TERRIBLE. DO NOT GO HERE. I was a student here who pursued homeschool in order to preserve my mental health, or, well, whatever was left of it. It is immensely overcrowded. I was bullied a massive amount and the bathrooms are horrible. My teacher did absolutely nothing about the mass bullying aimed at me. It was common knowledge I was bullied a ton, and most of the bullying was done by the popular group. I doubt the admins care, as when I was on the principal advisory committee (PAC) we discussed lockers, lunch times, but nothing about mental health or bullying. I wasn't a very active member due to me trying to not burst out all my complaints, but I certainly observed the system. They are a ""STEM"" school. What that means is that everything is overcomplicated now and its an excuse to get more state funding. There are two bathrooms per hall, with each one having 4 urinals and 3 stalls. They use securelypass, which means if you can't hold it for like two hours of waiting for an opening, you're out of luck. My classes were 29 to 32 kids each and the hallways are like those stock photos of massive crowds climbing on top of each other. There is no recess or break time or whatever. Trash school, stay a solid mile away for your sanity.

This is a comment on RH athletics. Richmond Hill did itslef a disservice in only building one middle school. The middle school student body is the largest - by far - south of Atlanta. The student is around 2,500. The other middle schools in the area average around 800 students. Because of this, RHMS dominates every middle school in all sports. This is a bad thing, however, as it leads to lazy coaching and what I call "golden boy" syndrome, where the kids think they are special because the middle school teams are so dominant. They are only dominant, though, becuase they are three times the size of every school they play.

This manifests itself in a couple of ways at the HS level - 1. When our athletes get to HS, they are underdeveloped, but think they are great (again, lazy MS coaching and golden boy syndrome) and 2. Many of our best athletes go to the private schools in Savannah in search of better coaching.

RHHS sports are awful. We are good at cheerleading, lacrosse and cross country - sports no one really cares about. We are terrible at baseball, basketball, and football, and our wrestling program is mediocre, at best.

RH needs two middle schools. We will develop our athletes much better that way, and maybe hang on to more of them.

I am a current student here at RHMS and the truth about the school is its actually horrifically bad. To start there is bullying everywhere. Online. In school. All the time. And its only targeted at kids which disabilities, mental health issues, or someone who doesnt fit the social norm. I have seen a kid get called a slur and get shoved to the ground and beat just because of his skin color. But the minute you take it to the principal and admin,they act like youre crazy and dont listen. The admin will only listen if a popular kid goes to the with the problem. But heres the thing,most of these popular kids are the bullies. The teachers dont really teach and just give us notes and expect us to be fine. The counselors will tell your parents and admin anything you tell them. Weather it be mental health or family issues or even just school, they tell the admin. I have also overheard the counselors who promise confidentiality talk to other teachers about what you say to them. They gossip about everything you say to them. I have seen teachers laugh about students and talk about them and bully them but the minute you try and tell someone, no the teachers and counselors are amazing. Your just a liar. Thats all we ever hear. The school also fails to provide any support over mental health. I have seen a kid get absolutely destroyed and harassed because the kid was trans. The school did nothing to stop it and he had ti be taken out of school. They are also very lenient with their punishments even when they need to be. When a kid brought a weapon to school he got silent lunch. When a kid had punched a guy after he was making sexual remarks about them and they repeatedly told the admin about it, they got a 10 day OSS and multiple days of ISS. Like what. Basically RHMS is the worst school because if the bullying,the inequality, the lack of support and attention from admin,and the students are toxic. Please do not send your child to RHMS.

I am formally objecting to the locker room policy that forces students to change clothes in front of others while banning the use of bathroom stalls or any private space. This policy is invasive, humiliating, and disregards basic student privacy and emotional safety, especially for students with anxiety, trauma, body image concerns, or gender-related issues, which is further worsened by the lack of licensed mental health support at the school. Schools are responsible for protecting student dignity, and denying all privacy options is unacceptable. This policy must be reconsidered immediately to allow private changing accommodations.

Having a child with special needs I am beyond pleased with the school and help we receive. He can be extremely difficult and defiant and they are so understanding and knowledgeable about his issues and how to work with him. They are so helpful to work with his schedule, smaller classes, and general studies.

All of my kids have come to this school and every single one of my kids had the same exact chief complaints......the teachers are mean, they talk to kids like they are stupid and like to publicly embarrass them. Also the bullying is out of control and never addressed by teaching staff. I HATE this school with a passion. Richmond Hill High is AMAZING and Richmond Hill Elementary is AMAZING.......the only school my kids have EVER complained about is Richmond Hill Middle School. Something needs to be done.

this school is horrible i have wanted to leave so many times even go homeschooled, the mental support here is horrible the counslers even if you ask them not to tell yout parents they will get admin to and start family issues they dont even know about, the bullying here is HORRIBLE i mean so bad i won homcoming and after that people made so many rumors about me i had 2 panic attacks inschool and it took admin like a hour to get me and at that point i didnt wanna talk about it especially because THEY TELL THE TEaCHERS EVERYTHING the teachrs are rude and disrespectful to students ive heard teachers talk about me which gave me a horrible reputation, OH AND the athletics are bad only because of the coached they pick favorites and dont give other people oppritunites exept for one coach lyons he sees students for them not what he hears truly one of the best people working here. anyways the teachers sit o their phones make us write notes im not learing anything, if yout thinking of sending you kid here i would not at all and plase tell this school to get a grip and help kids mentally and stop bullying

This school aims for education and trying to get students to connect with others and show creativity. They also try their best to insure a child does their best academically, by using different teaching strategies. However; There is a immense amount of bullying in this school and most of the staff doesn't care. I've been made fun of multiple times in a classroom with a teacher and they did nothing about it. There is not one day there isn't a fight happening, or a nasty rumor being spread. Not to mention, the dress code is unfair. Whilst they let student wear really short shorts and crop tops they don't let students wear pajama pants. Most of the kids there are ableist and homophobic and to some degree racist. Most teachers quit because this school is so bad. The students can't take authority at all and make mean remarks towards students and teachers. On top of all that, there's lots of kids who do drugs at this school, to the point where there's a whole lotta drug searches. If you know what's best for your child, don't send them here.

This school, not only induces bullying, but also makes your child self-conscious, if your child has a disability and other kids at the school notice, they will severely make fun of you, a kid in my son's class had been bullied multiple times and the teacher didn't do anything but tell them to leave him alone, and spoiler they didn't, another time a child was screaming in the hallway due to a breakdown of some sort, and students in every class that my son went into were laughing about it, saying mean comments and even mimicking it.
I recommend going somewhere else, your child deserves better, I can only imagine how the parents act if these are their kids behavior.

As a military family, we have lived in many locations. This school has by far been the worst. There is no support for new incoming students as they transition from other locations. The level of bullying is outrageous. The IEP and 504 support is near null and void. If you do have a student needing that support make sure you stay on top of it to ensure services are being met. Because the bully is so intense and there is no support from counselors or staff, you will also need to ensure you take additional steps to ensure your child is being treated fairly. ( I say, as a parent, this is your job but I think most parents expect a level of protection while their kids are at school) Unfortunately, this school has an issue with not following through with repercussions, they also are not transparent about hazing that occurs.

Now, I will address academics. If your student succeeds in school naturally, the academics are good. If you have a student needing additional support, please do not expect that to come from the school. Not to say that teachers do not try, there just simply aren't enough staff to provide support or to provide an environment that leads to support.

This school is terrible, especially with steam/ stem guidelines. If you do join one of those it takes 2 of your connections and with band that leaves you with 1 connection because P.E takes another connection so you are only allowed 1 connection. So since you only have one connection you're going to want to make sure its a good one. This year I didn't even get ANY of the connections I asked for this year and went into THEATRE ARTS. I do not like theatre.

As a current student of this school i really like it. All of the classes I have been in have been fun and engaging . I mean I went kayaking for my connections that was fun. There is one teacher I don't really like too much but I won't name them. Granted we are only on week 11 or 12 of the 36, but so far it's been awesome.

Lacks Equity, balanced with Excellence, students in previous schools are not ready for what RHMS throws at them from the start of 6th Grade, and many people with learning disabilities such as ADHD find it hard to adapt, it also lacks a "fun" or entertaining environment, students are also kept inside the majority of the day.

It is unfair how that we usually get an amazing grade, in daily grades, general performance in the classroom normally, a well-respected and respectful student, but will be treated how the system wants us to be treated, not like humans.

Want to know about Richmond Hill Middle School? Okay, well in my opinion it is a great school. I have not expirianced bullying myself but I have seen it happen. Admins dont always approach it the right way but they definitely try to fix the problem. Not many fights happen, but yet when they do its typically not just a few punches people try to get in on it. Say friends get in on it and every thing just goes crazy. I would say teachers should stop it but they try and its just not enough you could have 5-6 decently strong kids get into a fight with 4 teachers each pod and it can be hard to hold them back. Homework is amazing its easy to get done even with me playing 2 sports. Mostly for my pod its just a handful of IXLs then its over with for the week. I have met friends at RHMS and now Im not as much of an introvert as I was in elementary and middle school has brought my character out. Overall I would definitely recommend this school to most kids. Although I wouldnt recommend this school to people who are really on the softer side.

Homework: Depending on which classes the student takes can effect the amount of homework. Some classes have a lower amount of homework and others have a higher amount. Some teachers will assign homework on a daily/weekly basis, while others are against it. Homework is usually just giving enrichment to the unit taught and can be beneficial to the student.

Teachers: You really can't be able to give teachers a rating, as humans are not like one another. At RHMS there are teachers who look very tiredsome each day, and don't put a lot of commitment into their job. There are few teachers at RHMS who care about the well-being of their students. Of this small amount of outstanding teachers they really do create a safe envorment in their classroom, and sometimes it doesn't feel like a boring school with these phenomenal teachers.

Learning Differences: Students with disabllities are isolated from other students. At RHMS they have special programs for 'SPED' students and are usually separated from other students instead of having a socially normal interaction. At RHMS there are programs for 'gifted' students and they are also isolated, only being able to interact with students in the same program as them.

Bullying: There is bullying at every school. At RHMS there is an on-campus officer for any unwanted people. Fights rarely occur at RHMS, but there has been some. Most of the bullying at RHMS are over status and popularity.

Programs: There is a wide range of clubs and sports teams at RHMS. The school also has many academic programs which is offered to the students attending the school. The RHMS sports teams are mainly coached by current teachers/staff members. Many of the students who are part of the sports program definitely enjoy it, and would suggest it to anyone interested in the sport.

This school truly builds a child's ability to succeed in all academic areas by not only giving a challenging curriculum but also providing the means of tutoring those who struggle. The staff are well trained and have a passion for their profession. As for bullying, the administration handle these issues in a professional manner and ensure the safety of the students.

Meh. The only problem I really have are "mask breaks". I don't think that face-to-face students should have mask breaks. If people in Asian countries can wear masks for the whole day on a regular basis, students and teachers can too. Most of the teachers can barely put their masks over their noses.
And besides that, some of the teachers here pick favourites. Not a surprise here in Richmond Hill.

Oh no. The staff can't respect people's pronouns (a teacher would not take nonbinary pronouns, as they were "plural") and the kids can barely respect each other either. Kids can be racist too. Nothing is being done about this.

As a current student, we do have privileges' that other's don't. I do think that community isn't that great though. People who don't see any thing wrong with some of the discrimination within the community are extremely privileged not to have a problem here or even at the MES (the elementary school) They do seem to be overly patriotic and make you stand or put your hand over your heart for the pledge; and as a veteran's daughter, I think I should have a choice on whether or not to stand for a country that takes away people's rights.

My children have always been a member of the Richmond Hill school system and I am yet to see a reason to draw them out of it. Despite what these seemingly scathing reviews may tell, this school is truely a great place.

The kids and the staff are bullies. Unfortunately the majority of he students have military parents and it clearly shows in their behavior. Although this might almost be expected from middle school kids, what is appalling is that the staff also pick on the kids. My child has been called names by one of the teachers and I had to request a meeting with the principal. He told me all great things to my face, but once our meeting was over, nothing was done to corrext the issue.

I wish I could give three ratings for this school--one for the academics (5 stars), though lots of testing; a second for the student environment (2 stars), because of the inappropriate language, sexual commentary, and just gross stuff my kids come home asking about (I don't know what some of these middle school kids are exposed to, to gain this "information"; and third, the teachers (4 stars)--both my kids have enjoyed all their teachers, who seem caring and motivated. I would also say other parents are right on regarding the district's focus on sports, as well as the occasional difficulty in communication--I, too, have had to make multiple attempts via email. And new parents should know that RHMS does support "tracking" for lack of a better word. There is the regular level, enrichment level, advanced level, and a gifted level. In our several years here, we have experienced three of these levels, and I want to make clear that the regular level here is MORE demanding and rigorous than our three previous schools.

The teachers are evaluated on their students' state test scores, so they want them to learn and test well. My kids have learned a lot attending RHMS. i am happy with their academic achievement. Not much creativity, though, in the classroom.

Both my kids have homework every night--between 45-90 minutes. And because kids don't get home until after 4pm, if your kids have sports or dance, etc, that leaves zero down time...

I find the schools website to be hard to find information needed. The social side of the school is horrible. Bullying and adult conversation is absurd to say the least. The kids run wild without the proper supervision. When my child was hit by another student while waiting in the car rider line the school did nothing about it. This was not the 1st time this happened. Overall very unhappy with this school.

The teachers/staff are great but the students appear to run wild. My child comes home telling me about the kids using vulgar language, constantly talking about sex, targeting and bullying. Bryan county BOA needs to step in and take control of this mess. We moved to Richmond Hill because of the schools but I'm beginning to regret it.

Just came into the school the last part of the year due to a military move. I am pleased with the education itself and the teachers have been wonderful. However, the social aspect isn't so great. There seems to be a lot of student bullying, cursing and inappropriate adult humor for this age from the stories I am hearing. Can't tell you how many times I've had to explain something that I never thought I would have to for a middle schooler. I know times are changing but wow. Also a very athletics oriented school. After a few months here, still undecided on whether this is the "best school" in the area as I heard a lot when looking into it. But, love Richmond Hill itself - a great community.

WONDERFUL, I've gone there for 2 years and i have 2 brothers that go there, and the atmosphere is wonderful, there are so many nice people and the teachers may seem mean but they get nicer as the year goes on. RHMS has so many clubs and athletics that you will never have a dull moment in the week! It doesn't have the best food but you can always get a lunch! anyways i love the school and I'd send my kids there!

My child has never attended a school that does not include the whole student body in its awards ceremony. Even though this school is pretty on the outside, it lacks effort in promoting equality. If your child has a Educational Service Plan (ESP) this might not be the right school for he/she. RHMS counselor's have the worst attitude when it comes to understanding your child needs and does not listen or work well with parents when developing the best plan for your child. My child was taking honors classes at the previous school, but this school refused to realized it because she has a ESP. Most states have become a part of the Interstate Compact which supports military children transition into their new school. This school does the oppose it. The school counselor called my child previous school and the counselor told her my child earned and was more than capable of continue taking her honor classes. The counselor disregarded the comments and did what she felt was best. I don't know if race plays a role in her attitude, but I felt my child had attended a school that was twenty years behind times. Plant a good seed and it will produce good fruit.

I agree with most of the comment. They a;; tell the parents "Look at the website" We too are military family and our kids have tired few schools and this by far is the most unfriendly, unsupportive, staff we have ever come accross with. The school looks like a Prison if you know what I mean. Never can speak with the teachers and the Website they are talking about...only one out of the 5 teachers my kid has ever, ever, ever email back!

Yes, there are some very poor teachers in every school and there should be more done to find more suitable replacements. That being said, our child's teacher has a website that is a wealth of information. Not all teachers update or maintain their websites, but many of the sites are very helpful. I have noticed that almost all of the negative reviews are written by people new to the district. It is unfortunate that their first experience was unfavorable, but have faith-there are many great teachers ahead and it really is a fantastic school system, warts and all. Also keep in mind that once your kids get to the middle grades and beyond, every teacher has on average about 110 students every day. That's a lot of juggling to meet everyone's individual needs.

Wow, I was thinking maybe it was my daughter or my wife and I. We too "thought" this was the place to be. After reading the comments everyone hit the nail (or nails) on the head. We tried by written note, by email, and by phone to get a parent teacher conference, to NO success. We were told "everything is on my website." Do I blame the teachers? No, except if it's a specific one (everyone knows who I'm talking about) in the elementary school (run if your child gets her). I have a suspicion that they don't have too much leeway as to how to teach! State this state that. Bullies??? If it's not the oversized juvenile deliquints, it's the over indulged brats! They are in desperate need of discipline in that school! I don't know where the good school went or who runs this (Harry Potter Looking) school, but a little less money into the brick and more into the teacher child ratio! Throw the deliquents into a room with a bad teacher and a popsickle! No-I do not have a perfect child with straight A's. my child is a B mostly. But, here there is no room to brighten her horizon. It's a shame, if the economy would get better, I'd sell and move also.

Richmond Hill Middle School They get a 1 because that is the lowest available score. We heard that Bryan County School District was the best in this area. The reality is very different. Our child has been in Gifted. He has exceeded all national standardized testing scores including the SAT he took at 12. He is a member of Duke University TIP. We have had nothing but problems since he entered RHMS. They use Power School which I feel sets children up for failure. If your child is absent when a test or assignment is due they get a 0. They also do online assessments. Most of the the assessments has not been taught to the student. They use these assessment scores as 3 daily grades and 1 test grade. How can you give a child a permanent grade on info they have not been taught? The staff are rude not only to students but parents as well. We are a military family and our child has been in over 10 schools and I have never seen children treated in such a degrading manner. It is ABSOLUTELY DISGUSTING. If the high school is anything like the middle school our family will be moving without question or hesitation for no other reason than to leave this school district. BEWARE!!!!!!!!!!

We are new to the area due to my husband being transferred to Ft Stewart. We made sure we lived in the RH area because at the time the school was rated a 9 since I see it has fallen. I feel that certain teachers are great however there is one that constantly yells in the classroom. I have brought this to the attention of the principle which seems to ignore all complaints and makes constant excuses for these teachers. My child has always been an honor student but feels that none of the teachers even know she exists I have emailed a couple of the teachers that we have concerns with and they just don't even email or call. This school does not want ANY parent involvement unless maybe you are from here. I feel there is no support for military families ESP when it is the military that are moving here. I am so disappointed in this school and find myself apologizes to my child for putting her in a "so called great school". I have tried meeting w the principle to no avail he says he will do something BUT it never happens. I hope with a new superintendent this school can get back on track as being a top rated school. I only wish we had the money for private school

We were told this was the best schools system in the area. Some eachers are not teaching. My child is in 7th grade, and tells me a few just say to read this or that, test them, with no lecturing, extra info. Contrary to past posts by others, we feel there is NO enforcement of the dress code, and we were hoping for that. Students here openly curse, and no punishment is given by teachers. I think the students are running the school, and some teachers have given up. Too many students per teacher, on the buses, that is still the case. From helping out and having to stop by on occasion, parents are forced to go by the rules, but not teacher and students. This school needs an anit-bullying program. There are some very snobby students, too, as this is sort of an elite area in which to live. I guess these students are used to getting their way, and make fun of others and new students all the time.I know this is normal in growing up, but it often makes my child miserable. The last school we attended, in another state, was not like this at all. And it was rated 10 out of 10 and had an anti-bullying program.
