As people say in other reviews on how good this school is, honestly, is false. The bullying as affected me, as well as another students. Students will mock others and will get barely any consequence for their actions. Personally, on my first week there for 5th grade, I got slapped. The kid got only a 1 day suspension, which disappointed me. The learning is not so well too, with the class learning 3rd grade science standards in 5th grade. In plus, most students are failing all their classes due to bad behavior. Most of the students are not listening to teachers and make the learning environment unsafe with fighting physically and verbally. Usually, during field trips, Southwest Elementary is known for their bad behavior. Even when getting told multiple times to stop talking so the teacher can speak, students still don't listen. Bullying is rare but teasing is common, and can lead to arguments that cause ALOT of drama. Fights are talked about a lot in Southwest elementary, with fights sometimes happening too. Principals have to get involved when the teacher can't take it anymore. I've had multiple teachers yell at the class to stop talking but they just can't, so the teacher is left defeated and drained. I feel bad for these teachers. The bus experience is not so well too. With fights happening often on the bus. Sometimes students yell bad words and throw food around, which makes the bus driver to turn around back to the school. This happened around 3-5 times to me, and makes me rush since I have tutoring after-school. The Gifted program is pretty good, with projects that challenge students with their creativity. Overall, the school is not so good but I have made many friends, with some people more friendlier then from my old school, and with a lot of amazing teachers. But this school is not the best to go to if you want your child to have a good education.

Sadly, as a former student I do not think that leadership is effective. Bullying and fighting was a constant while I was there.

Most of the teachers at this school care about their kids. They teach the curriculum they are given effectively. However, I don't think the kids are pushed to their full potential at this school. You can always do better but the kids that do better don't get the opportunity to move forward. Their education is put on hold while waiting for the other kids to catch up. I've personally experienced this with my own child. I know my child's potential and I told them that she should take a placement test because she is bored. They didn't take me seriously until they find out I was pulling her out of school to teach her myself.

When my daughter first started atttending this school she with low test scores. The after school tutoring programs they offer have greatly improved her test scores as well as her overall performance in school. The teachers really care.
