My 2 oldest kids went to school here. This school scores wonky on scales like this because it's only PK, K and 1st grade in this building before they go over to RHES for 2nd and 3rd grade, and finally 4th and 5th at Carver. These schools are part of the tri-schools here in Richmond Hill. This was a big change for me as a parent however, we've grown to like the benefits of having these age groups together in one building vs PK-5th all together.

Our experience here is exceptional. We were blessed with wonderful and caring teachers. I appreciate that the school tends to lean heavy on creativity vs standardized methods of learning and teaching. We didn't receive homework outside of a couple of cute little projects like disguise your turkey and there were a multiple times through the year I was able to volunteer or join my children during a celebration or party. We are excited for our youngest to have his turn in a couple of years.

It’s been my experience that the teachers and staff care about their students. Our teacher communicates with us regularly. Daily feedback is given on how well the day went. More in depth information is shared quarterly with a phone call and a report. We’re very satisfied with the work the school is doing.

While the classroom teachers here have been amazing the office staff and administrators are not does not feel welcoming whatsoever to parents involvement is some aspects it almost feels like I’m bring my children to prison I can not wait until we can move away from this awful place

My daughter was in 1st grade here. We really enjoyed the teachers and staff. There were a lot of opportunities to volunteer at the school and when you walked down the halls you could tell the teachers put a lot into the learning atmosphere of their classrooms. Mrs. New was our teacher and we loved her. She had great learning stations as well as creative work activities. The number of students per teacher seemed a bit much and recess seemed sort of a free for all. All communication with front office staff was pleasant and friendly.

They go above and beyond to teach each child at his or her level, and there is tons of support for children who may need it.

The teachers are loving, patient, and disciplined. The children learn how to behave appropriately, and the teachers go out of their way to call out students who are behaving the right way and they get a special award.

My oldest is only in kindergarten, but he has only brought home a few items throughout the year to work on at home. These are when he needs a little extra one-on-one time with concepts.

The teachers and staff are AMAZING. They work hard at making sure each child is taught on his or her level. They use positive re-enforcement to encourage good behavior, and each child is truly loved on while they are at school. The principal is an excellent leader who allows her teachers the freedom to teach their own way, which leads to outstanding results. I cannot say enough good things about this school. I'm lucky that both my boys get to attend there.

RHPS implements the PBIS program (Positive Behavioral Interventions & Supports) both in and out of the classroom. Children are recognized for their compassion, for their integrity and respecting others. I've seen a positive change in my sons behavior since this program was started.

In the last 2 years there has been a change in administration at Richmond Hill Primary School and it has benefited everyone tremendously. The new front office secretary is one of the sweetest ladies I have ever met. She is always courteous, polite and has a smile on her face. There is a new principal and she is a godsend! She is very attentive to the children, the teachers and staff and goes above and beyond to make Richmond Hill Primary the best school it can be. When our oldest son was at this school several years ago we were very unhappy with the front office staff, the principal, and the overall "parents are not welcomed here" attitude. But I can honestly say that things are now drastically different in the best of ways. I feel welcomed at the school. My emails and phone calls never go unanswered, not by the principal, teachers or nurse. I always know what events are taking place in the classroom and in the school. Communication has improved 1000% in various ways. Years prior I had absolutely no idea what was taking place in my sons little world and that worried me to death. This year is so very different and I think a great deal of credit goes to the new principal.

I can't praise the teachers here enough. They really do not get enough credit for all they do. If you are ever fortunate enough to walk the halls during school hours you will be amazed at how well they manage our little ones while keeping an upbeat attitude and making our children smile. Most importantly, our kids are happy while they're learning. Nothing about the classroom setting here feels oppressive or forced and it shows in the children. I see nothing but happy, smiling faces when I visit the school and that is the best feeling as a parent.

If you are at all hesitant to send your children here I urge you to speak with any of the parents who currently have children in this school. Myself and many, many others have nothing but praise for all they do at RHPS.

I agree to the latest parent post. It is disappointing that the kids cannot give out invites that well in fact, the only friends our kids have are at school! and they aren't allowed to give birthday invitations. I am not sure how to bring this up. I have asked parents and they don't know how to address this issue. 4 stars for Teachers, Assistants Teachers only. The office needs to re visit public relations training. And if the principal reads this, please post why the behavior of office staff is overflowing with negative reviews.

For academics and teaching staff, I give RHPS 5 stars. What others have said about an unfriendly office atmosphere is correct. It seems like its a bother for them if parents come in. -If your child has a birthday during the school year, the children are not allowed to hand out invites and the teachers aren't either. I don't care what their reasons are, an invitation is just that, if the recipient or parent does not want their phone # out there then they don't have to call or respond to the invitation, there is not breach of confidential information by quietly putting a party invitation into a child's folder to take home. -Visiting (dropping in on) your child's class is not allowed, UNLESS you watch a volunteering video, then you can "pop in" and see how things are going. I was told there are just too many parents that would visit and it would interrupt the class. But don't worry about them doing a background check to become a volunteer either, cause they don't bother with them. -Starting late can make it difficult to get to know the teacher and their routines and ways of communicating with parents. Finding a way to include parents would help them feel more like partners.

Our children were final able to get into the Bryan County School system thanks to the principal at Richmond Hill Elementary. We have a contact on a house and was closing in a month. I can say my daughter loves RHPS now that she is here and here teacher is great.

RHPS has been extremely disappointing to our family. Primarily the leadership is poor and the administration is very rude. It is an unpleasant place to visit, because the principal sets a negative attitude toward parents and isn't a good leader. The students test well because the teachers are told to teach only "to the test", which makes for a great deal of unhappy and unfulfilled teachers. Morale is very low at the school and it negatively affects the students and the parents. I am looking forward to moving out of this school.

This is an excellent school who is very supportive of military families. My son loved going here! The administration and teachers are very supportive and understanding of children with special needs (ADHD). I was very sad when my son had to move up to the elementary school! We loved it there!

We moved to the Savannah Metro Area in August 2012, and we chose to move RH, because of the reputation of the school system as recommended by Gulfstream colleagues. We now have a son in PK and though we were apprehensive about throwing him into full-day PK, he has really enjoyed it. At 22 students, the class does feel a little crowded, even with a teaching assistant. That being said, teachers appear to exercise a good deal of control in the classroom. That same level of control, when applied to lunchtime, does seem a little oppressive. Students are admonished to stay seated and to remain quiet, and I'm just not certain how children are supposed to work off some of their excess energy. I would not advocate allowing them to run amuck in the cafeteria, but I would feel better if they were allowed to speak at a volume greater than a whisper. At the Pre-K Center, I find it interesting that there is not the same level of entry area security present in the K-1 and RH Elementary School buildings.

I must say, the office workers at this school are difficult, to say the least. They are rude, not willing to help and seem to not know the answers to any questions asked!

My son has Aspergers Syndrom and ADHD which made starting school a very scary experience. The staff and administration went above and beyond to make sure my son was well taken care of and we, as parents, were well informed. He has been there for 2 years now and is making great grades in a mainstream class.

My son has done very well at RHPS. The teachers really seem to care about the students and the curriculum seems well rounded. The problem I have with the school is the office secretaries. They are very rude and condescending to parents so much so that I dread having to deal with them. I am not alone with my assessment of the office workers. I have spoken to at least six other parents who have said the same thing. The office personnel need a major attitude adjustment.

cont...from below...I spoke to the Assistant Principal who was very kind yet I have decided to move and change schools. I relocated to Richmond Hill and remained here for 5 years because of the seemingly wonderful school system. Yet this experience the past few months has put a very very bad influence on my son's self esteem. I am moving and he will not remain in this school next quarter. I'm not sure the school is equipped to handle African-American boys. Out of 5 of the children in his "Busy Bulldogs" group for bully prevention...only 1 is not African-American. The school has few African American students to begin with and no African American Teachers. I question the 80% correlation of students being labeled bully being African- American to the percentage of black students at the school about 20%. Very disheartening

One wonderful thing about the school is that parents are encouraged to volunteer and you never have to worry about anyone unauthorized taking your children from the school. The front office staff is very secure about letting even the parent of the child beyond the front counter. There is no walking your child to class or going to the classroom of your child. If your child left something at home- you can bring it - just don't expect to get past the front lines. There is no direct parental involvement in the classroom unless solicited by the teacher. Do not expect to just pop up on your child on your break or monitor the class without a petition. Most volunteer opportunities will be in classrooms other than your child's.
