This school has also gotten me put in the hospital and put on an antidepressant, because of bullying it hurts me to say that they are the Devil over there don't overlook their mascot name, the school I go to now has helped me understand how different teaching can be if in person doesn't work home school will at Griggs I'm not botting this but this school is better than Marietta if you want more costly things now got to MHS.

The students run other students out of this school, teachers lie, girls at this school get at least 45% of males in trouble and I had to transfer out of there, Please know they are called the blue "Devils," and yes they are devils over there if you want a good school experience for your kids do home school at Griggs International Academy. If I could, I would give it 0 stars and sue them for emotional damage

I have gone to Marietta High School for two. years now. Freshman year, I went to a small private school. Marietta is complicated. Simply put, its not for the weak of heart. Socially speaking, there is a significant cultural and socioeconomic divide, even if the racial division has decreased in recent years. Theres a depressing culture of verbal bullying and gossip here, but physical fights have almost disappeared. Teachers tend to turn a blind eye when it comes to students gossiping, bullying, or using slurs. The social aspect is just like many high schoolsbrutal and cliquey, but ultimately what you make of it. Moving on to academics: From what Ive seen, our ESOL program is horrible. On level classes, with the exception of math and CTAE, are comically bad and serve mostly as daycare. This is because of both the teachers and the students. Honors courses are okay, but not worth their title (with the exception of mathematics and science). There is a wide variety of teachers, with some being supportive and excellent, and others being apathetic, passive aggressive, and seemingly unaware of how to educate their students. The IB program is similar. Overall, their STEM program is impressive, but everything else is barely college prep. There is a distinct lack of actual teaching in most of the classes (most assignments revolve around googling answers). There is virtually no required reading. The administration is the greatest issue at Marietta. Dont expect any resources to be given to you, especially regarding academics. Clubs are a joke, with the exception of a few such as HOSA. There is a major focus on athletics. As for the Old Marietta people: yes, they exist. They make life difficult, and are some of the rudest Ive ever met. The students tend to be in IB, but are often lazy and disrespectful towards teachers. Their privilege is obvious. Overall, I think marietta is a school that has improved a lot, but still values its history. If you are an old marietta student, youll be bullied a lot, but also receive the best treatment. Nearly everyone else is ignored. Also- despite what websites say, most classes are 30-34 people, including IB. Classroom control is a HUGE issue. The bathrooms are bad. J-hall is amazing. Schoology needs to be replaced with Google classroom. Phones are always out. Tardy policies are stupid. A clear and coherent curriculum is nonexistent.

It seems that there's this false pretense that all students learn the same. The school could do more to make sure that instruction is given in such a way that all students can understand what's being taught no matter what their learning style or needs are.

What the school may not understand is that bullying is more than just physical contact or harassment. It also includes verbal bullying. Sometimes teachers are hyperaware of issues going on in the classroom but they do not try to mediate the problem. Bullying at this school can often go unnoticed or, if anything, the teachers/administration may turn a blind eye.

Marietta High School is a pretty good school, and a lot of emphasis is placed on education (as it should be). All students have a fair chance to challenge themselves, reach their potential and get college ready.

This school has its ups and downs. The new tardy policy at this school is ridiculous! If a your child gets 4 tardies your child is in detention missing class. And the list goes on..This means waking up late is a problem. It's good they care about attendance but that's taking it too far...You can't control people wanting to care about school. Not all students having 10 tardies are bad kids, I have a 3.5. Stop putting so much pressure. plus some teachers are bad and classes are zoos. I had a teacher teaching out a book, late grading, giving zeros when absent ( no e's in grade book) ,giving packets, giving homework that didn't cover today's lesson ( some get even frustrated when asking questions).DONT BE FOOLED BY saying they are an ib school. Even some admistraters pick on troublesome kids thinking they are in gangs, have drugs in folders & etc. Some classes are zoos. It seems to me that some teacher don't know how to discipline kids, let kids argue and bully others. This school does have an old Marietta problem as described in comments. I wish some students weren't so clickish and adults weren't so rude at times( but is it like that in other schools)The upsides is they have a 8 class schedule, tutoring after school , strong school spirt, success center and a ib program. School used to better but please don't make it prison.

I hate this school. EVERY clique is insufferable, from the emos to the old mariettas. It is very hard to find someone who acts like a decent human being. The teachers and faculty are especially awful, only caring about the legacies. It's a terrible town in general.

The school is a great learning environment. School offers 8 classes per a semester unlike some cobb county schools (only four). 8 classes per a day means you can get your credits faster, and days seem more interesting having a variety of classes. Its very easy to get caught up , unlike having only 4 classes per a semester. The school's spirt is wonderful. There are many things to get involved in this school, such as IB,clubs,sports and etc. The school even offers FREE tutoring after school (New program) to help in math, L.A and etc. The lunch is good especially the wings, and lunch booths!. I am a former student and,the school deserves more respect.

My daughter attended MHS for the IB program. I was very pleased with the way the school handled the discipline issues that arose and always felt like my daughter was in an environment that promoted safety and responsibility in its student body

My daughter came to Marietta high school from a very academically rigorous private school. I think the IB program was challenging and provided her with a fabulous, well-rounded education. And it was FREE!

I am a senior student who is from out of state and I have attended Marietta for two years now. Being there really opened my eyes to how a lack of exposure could do serious damage. The "Old Marietta" students are definitely more acknowledged and privileged than other students who are not from here, and it is very frustrating. My first day at Marietta, I was not introduced as a new student or anything. I was automatically expected to conform into the school's expectations. Moving on to the serious BULLYING issue. Old Marietta types consider themselves as a big family so this is what they do not reveal. There are two parts to their student body: "Lames" and the "Cool kids". I agree with the "Old marietta" rules the school sayings that have been on here, luckily i am somewhat old marietta, even though i did not attend a marietta city school until freshman year, my family and i have always lived in marietta. I have been lucky to succeed as much as i have even though the odds can be stacked against you in some situations. In my opinion, Cobb county schools are better put together and are more fair with there rules. Or it might just be that some marietta teachers and administrators are just straight up dicks. The positive things about marietta however are that it is a school with a lot of tradition, the principle is great, and it would be a great high school expierence if you do all the right things

I attend Marietta High School, and I am a current Junior. I disagree with the comment below saying that you have to be a rich white student in IB and Old Marietta to fit in. I am not Old Marietta. I moved here in 6th grade. I'm not rich. I am however partial IB. I fit in just fine. My parents are VERY involved with the school, and they aren't alumni. This school is one of the best schools in the country. The teachers do their best to make sure you succeed. The students and staff are extremely welcoming. If you are considering Marietta, I highly recommend it!
