I would recommend this school. We have had a great experience so far. Our child is happy, learning and feels encouraged and cared for by the teachers. The team spirit and coaches for softball have made the experience at King significantly memorable. We also like the inquiry based IB curriculum using creative global thinking as opposed to the traditional approach. My child has enjoyed the Communications elective and Chinese language class leading to an overall well rounded education.

I would recommend this school. My kid has felt encouraged and excited to learn. The softball and swim teams provided a nurturing and positive experience. While there are incident reports, my kid has never felt unsafe. The principal and staff are helpful. Teaching experience is mixed - would say that 3 out of 5 teachers are motivating and have made a significant difference in my child's learning. Overall a great experience!

For a School that you’d think would stand for everything Martin Luther King Jr. himself stood for, this school does not. When I went here I went through tons of bullying from both students, staff, and teachers. Whenever I went to someone who I thought could be a trusted adult, they told me it would be handled. Months would pass and the bullying would still continue. I’ve had my life threatened by students and even once had a staff member threaten to hit me. The teachers who I thought would help me if I had hard time understanding or even completing work would ignore me. I’ve only ever had one teacher at this school who was willing to help. 1 out of my 5+ teachers were able to help me. Martin Luther King Jr. believed in non-violence, love, and equality. This school does NOT represent that.

I'm a parent of 3 that have made their way through the public school system - 2 have special needs and I can tell you from my experience that if you have a high-achieving child they will probably be ok at King, if they can overlook the constant fighting. If you have children with special needs however, it puts a spotlight on the glaring shortcomings of the teachers, communication and results at this school. I have been so frustrated not even being able to get in touch with my child's math teacher when he is failing math.

Students (especially the girl students) are sexually harassed with no punishment to their harasser, and in some cases, get in trouble for seeking justice. The administration justifies these actions and don't punish the male students because they’re on the football or basketball team. It’s horrifying, seeing your child be harassed in such a way with no repercussions. Please keep your children close and safe, because this school doesn’t.

Please ignore any reviews that suggest that there is systematic racism against white students. The statement in itself shows a lack of knowledge of what constitutes systematic racism and reveals a clear bias. The reality is that some white parents are uncomfortable in predominantly black spaces and have a fear of black children. King Middle School has challenges including behavioral issues and some fighting. However, this is the current reality for schools all over Atlanta and the nation as a whole regardless or race, income and geography (intown, suburbs, rural). Students are struggling having to deal with the impact of Covid, the loss of socialization with friends, and for some being food and housing insecure. King Middle School is particularly impacted since the majority of its students are low-income. What we love about our school is that our teachers are veterans and committed to working at King specifically (most teachers I have talked to have been there 5+ years.) We are happy to have been granted an IB certification, and our school works hard to make real world connections for our students. This year we had an interim principal because our amazing last principal was promoted to District leadership. We are looking forward to working with a new principal and seeing what's in store for our diverse and growing community.

Systemic racism and homophobia are prevalent at this school. My son is picked on daily for being both white and gay. He has his hair pulled and also beat up by another student (who was expelled). The administration has taken no action that has changed the situation for him at all. We are now leaving the city. We have little alternative but to move to a place where we are loved. Lots of promises no action.

We are doing great things here. The leadership team, led by Mr. Brown has been a terrific change for the kids and continues to meld the school to great accomplishments.

I love King MIddle School and am saddened by the undeserved, poor reputation that it still has. Like any parent, I was concerned about my child entering middle school and the new social challenges he would face; however, the format of grouping children into learning communities limits their exposure to older children and facilitates a bond between the cohorts and the teachers. I am impressed with how accessible all the teacher's have been when I needed to discuss my son's academic progress or behavior. We have worked together to help him become more focused in the classroom and to utilize his potential. I feel like I have a team working with me for my child's education. The principal is a wonderful leader with a positive attitude. He makes me believe that our children are going to recieve the education and the support they need to do well in middle school and beyond. As a Title I School, King offers a variety of supplimental services to assist children with both their academics and their character. I look forward to the day when this gem of a school is recognized within the community.

My son attend King Middle and now, will be leaving the 8th grade, I am an active parent in the school, as well as part of the P.T.A. and LSC, I must say the teachers and staff here is really good, and I'm not just saying that....We do have uniform code, we also ,have good programs, that are good for healthy development. This is a school, that is diverse, and good choice for gifted and special needs children....We are Title 1 as well.... This school, will be getting a makeover coming....The kids here do go on exciting field trips...This school also, is growing in numbers, we have over 500 students here....So, let this gem of a choice be where your child can grow in this middle school...It was definitely mine and I am very happy at that...
