divided totally along racial lines, with inappropriate language and respect issues unchecked. It's a shame ,but students shouldn't have to fend off constant harassment and clicks, let alone elements that are dangerous. Back to private school!

I am currently a Junior at NAHS in the Journalism SLC. I love the school and would recommend it to most people. There is a sense of community and diversity at our school that my private school friends dont have or understand. I think the classes are less challenging than some other schools in the area, but the IB program is very good and prepares you well for collage. Teachers at NAHS are just like at other schools, sometimes they are great, sometimes not so great. The International Studies SLC is the best SLC for a more serious student because most of the students have similar motivation. We have a very diverse set of electives including 4 languages (French, Spanish, Chinese, and Arabic), several art classes, dance classes, drama classes, guitar, music tech, newspaper, film, anthropology, and yearbook just to name a few. The best part of this school isnt the academics though, they are good, and students have proven you can get into a good school (last year a friend of mine went to Harvard), but it is the life experience. I met people at NAHS I would never have met at private schools in the area and I feel like because of that I will be able to function better in a normal world.

I'm a student at North Atlanta. I can honestly say that this school is not living up to my expectations. It can offer great things, such as the I.B programs. However, as a sophomore, I am not in the I.B program (yet, next year I will be) and the teachers are horrible. Half of my classes are being controlled by the students, not the teachers, and parent complaints to the Principal get you nowhere. I actually came upon this website when looking into other schools, because I plan on switching to a private school for my junior and senior years of high school. North Atlanta is an excellent High School if you lay the ground work..i.e...PARENTAL INVOLVEMENT. Teachers are teaching...so send your child(ren) prepared to excel academically and socially. Excellent atmosphere in a very nice area of Atlanta...nice campus...sort of like a small college campus. Friendly and VERY visible Principal. Behavior by a few....as in the previous post ...are the exception. GO WARRIORS!

I attended a girls' basketball game in your gym February 4 and was shocked at the suggestive and inappropriate dancing of the cheerleading team. It was equivalent to something you might see at a men's club. Shouldn't a school be a safe haven for our children against the decaying moral standard that has invaded our society. Shouldn't our schools set the moral standard for our children. In years past, this would have been considered a serious enough transgression to disban the athletic program. Not only was it very disheartening to see this behavior in our schools, but, also to see the tolerance by the staff.
