We relocated to Georgia in December of last year, and the transition to this school exceeded my expectations. I was initially concerned about how my son would adjust, but he quickly felt at home and absolutely loves it here. The staff and environment made the move so much smoother for our family.

Carmel Elementary has been a fantastic school so far for our 1st grade daughter. We were off put by the average scores that the school was rated at prior to last year; however, any low scores are highly unfounded. We love Carmel and couldnt be happier. The school is beautiful, clean, and decorated with massive murals inside that I wish were on the walls of my elementary school when I grew up. It seems like almost monthly there are great activities (Movie nights, Art Classes, School Fairs and festivals with tons of games, etc) nearly every month. The carpool line is quick in the mornings, the busses are easy and reliable, the school has a permanent School officer to keep kids safe, and the teachers and principal truly care about the kids (its not just a job to them). This year, Carmel received a prestigious state award for being in the Top 5% of the Best Schools in Georgia. Keep doing what your doing Carmel, because weve got another Daughter whos 1.5yrs old now whos coming in the next couple years too. :)

Both of my kids went to Carmel, the youngest is currently in 5th grade. The teachers, administrators and the principle are awesome and genuinely care about the kids. I can easily reach out to their teachers and they are very quick to reply.
Kids are given plenty of support if needed Both of my kids had/have good experiences in there.

Carmel Elementary School is the best school that I have ever stepped foot into. The teachers are caring and truly work their butts off for the success of their students. The students are supported by faculty and admin from every direction. Carmel deserves 5 stars in every category!

This school was rated at a 7/10 before we moved to this new community. However, it seems it has now been rated 5/10 and I would wholly concur with that rating. This school is underperforming. It is below average. Meaningful communication between the administration and parents is non existent; even after multiple family members have reached out via email. Meaningful communication between my sons 3rd grade teacher is nonexistent. We barely see work class work come home. There no opportunity to review common mistakes when nothing comes home. The homework is inadequate. We have had to pay for private tutoring in order for our son to get the extra instruction he needs. All of the tutors say how bright he is, but I fear an otherwise bright student will fall behind if we keep him in this school. In fact, the tutoring facility had a conference with his teacher and experienced the same lack of depth in communication and educational know how that we are seeing. Their only comment was that the teacher was nice. They couldnt get much more than that even after attempting to lead the conversation. The applications, Canvas mainly, but also ParentSquare, that they use are inferior. The facilities are below average. I cannot wait until we move into our new home so that we can get my son out of this place. Cherokee County schools in general have been a disappointment. We were unable to get our child into the school that services the neighborhood our home is being built in because of some antiquated rules about zoning; even though our home is scheduled to be completed this month - well before the end of the school year. I have my suspicions that these rules have more to do with politics and income than serving the community. We are considering private school if this new school (Woodstock Elementary) doesnt do better than Carmel. This has been the absolute worst educational experience for any of us, including my 21 year old daughter.

I honestly don't even know where to begin so I will just give my overall experience. This year has been a total nightmare.Everything was good until 2nd grade. All of his teachers prior to 2nd grade were passionate, effective, caring and fair. This year it was the complete opposite. The teacher this year seemed uncaring, overwhelmed, and frustrated with her job. Some teachers are just not meant to work with students of a certain age group and that was the case this year. I am really hoping that things are better next year and that we get a teacher that displays similar characteristics as the first two. I would no recommend this school.

This is supposed to be a character based school but they have absolutely no way of making sure that behavior scores are across the board. It is up to each teacher's discretion. They have no way of making sure the the kids there are each being scored fairly.

I have had 3 kids attend this school. All were well prepared for middle school. Teachers are top notch and there is a lot of parental involvement.

My son has been at Carmel for 2 years now and he loves it. As long as he is thriving and happy, we will stick with Carmel.

I currently have 4 boys attending Carmel. I don't understand all of the positive reviews on this site. Our experience here has been much different.
School starts at 7:30, this is extremely hard. Your child has to get up at 6am to make it to school on time. Walk around the halls in the morning, you will see hundreds of exhausted kids. My boys report constantly that kids in their classes fall asleep in school.
The most shocking aspect of this school is how they want you to report your child absent. They don't want you to call the office and let them know where your child is. They want you to send a note the next day. What if my child was lost? Most days the attendance report emails don't come until well after 12, my kid could be missing for hours before anyone even knew.
If you share your concerns about any subject with the teachers the first thing you will hear is how many students they have to teach. Then you hear how they can't possibly be expected to pay attention to just your child. Finally they will say something like, "I'll look into it." For years the teachers punish the students by withholding recess when the class misbehaves. Not only is this unfair, it's ineffective. From day 1 to the last day of school my kids talk about how they had to miss recess because others were disruptive. It's not working. Address behavioral issues with the students one on one, please.
The school nurse threatens families with unenrollment if they lose your paperwork or your doctor is slow in updating them on physicals and shots. They also give vision and hearing tests to students who are wearing glasses or hearing aids even though they are clearly under a doctor's care. Then send threatening letters when they fail. (No glasses allowed for the vision tests)
Be prepared to spend a ton of money. You pay for school pictures before they are taken, they hold several fundraisers at once and their Fall Festival is $10-$15 per person in the same month they hold the book fair.
If you have an issue you want to talk to the principal's secretary. She is the only member of the office staff who knows what's going on and how best to help you. Definitely a bright spot.
We have made the decision to move next summer and put our kids in a different school because we just don't see this getting any better.

My child has attended Carmel for the past two years. As her parents, we have been very impressed and love this school! As a student, our child has been motivated to learn and loves her school, too. We are thankful and blessed to be part of such an awesome school community!

We LOVE Carmel! We have one child going into 4th grade and another going into Kindergarten next year. The teachers are enthusiastic and encouraging. We have not had a single negative experience with any of the teachers or administrators. There are plenty of fun, educational activities to keep the children interested and rewards given to motivate them. Visit the school any day of the week and see how involved parents are and how welcomed they are by the staff. The students of Carmel are happy and thriving. We couldn't be more pleased with our children's school. The rating should definitely be higher!

My children attended Carmel elementary and I was extremely pleased with the teachers and staff. Every teacher had at least a masters degree and most had decades of experience. The teachers are extremely caring and show patience and kindness to the children.

My son has been at Carmel for four years and I can't say enough wonderful things about the faculty and staff. The dedication to the students is top notch. Carmel has earned awards and accolades year after year. Due to the high standards of the Cherokee County school District and Carmel Elementary, my family and I have decided to stay where we live.

This was our first year at Carmel. I have 2 girls one in second and one in fourth. Last year my second grader had a terrible anxiety about going to school. With working with the wonderful counselor and teacher she now loves school. This is by far the best school we have ever attended.

My daughter started school here. She attended her kindergarten and 1st grade year. Her kindergarten year was pretty unproductive. Her teacher was retiring and seemingly not interested in the kids. I felt like she was just floating through the year to get to her retirement fund and that my daughter got the short end of the stick. Then in 1st grade i was more hopeful. Around November i noticed my daughter didn't seem to be where i thought she should be academically. I had THREE different meetings with her teacher and held numerous conversations about my concerns for my daughter. Every single time she told me she was up to par. Turns out she was NOT where she should be and now she has been playing catch up her entire 2nd grade year because of the lack of care the teachers showed. This is a terrible school and i am so thankful my daughter got out before anymore harm could have been done to her education.

I really like the way Carmel El inspires courtesy and respect. I visit my 1st grader for lunch a few times a week and volunteer as needed and the children are well behaved and they really seem engaged with their teachers. I think the ratings should be higher.

My daughter was in 2nd grade i was really disappointed with her t teacher she took a lot of personal days off and seems not to connect with her students.I had an incident and when i tried to resolve it with the teacher it was futile,I resulted to speaking with the assistant principal and the whole incident was passed off as nothing to be concerned about after threatening to suspend a 2nd grader..Please take into consideration before having your child attend this school.

We switched from the top public elementary in the state to Carmel. I was very nervous to leave the top school. However, I have been VERY VERY happy with Carmel. The teachers are very smart and really work hard to give the students an excellent education. I do not feel the score on the website reflects the education my children are receiving. Of course their are aspects of Carmel that I wish could be better but I felt the same way with the best school in the state too.
