I am a student at greenville highschool currently. I joined the school in ny 10th grade year, and I must say that this school was a terrible school experience. Everything other people say about this school, all of the negativity towards it, it's all well deserved. My class schedule wasn't monitered properly, keeping me from graduating early. Our GPA's were pushed upwards to points that they should not have been at. Our grades were raised despite performance, all to keep butts in seats and keep the money flowing. There is certainly predjudice within this school as well. The athletes were treated better than everyone else, and in the senior class, it was only the athletes that recieved the important information for our senior activities. When I requested to be added to the senior groupchat to recieve our information, I was met with attitude and was talked down to as if it was offensive to have been asking that. It is listed that we have plenty of classes, like chemistry and various other sciences, but when inquired about, I was told they "didn't have enough participation". So they weren't real classes. We have a science lab that is being utilized as storage. Our classes are grades behind, and the school is not readying its children for the future. For example, our Biology class, a required 11th grade class, is at most a 9th grade level class. If that. The teachers give five hundred chances for students to raise their grade, and the students aren't made to care. Testing scores and grades are incredibly low, and the student literacy is ridiculous. And yet our graduation rate is so high? It shocks me how terrible other students write in the 12th grade. I have taught better than most teachers at the school. In fact, I have had a fellow student ask me if a space goes after a period before. I have had fellow students ask me how to find the average of three numbers. With a calculator. I would not send another child to this school ever. Students are not taught anything. No student left behind has become No student has to do work. Do not send your children to this school.

Not a professional school at all from the Principal to the assistant principal THE sad part about is that it starts from the top EVERY SCHOOL YEAR THE WHOLE SCHOOL HAS SUMMER SCHOOL WHAT DOES THAT TELL YOU AND TO TOP THINGS OFF THE MIDDLE AND HIGH SCHOOL ARE TOGETHER!! THE MIDDLE SCHOOL KIDS ARE CRAMED ON ONE HALL AND THE HIGH SCHOOL HAS TWO HALLS VERY UNORGANIZED AND VERY UNPROFESSIONAL. THEY SAY FIRST APPEARANCE IS EVERYTHING. PLEASE DO YOUR RESEARCH BEFORE BUYING A HOME. THEY JUST WONT THE TAX DOLLARS.

I am a student at GHS and I must say, I absolutely cannot wait to leave. I moved here in the middle of my sophomore year, and I taught trigonometry better than my own teacher did, and I was in advanced honors math. The teachers do not seem to care about the students, unless they're black, and that is simply pathetic. It saddens me to know that just because I am white in Greenville, I get treated differently than the African Americans. Furthermore, the administration cares more about our uniforms than the education itself. The high school invested in new portable iPads and laptops for the school, but nothing for the classrooms. The principle has threatened the students that if they do not show up in school uniform, he will press charges, suspend, even eliminate the student from the school all together. This is outrageous! GHS is a terrible school for young children and teenagers to attend. The influences to the kids around here are grotesque, and I am seriously worried about future generations. The schools are old, packed, and rat infested. If you had any sense in your brain, you would keep your children away from Greenville and get then a REAL and proper education.

I am now a student at Greenville High School. I must say that the way people criticize ghs is grotesque. I attended upson lee north elementary for kindergarten and have attended meriwether county schools since. I have heard many stories of peoples experience in this district and its not given the credit it diserves. I love ghs and would fight anyone who tried to make me leave. I have made many friends and the teachers care. meriwether is a poor county yes but at school everyone knows everyone. It has its ups and downs but in the end we are a family. I feel so safe at school and feel free to talk about anything on my mind with tha faculty and staff. The teachers understand and help as much as they can even in our home situations. we have some of the brightest most talented students and it reflects if we allow you to see from the inside. I am apart of the distinguished ladies club, the school band and beta club; i have good grades and thrive for success but could not do it without the motivation of the ghs body. If your interested in city schools ghs isnt for you but if you want a great learning experience and to feel wanted then its a perfect fit. I AM A GHS PATRIOT WITH XTRA PRIDE!

My rating is based on my 1970 graduation from Greenville High School. I just had my book, "Bridge to Nowhere," a Christian mystery-romance-suspense published by Sunpenny in England and it hit the best sellers' list within the first month of release...so I would say that Greenville High School did something right! Plus I note that one of my former classmates is a doctor. I had great teachers when I attended. Sorry if it's not the same now. A lot of a student's success (or lack of) is dependent on his or her own attitude and goal setting.

I graduated from GHS in 2008. I agree with most of the negative things said here, as I had to endure 4 torturous years at this "educational institution." The office administration puts too much emphasis on the school's sports teams and too little on actual education. To this day, it still irks me that the teachers and principal took all of the credit for my graduating class having the highest SAT scores in years. Of course, it's not all about the teachers and the office; a lot of it comes from the students being crass, rude, and unwilling to learn. I knew more than enough students from the area to know that much. All of the best students and teachers, to my knowledge, got out of there as quick as possible. I know personally of two teachers that were forced to find other jobs because they were in danger of being let go by the principal simply because they got along too well with the students. In short, parents, if you decide you want your child to attend a Merriwether County Public School - decide differently. Please.

This school. Where can I even start? I came to this school in the eleventh grade after a year and a half in Clayton County, and I missed my original school immensely. I lost my AP credits because Greenville does not offer AP courses. Most of the teachers had an attitude of "pass this test and get out". I can count on one hand the number of teachers who sat down to help me when I needed it. The administration was the least helpful, most of all the then-principal. I still remember my rage when there was a new football stadium built...while the computer lab was still full of ten-year-old iMacs. Long story short, do not send your children here. Those who are harking parental involvement: that's not going to change a crippled administration and school board. Fly, you fools.

Enjoyed the comments, it seems currently any parent with an I.Q. higher than their shoe size would steer clear of any high school producing students and former students writing this. "I myself is in college working towards getting a degree in biology...." The English course in hill billy must be tops in the nation at GHS. Incomplete fragmented sentences surely are encouraged there. The state rating for GHS speaks volumes. I did note a glimmer of hope in some of the written comments, so save the hate / ranting. In fact, I don't hold the students or alumni fully accountable, bless their little hearts for trying to be educated in a back woods swamp and then running for their lives to get out of there.

I am currently attending GHS. Overall I'm not really satisifed with the education we are receiving. At one point during the year, one of my teachers had something happen and he didn't come after January. And we didn't get in an actual teacher, not a sub, until a week before the EOCT. I also feel that the office worries more about the wrong things, such as dress code, more than the education. Overall, the teachers will do anything to see you pass and as long as you put in an effort then they will see that you succeed in their class. Alot of the students here worry about the wrong things too so there is usually alot of nonsense going on. However, I have met a few good people that would do anything for me. So all in all, its an alright school but with the education, not so much.
