I am a graduate of this school. I was given down the road for my mental health. I also have a parent who works in this school. The staff is friendly but not understanding; it always depends on the department. There can be lots of bullying, especially if you are in higher classes. There are tons of people who care and tons that don't. I know safety has improved since I was there due to new leadership, but I seldom felt safe when I was there. This was due to the fact I felt trapped and unwelcome when I was there. Especially since I had a parent on staff.

Both of our daughters have attended this high school. Our oldest was able to get into the school of her choice standardized test scores in the top 15% of the country. The teachers have the students best interests as the basis for their lessons. They focus on preparation for the next level be it college or trades. The students have the resources and advice to make great career choices. We moved to LaGrange from one of the top school districts in Florida and could choose to live in any of the surrounding counties. We chose LaGrange and Troup county because of their schools. I recommends digging deeper than the superficial scores most sites show. Statistically, Troup county schools had historically better scores for students below the poverty level than surrounding counties. These students do not get the home support as the more affluent students might in the surrounding counties (Lee, Coweta, etc.). This means they are getting the bulk of their learning at school. Imagine if your student, and the support they receive at home were getting that type of quality instruction. It's clear that they can be at the top of their class and have their choice of schools. The last few years have had students go to many of the top universities like Harvard, Yale, Georgia Tech, Duke, etc. This is a great school and system.

It has been my experience that the teachers have definite steps they are to take to help students improve grades when they fall behind. Most teachers schedules 2 days for tutoring. The have required my students to come in one to study and one day to make up a test.

While the school itself is great, the teaching, not so much. The teachers like to pick favorite students and if a student is a trouble maker, well, forget them. If you have too many days in the box or oss, you're not given any work to make up and if it's bad enough, you fail the entire school year. The teachers did NOT try to help my student get his grades back up and I was told he'd be repeating his grade another year. They made no effort to help him at all and I was forced to remove him from the school or suffer through another three years with the school officials. Maybe if they got some new teachers, a new principal and new administrative staff, I'd consider the school better, but as of right now, it's horrible.
