I am writing this review from my experience attending BRMS from the 2022-2023 school year until 2024-2025. Blackmon road will always have a place in my heart. This is the only school in Columbus that I know of that goes out of its way to fund activities for students, such as:teachers vs. players volleyball games, freedom Friday (every Friday if you did well throughout the week you could spend the last 30 minutes ((I think) of school hanging out with your friends either outside,in the gym, or in the hallway depending on the weather) IXL parties, and a bunch of other stuff! The student life was amazing but you also have to take in account that I was in the top 20% in the school (all A’s, in highschool classes, and in a bunch of clubs) so I was surrounded by people likewise. So I could see how someone not in that could’ve had a bad time but if you put in the work you’ll be fine!

I came into Blackmon Road Elementary today around 11:00 AM to check my daughters in after a doctor’s appointment. There were about five faculty members in the front office, and not one person acknowledged us or even spoke. When I approached the desk, the Caucasian lady sitting there asked, “Were they at the doctor or just coming in late today?”—in a very offensive tone. You never know what a family may be going through in the morning, and I felt her attitude lacked empathy and professionalism. As the front desk staff, greeting people should be the first responsibility. I’m tired of adults expecting so much from children when they don’t model the same basic respect. A simple greeting and kind tone matter, especially in a school setting.

My child attends BRMS 2023 & won't be returning. The school seems nice on the surface but kids are severely stressed out. The work overload have kids doing homework all hours of night and on weekends. The principal seems nice but teachers only seem concerned about keeping grades high so they can stay competitive with other schools. Brms doesn't care about their students or their mental health and it shows. I honestly feel bad for the kids overall mental health and well being.

(This was written in 2021 and I am sharing about my experiences from 2019-2021)
Academically, BRMS is alright. The students get good grades for the most part. However, some teachers don't even teach. They give you a video by someone else and give you work to do. They don't make it so that you can remember it. The teachers just want you to do the work, they don't care if you understand it, they just want you to do the work. Most of the work they give is just "busy work". one of the teachers would insult, make fun of, and yell at students for no reason. once, that teacher yelled and almost sent a girl to the office for taking notes because he thought she was drawing. Some of the teachers play favorites and are not fair.
The counselor is terrible. No matter what you talk to her about, she doesn't do anything about it. She usually makes it about grades. Also, she doesn't understand how some of the kids minds work. Most kids these days put fake masks on and don't show their problems. she doesn't understand that. personally, i was called to her office and she asked if i wanted to talk. i was having a rough day so i told her what was wrong and she said "But i see you going to the bus and you are always laughing and smiling. There can't possibly be a problem." The school also does not care about mental health. They say they do but they really don't. If you are getting bullied, the school will act like its not happening or just make it out to be a small problem. All the school is trying to do is make themselves look good but they don't prioritize the students. If a student is struggling mentally and not doing their work to try and help their mental state, they will get them in trouble for not doing their work. I would not recommend sending your child here at all. BRMS is so bad that my family and I are considering moving so i can go to another school.

I dont like this school i will let one of my children go because he wants to but I am not letting my daughter go to this school.

My dad used to work there as the pe coach. I never got to go but great sports, a edifices, clubs. The teachers were awesome and always helpful and so were the students.

It is not overwhelming and just right. It challenges u but that is good. The students develop good skills from it

They have many clubs and organizations that teach and enforce that. Also the teachers and administrators also do so.

How is Blackmon Road Middle School now, I am not sure, but it was great when my older child attended there a few years back. The teachers are exceptional! My child was enrolled in the St. Elmo gifted program since Kindergarten at Britt David, and when transitioned into middle school, it was very smooth and he continues to excel and now he's at CHS, doing great! Thumbs up all the way for Blackmon and for the great schools and programs we have here in Muscogee County District!

My son has an IEP, FBA, & BIP and the special education teacher has yet to call me. They switch your child's class and rearrange schedules without notifying parents and they suspended my child for an accommodation on his IEP. This school is not only bad it's breaking federal laws. STAY AWAY!!!!

As a parent I am not pleased with this school. The administration seem to have major ego issues. We have had issues with the school counselor, as well. My child has never been more unhappy in his life!!! I am considering sending my children elsewhere next year.

As a former BRMS student, I am very disappointed about my experience at this school. Drugs and fights were common throughout my time there. Out of my 3 years there, I only had a couple teachers that really were passionate about teaching. Some of my teaches were rude. The work consisted of "busy work" in many classes. Homework overloads were common. Once I was doing work until 2 AM. There were no field trips and no clubs. In 8th grade, I would work really hard writing papers, but I never got any back. I never knew what to improve on, all I got back was a number. The same teacher gave us ridiculous topics, which were bias and practically impossible to write. The cafeteria was disgusting, and there were cockroaches crawling around. They served very small portions as well. Because of this, I always brought my lunch. The lunch times were bizzare. 6th graders ate around 10: 45 and 8th graders around 1:45. Also, bathoom visits were rushed. There weren't any mirrors in any of the bathrooms. They had all been taken down. The teachers encourage you to read, but the library is small and filled with old books. There are no new, and interesting books that teens would like.
