Very overly rigorous school lacking consistent clubs and enrichments. They do not value all cultures and only focus on certain chosen ones. Ive had two kids compete this school and every year there they were stressed over test scores and other things that the teachers specifically would make the kids stress over. They punish children in ways that I do not agree with. Fast forward we are now out of that environment both kids are straight A student and now love school again. I would not recommend this school as a different cultured person than what the school is based

We have had our children in Amana for 3 years, in elementary school. I feel that this school is the best example of a multicultural environment that Ive ever experienced. Thats in terms of race, social/economic status, and academic level of the students. There are some amazing teachers as well. However as my oldest has progressed the rigor got extremely intense, almost like they just have fun in kinder and 1st, and then throw everything at you in 4th and 5th. Theres also been an energy shift since the new principle started - it could be a good thing but based on some of the staffing changes the culture of the school may change dramatically. Still great for now.

My family decided to try Amana based on the options listed on their website and the information received on a tour. After the first year, we knew this was not the place for our children, but we decided to give it another year. After this year's experience, we can definitely say this school is not somewhere we would recommend for anyone with an elementary-aged student (specifically grades 4-5). Without a doubt, 5th grade was the worst year! The school has a PBIS system, but does not use it appropriately. The teachers focus on punitive measures and do not want children who are anything but neurotypical and submissive students. If you want your child to have a good experience, go somewhere else. Additionally, bullying is turned a blind eye to, probably because the teachers speak to the students disrespectfully.

Amana academy is a free public charter school for grades K through 8. I have had two scholars at the school for 3 years, starting in K and 3rd, and plan on them going through Middle School. I absolutely love the involvement you get as a parent: picking the children up at the classroom gives you a touch point with the teachers everyday, and also builds community because you get to meet other parents and kids. When we were at our neighborhood school, we might only see the teacher less than a handful of times a year between end of semester parties and parent-teacher conferences. The STEM education based in experiential learning is so beyond what you can typically get: they teach all of these same Georgia and Fulton County standards as is required, but they take 4 to 6 field studies per semester and so they are able to integrate their learning to the real world. All of the different classes are also integrated, so even things like specials (Art, STEM, P.E.) relate to what they are learning in the classroom. Every student kindergarten through 8th grade takes Arabic as one of their special classes, and in Middle School you can add a second foreign language. There are opportunities like Community circles almost every week where you can learn what is going on at the school in your students classes. There are also lots of touch points like student-led conferences, and end of semester celebrations of learning where you can see your students portfolio of study and bulletin boards filled with activities and high quality work. Amana also lets you be really involved in ways which we're not available at the neighborhood school.

My daughter has been at Amana for 2 years and we have no complaints. I love how diverse the school is. Staff is always friendly and helpful. My daughter comes home happy and safe at the end of the day so that's always a plus in my book.

It's our second year, now with 2 kids at Amana. We are so far, very satisfied. I don't understand the bad reviews here, maybe they changed a lot of people. All I know is, I love the diversity of this school! It was exactly what our kids need it. They always have great field trips, projects and my kids love the after school clubs they have.
I feel very secure always having a police officer there. I don't mind at all, and appreciate that.
My kids have great grades so far and they love to go there.
I always ask them about everything; the teachers and staff are good. The new principal Mrs. Bryson is amazing!
They renovated some parts of the school this year and it looks better! I hope they keep improving, but we are very satisfied! :)

My son started at Amana Academy since Kindergarten and now he's at 5th grade. The teachers are very attentive to the students, while the staff is always helpful. He is in TAG and advanced math, so they do their best to accommodate students with special needs.

Ok, this is not a fun video nor I feel great about posting, but I feel I need to advocate for what is correct and show my boys that we stand for what is right at all times. I have being dealing with a Principal who is bullying and discriminating my son for months now. If you know me you are aware I always choose to solve things with peace and communication.
However, today I felt extremely frustrated and powerless when I saw the unfair action of this Principal towards my son and he simply showed me with his arrogant attitude that anything I do or any Department of Education I try to report his actions and behavior would result in absolutely nothing since he said it would just go back to his school and they would close the case.
I am dealing with a Principal who said to me he was bullying my son and I cannot believe I am not going to be able to teach my son we have to always do the right thing.
The Principal from Amana Academy, Mr Credi has wrongfully applied many punishment towards my son. In this video you can hear my son was not even aware of what was going on I went to pick him from school and he just looked at me in shock not even knowing what was happening
I want to let everyone aware of what Amana Academy has being doing to their students. I have several written requests with no answers

I feel like this School is good but the only problem. Is my daughter got her period and she was too Scared to go ask the nurse, so she went to the bathroom, and she needed a pad and a change of pants so I pick her up. But I'm not saying the school is bad it just needs to have Period dispenser's and let 1-3 go use the kindergarten bathroom and let 4-8 grade use it but 4 graders need to be watched.

The period dispenser you guys have right now is old, I want my daughter to be comfortable.

I think installing this habits on the kids at such an early age is a very wonderful thing. Unfortunately our son had a bad experience at this school. My sons teacher was dishonest to my husband and I about my sons academic progress. My son would come home crying from being bullied and treated unfairly by his teacher. For example, his teacher never displayed my sons work in her classroom like the other kids. She took pictures and bragged about the other kids are better. She even ate my sons snacks that I sent to classroom parties. During PTA meetings she ignored my husband and I and she only spoke to other parents. Also During a year end meeting with the principal, I believe my sons teacher lied about my sons academic progress to save her job. Although we asked her to be honest and she never spoke up and supported her actual statements. She was dishonest and she changed her whole story. Whats worse is that the principal agreed with her regardless of the evidence I had through emails. Also the principal made a bias statement about African American young men. She stated they perform much lower in academics than any other race. Thats sad because shes a Black Woman herself putting her own race down. We made a horrible mistake enrolling our son to this bias charter school. Furthermore the teachers showed favoritism to gifted kids and other races. We filed a serious complaint with the Ga. Dept. of Education. Please beware of sending your son or daughter to this school if you are a Black or African American. This is not a good charter school. They are biased regarding race.
My son hated this school so much and this was a very serious problem and the principal failed us and she didnt care.
The Good News is that we took our handsome Black American son out of this school and he is performing exceptionally well than the kids at this school. Hes in one of the top 3 schools in Johns Creek. Who knows some of these teachers and administrators may work for my son one day, thats why you have to be careful how you treat others. They may become your boss.

I have been an Amana Parent for more than 5 years now. This year i sent my last born son to Kindergarten at Amana, he could hardly read or write having not had the best of daycares prior to his arrival at this school. I am personally giving a shout out to Ms. Tiffany Everette who was not only dedicated to my son but also very patient..(my son isnt the easiest kid to have in your class) I am proud to say he may not yet be the perfect reader buts she did shape him well enough to be reading and is working hard at his numbers.....

My family and I love Amana Academy and can definitely recommend the school to any one looking for quality education.

We enjoy the STEM focus and EL Curriculum. This combination sets Amana apart from other elementary schools and charter schools in the area. It is what attracted us to the program. The learning foundation that is put in place is carried through to Middle School where students enjoy smaller class sizes and really shine in academic performance. Additionally parents have a great opportunity to participate in their child's education. They are welcomed with open arms through volunteering and at regular community based events. School leadership is fantastic and the teachers are really great! A good overall culture and positive energy throughout.

My kid was bullied at this school and the teachers and staff did not do anything about it or respond to me. My son was surprised singles out because they felt that he was not smart as the other students. Also the teachers were dishonest ama did not communicate to us about my son's academic performance instead they judged him and created a negative paper trail and stereotyped my kid. We have really been enjoying our first year at Amana Academy. My children are being challenged daily and supported and encouraged along the way. We love the diversity of the school as it prepares our children for college and their future workplace.

At Amana there is a strong emphasis on being a good scholar, but also a good citizen. I love the Expeditionary Learning style, and the sense of community at Amana. My son has already gotten some amazing experiences, such as learning the entire "I Have a Dream" speech and then having the opportunity to recite it at Ebenezer Baptist Church, and he's just in second grade. The curriculum is rigorous, but so worth it!

I am the parent of 2 students at at Amana Academy in Grade 1 and Grade 5. My oldest son previously attended a private school and I am more pleased with the strong dedication of the staff and the administration at Amana than his previous private school.
I have been especially impressed with the continued efforts of his 4th grade teacher from last year who helped with bringing out my son's leadership abilities. He has always been a very strong student academically, but was apprehensive about asserting himself in front of others. His teacher pushed him out of his comfort zone and allowed him to take on the responsibilities of being the leader of several Science groups (such as Forces if Motion) within the classroom which he absolutely loved. She also wrote the most eloquent recommendation for a scholarship for the Lockheed Martin Aviation Camp at Fernbank Science Center for this past summer, which he wonderfully received. Our family has been so grateful for the incredible improvements (academically, socially, assertively, etc.) we have witnessed in or son which had so much to do with the diligence and hard work of such a dedicated teacher.

I am a first year teacher at Amana Academy. I have worked as a para-professional in 2 other schools and have worked with my three adult children through their school years.

I have been very impressed with all that administration does to support the teachers and students throughout the year. Continual training has been provided through a mentor program for new teachers, as well as on going professional development for for all teachers. Administration has been helpful in providing feedback, materials, and ideas when needed. And when extra support was called for by struggling students, administration jumped right in teaching support classes before the school day begins. Truly, everyone I have encountered at the school wants to do all they can to help the teachers and students succeed.

For the younger grades (K-3), I would say this school is okay. For the upper grades, not so much. I have seen good teachers discriminated against because the parents had an issue with a teacher's race, gender, or sexual orientation. There has been almost a 65% turn over rate in the faculty and staff within the past 2 years. They claim they have "Expeditionary Learning," but their teachers have not been properly trained on the processes. Administration refuses to follow through with disciplinary actions and test scores and school records have been changed to allow students to pass. Ask any graduate that attends a public high school after leaving Amana and you will know they are not properly prepared for high school. If you want your child to succeed and not be bullied every day at school, find some where else for them to go!

Seeing is believing, so don't pay credence to the Oct 25, 2015 review without visiting the school a taking a tour for yourself - it has been an awesome learning environment for my kids! The school's Expeditionary Learning approach is unique among the great schools of North Fulton, and the school's STEM focus crosses subjects and is not just one class. And, why not teach Arabic as a foreign language? It's only spoken by a half-billion people; and we need more global thinkers. Lastly, don't let the building fool you. Yes, Fulton County should be providing the school more funding for improvements, but many classrooms have windows and I think we are the only school in the area with awesome STEM makers space. The building is in front of Wills Park where my child gets plenty of outdoor time. Seriously, don't listen to one disgruntled review. See for yourself!

This school is located in what appears to be an old, rehabilitated grocery store. There are almost zero windows in the entire building, so there is pretty much no natural light. The car pickup line is located behind the grocery store/school, and takes forever. The students are required to learn Arabic...for some reason. The whole operation seems low budget. Given the outstanding public school options available nearby, you would be doing your child a disservice sending him or her to Amana.

My daughter will be going to the 3rd grade here and my son, joining her at Amana in Kindergarten come August. I have nothing but respect for the culture and zeal for academics that each of the Amana crew members exhibit.

I attended Amana Academy as a 6th grader when it first opened in 2006. I graduated as a 8th grader in 2008 with the first graduating class! Because I absolutely loved the Amana environment, I attended a charter high school. Because Amana challenged and prepared me, I was ready to take on college during my senior year by being enrolled in the Dual Enrollment Program at GA Perimeter College. After my senior/freshmen year, I attended GA State University in which I am currently a senior studying Communication with a minor in Psychology and Sociology! During this time, I decided to work to gain professionalism & to be able to pay for my Master's. When I thought of where I wanted to work, Amana Academy instantly came to mind. I sent in my resume, was interviewed, and then hired as the full time Paraprofessional for Kindergarten! Three weeks into working at Amana Academy, I am truly amazed at how much Amana has grown (300 students to 750) and how it continues to strive for what's best for everyone. I am truly blessed to have been part of this community and to finally be back in it.

My kids have been at this school for 5 years and we have been very happy. The small classrooms. The EL program is great! All staff and teachers knowing my children by name has been welcoming and personal ! My son needed extra help in reading and they quickly made arrangements to help him. One of the parents commented about the preference in school because of religion....We are Jewish and WE NEVER have been treated unfairly, in fact, we felt more welcomed at Amana than our old school up north! My child attended this school two years ago and I voluntarily moved him to my neighborhood schools. Things I liked: lots of diversity. The annual International day event is very nice and lots of different cultures are represented. Things I didn't like: my son started in kindergarten and it was his teacher's 1st year teaching. She had little support and her inexperience hurt my child in the end - emotionally and academically. This was and continues to be a common theme at this school. His experience the following year was the same. This school struggles with wanting to compete academically with the public schools nearby, but with much fewer resources and talent. The kids pay a heavy price in the end. One final note, I know this isn't a popular comment, but there is a significant cultural bias at the school in favor of some of the kids who share common religious beliefs. This Was my experience at the time. My child's experience since leaving has been a 360 both academically and emotionally! We haven't experienced any of the challenges we faced while at Amana. It's confirmed that environment plays a key role in your child's success.

I am currently an eighth grader at Amana, and I have been there since fifth grade. I was, I admit, skeptical of the school beforehand, because of the uniform. Four years later, however, I realize how much easier the uniform is on everyone. It cuts down on bullying and makes the mornings much easier. Also, I have never personally had any accounts of bullying at Amana. I have seen very few disputes between my classmates, and they were addressed immediately and cleared up. The staffing of the school is definitely above the bar. I have been very fortunate in my past education. That being said, Amana has been successful in specifically addressing a student's needs one on one, where my previous schools have failed. Teachers strive to help and aid their students in any way they can. Something else I would like to point out, that other reviews seem to be lacking, is Community Circle. Before coming to Amana, I was very shy. After a year or two of doing community circle, I expressed myself more effectively. (Just a side note: Some of the reviews written by 'parents' do not sound like they are written by adults. The grammar mistakes and general rudeness do not sound mature and adult-like)

Amana is an excellent school. I think involved parents will naturally have a better experience. When I go to the school to visit I find that there is always something new going on. I won't say its a perfect school, for example I don't like the front desk telling teachers you are on your way to their class and no that doesn't happen everywhere. I also don't think parent input is taken into accout at all times. The uniforms are nice but we need more vendors, especially for the jackets. The school buses really need monitors since k-8 share a bus, and there needs to be a better grasp on bullying. For an overall I think academically Amana is amazing. We just have small things to work on.

The idea behind expeditionary learning is wonderful, however this school has a really long way to go. The administration tries hard to please parents above anything else and will often let behavior concerns off with a warning. Communication and organization left much to be desired. I would not send my kids to this school, nor would I want to work on the staff at this school. There is something to be said about a school that lets more than 30% of their staff go at the end of the year either due to non-renewal or resignation.

Amana teaches fine but it has little barriers to stop bullies. I was a student there and 80% of the time I was in tears, and I am a very outgoing person. I am a A+ student, but even I acknowledge that they need to improve on their teaching methods.

We relocated to the area and chose this school based on the excellent school tour we were given. We were really excited about the curriculum and the focus on leadership, character, and respect. BIG disappointment. HUGE disappointment. The middle school behavior problems are out of control. Students name calling, using profanity in the classroom, disrespecting the teachers, talking during tests and quizzes. The teacher probably has no parent support from these particular parents and no admin support, which I believe is the problem. When I brought my concerns to the Middle School principal she said she wasn't aware of the problems and would make some inquiries. Then never got back to me although she said she would call me the following day. Other parents I spoke to said they could write a book, it has been ongoing and nothing is going to change. My advice, realize kids are possibly attending the charter school because they have had problems in the district school. Also, the charter school wants to keep their enrollment up as to avoid losing their charter so they are not enforcing the student handbook rules. Unbelievable. Terrible school.

This is my son's first year at Amana Academy. I really wish I had known about Amana some years ago. While my son got a pretty good education from his elementary school, I feel like he missed out on that "special something" that Amana offers. I love the cultural diversity and my son has excelled in Arabic. His teachers are fresh, innovative and eager to address the needs of the students. I get constant feedback on my son's progress. I also have had very pleasant experiences with the staff and other parents while volunteering at the school. I am looking forward to what the next few years will bring.

Amana is a very special place. My oldest son started in 5th and graduated last year. He is now at FSA High, and though very different from Amana, he says he feels close to Amana still because many of his friends attend high school with him now. (How's that as praise from a kid who just left middle school?) The teachers are top-tier--many have PhD's. Diversity is welcome. My blond, green-eyed child stood out! He never once felt out of place, though. And the academics are rigorous but approached in such a way that learning is joyful. I'm so grateful for what Amana did for our family and my son's academic experience, which before 5th grade had been spotty.

I moved from public school in 7th grade to Amana for 8th grade last year and I can not tell you how SNOTTY i was ! i didnt even realize it! i disproved of the school's "poorness" (just because they didnt have brand new things) and the dedication of the teachers. i was used to a public environment with cliques drugs lies and the such. but here, i learned to bond with the other students so well and we all became friends! at the end of the year, every student literally could not stop saying how the place was like a second home to us. it was such a deep environment, so free, so happy, so ...PURE that it was just beautiful! it was almost like a miniature heaven. the education was fabulous, we had fun everyday learning and that part surprised me the most. that i could laugh and joke while doing math! it was just too amazing to be true because amana taught me and the others not to be plastic. it taught us that we can be who we are and we don't have to worry about what others think. we even had some cheesy heart to hearts in class with the teacher where we'd talk about stuff while doing work and the teacher would hear it and explain it instead of telling us to be quiet. i love this school!

I have a son who graduated from Amana and a current student there. The graduate started in 7th grade. He was immediately welcomed by staff and students alike. He never felt like an outside, as new students do in many traditional schools. My youngest has been here since kindergarten. He loves the diverse nationalities of his friends. He is always learning something new about their cultures. The Environmental Ed program is excellent. He is always coming home with a new "green" tip he has learned, and loves being a friend of the planet. In PE/Health, he has learned to make healthy food choices, and even tells me when something I serve is unhealthy. If you are looking for a small school environment, where you and your child will be known by all as a person, not just a number, where they get a holistic education in a culturally diverse environment, look no further than Amana! The first day of school this year he came home and said, "Mommy, I love my school!" That speaks volumes.

Amana Academy is such an amazing school. My children have been going their since it first opened. My son is now a sophomore at Roswell High School. His transition last year from Amana to Roswell went by smoothly and he never struggled in any of his honors classes. My daughter is now in 7th grade and in TAG and loves going to school everyday. The middle school teachers are really amazing. I have been on many of the field studies and believe me they study and learn a lot. We are a very environmentally friendly school. Amana has many clubs and sports to choose from. Please do your children a favor by not listening to gossip when choosing your school. When your child can't wait to go to school everyday you will know they are in the right school.

This is an Excellent school! My daughter graduated from Amana Academy and was so advanced she will graduate High School a year early. My younger children attend Amana and are thriving. I love this school and recommend it to any parents who are looking for a school with the right balance of educational excellence and nuturing.

Amana has so many great aspects and accomplishments. The greatness starts at the top with the Executive Director and never stops! The teachers are fantastic and are highly educated. The environment is one of community and family. Parents are greatly involved on many levels. The education is superior and accomplished. I teach middle school at Amana. Below, please find my response to Mr. or Ms. April 27, which I hope you will find more useful than April 27's rant: "The Students Are Not Smart"-- Please refer to this year's CRCT scores. They will be available on Fulton County's website soon. You will find us at the top. "The students all have ADD"--Not even close to true, and I am also offended that this medical term would be used as an insult. Everyone learns differently, and we welcome that diversity. "The Students Are Disrespectful"-- They're teenagers, so sometimes this is true. But we use these mistakes as teachable moments and correct our students in a positive way. Major discipline infractions are handled in accordance with our official policies. And no, we're not going to tell you how we disciplined a child that is not yours. "The school is loud at any given moment": Yes, because the students are leading the class and working in groups. They are engaged, involved, and motivated. "The teachers dress and look like bums"--A put-down to those who are homeless, and also untrue. Typical "teacher wear" in MS includes: dress pants, nice blouses, jackets, dresses, skirts, and suits.

In response to the comment from April 27th: The school has more than 500 students, a waitlist, enthusiastic parents, students and teachers, and many of us parents have put their kids into Amana to NOT have a streamlined, one-size-fits-it-all, work sheet drilled student that other schools produce. My husband is a top level recruiter who sees the outcome of various educational models every day, and we feel that Amana with its Expeditionary Learning, which is naturally hands-on, active and also verbal, its unique approach and also its understanding of child and adolescent development serves the kids better than the mainstream educational system. The school prepares students for the challenges of the future in a globalized world better than our local school which supposedly is a "good school", just that it does not challenge the kids to think, question and be creative thinkers. Furthermore, the school actively teaches citizenship and respectful behavior. I wish that comments on this website at least were respectful towards the children and the teachers who work there, even if one doesn't like the educational model of the school.

This school is a big joke. The middle school students are not smart at all. Not to mention, the teachers dress and look like bums. This school gives a big presentation to get you in there and if you are an involved parent, then you will see how horrible the school really is. They don't discipline the horribly behaved children or teach the kids to respect adults. I have never seen anything like this before. If there was a better staff and teachers, then this school could be a good one. Then the lady in the front is doing like 10 jobs at once. This school is loud at any given moment. I just cannot believe that this school is still operating and the ones that like this school cannot possibly be involved parents. This school would be better if they hired some better teachers and got a hold on their horrible kids; most of which seem to have A.D.D or some type of behavoir problem. If you love your children, do not send them to Amana.

I am an Amana middle school student right now and I love my school! I wouldn't trade this school for any other because the teachers really care about us. I know my school is small and other kids complain because they don't think it's cool, but the more I look at other schools the more I know how special it is to be here. It is so great to have separate boy/girl classes and I get to go on so many trips that other kids never take. I wish it went through highschool.

This is a great school because of the wonderful people however it has a very bad education. I took pre-algebra in 7th grade in my old school and when I moved to this school was forced to repeat it because they did not offer Algebra 1. It is also behind in science. I think the education in middle school is very bad. I had a very hard time in the beginning of 9th grade in honor classes because many of the other students had already done the main concepts of the course.This school also did not offer any extra clubs/ competitions however they have recently started some such as Science Olympiad and National History Day. It is not a good school for gifted/talented students as it has a weak education system. -Current high school student ( went to eighth grade in Amana)

This is not a paid comment so Amana Academy is not going to get a 5 stars rating. Very few parents are happy with Amana but majority of them are unhappy and are pulling thier kids out of the school mostly because of academic reasons. Amana means "TRUST" but you cannot trust on school administration , School staff and the board ao i think the name of the school should be changed to Misamana Academy (Mistrust Academy). You will regret if you send your kid to this school. There are better options out there. Research and talk to others before you decide for your kid"s future. This is a sincere advice to save people from getting hurt.

I'm a Amana Middle School Parent. Non- Arabic, all-American. So, I'm not sure what the last comment was about. If you want a serious academic environment, besides the bonus privilege of your child learning such a difficult and different language like Arabic. My child has been there since 5th grade, and we have not regretted once placing him/her there for Middle School years. The separate-gender classrooms in middle school year, yes, is different from regular schools, but that shows that students are there to really focus on learning, and not in mingling, dating, etc. The parent/teacher communication on that school is amazing! All teachers AND faculty knows your child and You by name, and I mean every single one of us.. And you always know what projects, or material they are studying. No matter what race or religion you are. They are very smart teachers and Faculty, and it shows! And the courtesy to deal with parents and students are beyond anything other schools have had it the past for us. We are extremely happy and proud, as is my child, to be part of Amana Academy.

I am a parent of an Amana student and couldn't be more pleased. The school has a wonderful combination of strong leadership, parent involvement, great teachers, and diversity. The facilities could use some improvement (especially the gym area), but that is to be expected for such a fairly new establishment. Amana is very transparent and communicates effectively with parents. Homework is challenging for the appropriate grade levels. I am not aware of any school that has done as much as Amana in its 5 years of establishment.
