I graduated from here in 2025 and I wouldn't choose any other High School in Bibb County to attend. During my time there Bernard Young was the principal and he changed the school from a "dropout factory" to a family. Teachers: There are some great teachers who used unconventional ways of teaching like storytelling, verbal exams, creating playlists, and even game tournaments during exam season for review to really connect with the students. Now let me be real, there are SOME teachers there who abuse their authority by talking to the kids crazy and lazy ones who don't really "teach", but they are outnumbered by teachers who go above and beyond. The counselors and principal Young were truly a blessing. Mr. Jefferson in particular has taken so many students under his wing they kinda see him as a dad. He always buys food for the hungry, allows seniors to chill in his office (if they have free periods), he spend his OWN MONEY to pay for our prom, he's payed from prom tickets, he gives rides, just a blessing to so many. Dr. Young was like a magnet, connecting students, parents, and community. He literally couldn't use his office to work because students would go their for advice, emotional regulation, opportunities, etc. He also will spend his own money to make sure his students are taken care of. Beyond that he's sp creative in the way that he celebrates his teachers and students. Dr. Young actually took me on my very first college visit in Atlanta when my parents couldn't. His wife took me to my first ever concert. There are also some really great programs students can participate in that will get the ahead at the school. Anything band and sports will give them immediate family. Programs like ROTC, SkillsUSA, Mock Trial, The Law Academy, Gaming Club, FBLA, DUAL ENROLLMENT!!!, and Hutchins College and Career Academy are great for college, trade, and military prep after they graduate. Now for the not so good, Southwest is 100% what you make it. I was an extremely active student so I got the best parts of the SW experience. A child who is a quiet introvert or has some behavior problems probably wont say the same things I am. It's also kinda dirty ngl... But I loved the staff, the students, the programs they provide, and the environment. Southwest felt more like a family where we learned, almost every kid has a school auntie, uncle, dad, or mom there.

This school really is disgusting from how it is on the inside they're were dead roaches a few times I walked by

This school is amazing a I remember when they did a Christmas talent show it was amazing all the students where sportive to the students it's just the school sprit

went to this school back in the 70's 9th and 10th before moving to florida and back then it was a good school..Don't know about now..
