Both of my children have grown so much while attending Wood Acres. They have learned that hard work is rewarding while being emotionally supported by their peers and their teachers. As a former Cobb county teacher, I feel much happier with my kids at Wood Acres and not on screens at their districted schools.

The parents at Wood Acres are very friendly and welcomed us into school events with open arms. The principal takes the time to learn my children’s names and follow their progress throughout the grade levels. Even the security personnel greet me at drop off and dismissal with a smile and a wave. My children feel safe and secure here, and I feel like I’ve made the right choice for them as their parent.

Visited this school and was told they had 2 openings. The admissions person quickly sent an email to me after I drove off stating they are waitlisted. I truly believe racism is the reason for the change.

This school has exceeded all expectations since we enrolled our 3-year-old. It has a fantastic culture and we see how rapidly our son is advancing. Unprovoked, he's told us many times how much he loves his school, and thanked us for moving him the Wood Acres. What 3-year-old says that?

My daughter attended Wood Acres from 5th grade - 8th grade. She graduated 2 years ago and now attends the Pope High School STEM Academy. She was more than prepared to go to High School. Wood Acres prepared her not only for academics but also socially and emotionally. My daughter loved all of the teachers at Wood Acres and continues to return as an alum to visit them often. The confidence and the organizational skills that my daughter received in her middle school years at Wood Acres has helped her succeed every day in high school. She is incredibly conscientious and always does her homework. She also knows how to advocate for herself and be responsible for her studies in high school. Thank you, Wood Acres, for being such a wonderful home for my daughter for Middle School and giving her the tools to be successful in high school and beyond!

Our son attended Wood Acres from the very beginning of his education, the 2's class. They knew him well and his many struggles. In Kindergarten we expressed a lot of concern that he continue and would be doing without support services which he was entitled to in the public system and Wood Acres assured us that they would be able to provide appropriate support - which, ultimately they did not. We believe that we were encouraged to continue with our sons' education not because it was right for him but the money, as we had two other children enrolled in the early school program as well. This is my very abbreviated review as space allows but we can not recommend the school for any child with any special needs and since we were misled about what was right for our son by the school and administration that we trusted.

Both my kids have been at wood acres for a long time. My youngest has been there since the 2-year-old program through third grade, and the oldest was there for Early learning and then from 3rd to 6th. We tried public school for 3 years once my oldest went to kindergarten. Wood acres is leagues above. The small class sizes, caring teachers and open communication between parents and teachers allow our children to obtain a wonderful education. It was one of these experienced and great teachers that made us aware that my son has ADHD. This was confirmed with doctors. The awareness, and ability to work with teachers in school, has allowed him to become a straight A student , regardless of this.

The PE program has really improved over the last few years. The arts, science and music programs are great..... All though the school could use more- better instruments for music.

The Spanish program really becomes wonderful after 4th grade where it is taken a little bit more seriously.

We had one instance of one child bullying my child, and the teacher dealt with it beautifully. Never had any issues ever again.

The only time any of my children have been kept from recess as if they have been" playing too much" in class and fall behind all the other children doing their work. I feel like that teaches accountability, time management, and consequence.

I love their writing program... They teach kids cursive that has been proven to have great effects on learning and brain development. The reading programs are wonderful, as well as math and science. They really focus on the core learning skills that will help kids develop, and lay the groundwork for them to continue their academics successfully.

Wood Acres is an amazing school with small class sizes, great activities and a tremendous early reading program. The extra curriculars here are also top notch and provide balance to a fairly rigorous academic program. Our children have grown tremendously here and frankly, was a blessing during COVID as well when so many other schools were closed or virtual. The teachers are amazing and truly care for your children. Highly recommend to other parents out there.

They do not have the facilities they say they advertise. No library, no STEAM, no music class. They showed us this beautiful campus when we started and gave every excuse to not allow children to visit these areas. The administration is rude and unkind to parents if they ask any questions about policy. Not the best education for the money.

This school was at one time an excellent place to send your child. The education that is provided here is top notch, however the administration is NOT. They are not following CDC guidelines for masks, they are not providing library services for children, the music program teaches them "drumming" on plastic buckets, and the administration does not respect parents wishes for what their children should be subjected to. The prices have increased while the services they provide have decreased. I am so disappointed in this place and the post COVID choices that they have made. SEND YOUR CHILD ANYWHERE BUT HERE!

My son has excelled and blossomed since joining the Wood acres family. His reading, writing and number skills have taken off. I am impressed with the level of attention and care each child gets individually. This is truly a wonderful and unique school that we are lucky to be a part of.

My daughter has attended Wood Acres for two years now, and will be going into the 4-year-old program later this year. We love the school! The teachers genuinely care about the students and provide a lot of one-on-one attention. It's incredible to see how much my daughter has learned in two years. Her writing and letter/word recognition is incredible. She's also enjoyed Spanish, PE, music, art, and technology. The teachers always ask for constructive criticism. Her class is very diverse as well, and she has made so many great friends at such a young age. There is a lot of parent involvement both in the classroom and outside of the classroom as well. It has a true community feel. I'd recommend taking a tour and asking a lot of questions to see if the school is a good fit for your child. I have nothing but great things to say about our experience!

The Head of School and Principal at Wood Acres are the best. They clearly love children, love families, and really strive to make learning fun. They know my entire family by name, and are never too busy to talk to a parent or a child. It's clear that the positive atmosphere of the school comes straight from the top.

One of the things that I love about Wood Acres is the high standard that my children are held to in terms of how they treat their teachers and their peers. One of my children was a bit challenging in his younger years. I can't say enough about how instrumental the teachers at Wood Acres were in helping him learn how to treat his classmates with respect. What I appreciated most was that he was never treated like the "bad kid." He was just a kid that still had a bit to learn socially. We have overcome those issues now, and I know that we couldn't have done it without the patience and hard work of those teachers.

The teachers at Wood Acres are fantastic. They do a great job of helping my children learn and grow. Even more importantly, they genuinely care about my children. You can feel the love in the classrooms at Wood Acres. The administration and staff is awesome too. They all know my children by name. It just feels like home.

For us, the amount of homework is appropriate, and the content of the homework is targeted and effective. I never feel like it's busywork. They certainly do challenge my children, but that's what I expect. Some things that initially seemed like a big challenge, like book reports in first grade, ended up having the most dramatic impact on my child's ability to read, write, and present information.

We love Wood Acres so much. We have two children there, both of whom started in their early school program. I've been thrilled with the well rounded education that our children have received. I love that they have science lab, Spanish class, art, music, technology ,and P.E. even for the little kids! The class sizes are small, which allows the teachers to give your child extra help if he needs it or give him advanced work if he's ready for it. Now that my oldest is in the grammar school I've been amazed at his progress not only in math and reading/writing, but also his critical thinking skills. They're teaching him how to think and problem solve, which is something many school don't have time to do. What I love most about Wood Acres is the faculty and staff. They're like family to us. They truly love my children and it shows.

Some teachers are great;the Spanish teacher is wonderful. But they have a lot of teacher turnover. My kindergartener had two teachers in one year! They kept quitting! They seem to have a problem holding onto talented, positive,progressive teachers, and are left with the dredges. Public School teachers get paid more than teachers at this school. Where do you think the real talent goes?

This school starts homework in Pre-K. By 1st grade, the kids are expected to do about an hour of homework every night. This is way too much. This school focuses a lot on handwriting, but not reading. This school is lagging behind the times.

This school tolerates bullying by teachers and students. If you aren'the a favorite, then watch out. When the bullying issue was brought to the Administration, they ignored it. That is dishonest, disrespectful and lacks integrity.

My smart, well mannered and kindhearted child started hating school because they were bullied by a teacher at Wood Acres. Administration did not care. Playing favorites seems to be common at Woodles Acres. WA, lacks a decent physical education program, it's pretty bad, no sports, no real PE and they use taking away recess as a form of punishment. They claim to be "academically advanced", but often they hold children back. Kids that should be in 3rd grade, still in 1st grade! That is NOT advanced. Since when are 8 year olds in 1St grade considered advanced? The Public School my child attends now, is so much better in quality in so many ways and the class size is actually smaller than at Wood Acres. I regret not making the move sooner.This school lacks in both racial and socio-economic diversity, in it's student body and it's teaching staff and administration. They start testing students in kindergarten,despite all the current recommendations that this is NOT beneficial to young children. Testing in Public School starts in 3rd grade.The school does have a good Spanish program and teacher,but that is all this school has going for it. It lacks in so many other ways. Gossipy teachers and snobbish parents, at this school. Not a good fit for our down to earth, environmentally and socially conscious, well educated progressive liberal family. This school would be a good fit for those that don't want a diverse student/teacher population and leans toward very conservative old fashioned methods of teaching

My child is learning Spanish at a young age-I love that! The campus is beautiful and conducive to learning especially with the outdoor activities. The teachers are great!Overall, I am pleased with this school. However, as has been mentioned in other reviews, the administration staff could use improvement. There is a huge lack of communication to parents.

We just finished the 8th grade after being there since Pre-K and cannot say enough GREAT THINGS about it! Wood Acres is an International Spanish Academy which allows your child to converse with ease IN SPAIN during their 8th grade trip there. Their Spanish program there is second to none. My child will leave 8th grade ready for Spanish III in high school as a freshman! I read in another post about not being hands on...can you then explain how there has never ever been a science textbook??? It is 100% hands on! The teaching is FULL of imagination! Spanish Role plays, power point presentations put on by students, outdoor science fair, Greek/Roman day, the list goes on and on. Community service you ask? Girls clothing drive, Must food drives, MLK work day, and more. Might I add, ALL of these functions are put into action by the kids. They do the planning and advertising, they work the drives/functions and clean up after while learning organization and leadership skills. Parents are welcomed AND encouraged to be at the school. We are heartbroken it was time to leave as we will never find another Mrs. Thigpen, I am afraid. My child left WA happy, healthy, loved and very well educated.

Our child started at Wood Acres in PreK and is a raising third grader. Wood Acres has set the course for my daughters entire education by making learning fun. The teachers have high and reasonable expectations and care about teaching an accelerated curriculum as opposed to just learning for the test. The student ratios are low compared to other schools that have 25 plus students per classroom allowing more one on one availability. The administration encourages parent involvement has an open door policy and strives to instill the natural love of learning.

Wood Acres is a fantastic school and it is NOT dying! In fact, it is growing by leaps and bounds. Not only is my daughter thrilled to go to school every morning, but her teachers are thrilled to teach her every day! As for parent involvement, I have been a room parent, a mystery reader, helped with the Science Carnival, helped out with Constitution Day, helped out with Family Picnics, helped out with Field Day and I have helped out in the classroom many times! We have been at Wood Acres for over 3 years now and it is like a second home to our family. We are extremely happy, our daughter is learning so much every day and we are here to stay!

Wood Acres has the potential to be a fantastic school - the campus is beautiful, the Spanish program is great, the classrooms are calm and well kept and the class sizes are small... it falls very short of meeting it's potential. The leadership is weak, the school lacks direction and has no connection to the community. The teaching staff are disconnected between grades and within grades, operating as individuals and not a cohesive team. The curriculum and teaching is unimaginative and lacks creativity - desk bound and workbook based. If you are looking for hand-on experiential learning, this is not the school. They are unwilling to work with different learning styles and do not encourage parental involvement. The playground is frequently closed if it is a little too wet, and recess is indoors if it's a little too cold. There are inconsistencies on which classes in a grade make use of the science lab or library. The level of homework, especially for the younger grades, is extreme and, for the most part, adds little value to the day-to-day curriculum. Wood Acres has great potential but in reality offers little more than a good public school, other than campus and class size.

My children have been at Wood Acres since Kindergarten and we have been at the school for 6 years. This is our last year. The teachers are wonderful. We just cannot continue to send our children to and hand over our money to a dying school. Over the last few years the administration has become non-responsive and relies on the teachers to do everything with no support, which has made the turnover quite high in the last few years (teachers even leave in the middle of the year). The teachers never complain about the lack of support but when any issues come up, the leadership just tells you what you want to hear and then never follows through. It is really disappointing. The school had such a great reputation and shows well, but the leadership just seems to hold disdain for the parents and really doesn't want them on campus unless it is to pay or drop off/pick up the kids. We were hoping for a more family-like school and each year that never materialized. The Spanish program is nice, and those teachers are really great but even that is not enough to keep us. So sad.

Absolutely beautiful campus! What I love about Wood Acres is how it feels like you're part of a family. The teachers, staff, kids and parents all seem happy to be there and love to learn! Class sizes are small, typically under 14 per class. I highly recommend coming to the Woods!

I have two children who have attended WA. One is a graduate of the middle school program. I think many of the reviews for the upper school have been unfair. The upper school is essentially a new school and it has had its growing pains. However, the school excels academically. My child was extremely well prepared for the high school magnet program as was rest of the class. I have found that there is always a lot of complaining to the wrong people. The dean of students is extremely involved and more than happy to hear any concerns a parent has about their child or the program as a whole. She will work with you to best serve your child. You may not always like all of the answers or policies, but no one is 100% elated, all the time anywhere... not in public school or if you are paying $20,000/year. This may not be the right school for your child, but I firmly believe it has nothing to do with the intent, care and concern the teachers and staff have for the children, from early school through middle school.

This school has gone down over the years and it's sad because it has a potentially lovely campus. From the staff to the curriculum activities to the grounds, it's as if someone is trying to save money and it shows and it's a private school!! Even the summer camps have gone to straight babysitting with some nominal acitivies. We had a just average preK experience that didn't make it appealing for me to want to return. The parent involvement is next to nil because the administration doesn't encourage it!! Maybe the parents like the lower student to teacher ratios, but there needs to be more substance behind just that. No thanks, but keep trying Wood Acres if you want to retain or even increase your enrollment. There are too many private let alone outstanding public options these days in East Cobb and North Fulton.
