I attended private school all my life, but of course in another country, I was very worried about this with my daughters because I wanted them to receive the same education as me, but here in the USA private education is ridiculously expensive, so I opted for public school, nothing to complain about, my daughter is happy, the teachers are all excellent and the principal is very open to conversation, very kind, and has done a wonderful job there.
I would simply have to say that they should be more strict with the dress code, sometimes I see children who go to school however they want and it's not possible, and they should put more love into the end-of-grade ceremonies, I know that not everyone can collaborate but some of us are willing to give our children an act more worthy of their effort.

Two of my children attend this school, and I have been very happy with the education they are receiving. There is a dress code, but nothing that I wouldn't expect from any other school that strives for conformity and structure. The teaching/advisory staff is very engaged with both children, and willing to communicate if needed. I was fortunate to have a very positive public-school education and feel like my children are receiving the same here.

The dress code is VERY strict, it's to where you can't wear jackets, if you do wear one IT HAS TO BE NAVY BLUE no blacks or any other color to wear. if you don't have money to buy a coastal jacket, they just brush you off, it gets cold sometimes and some people can't do anything about it.

This is a great place. Teachers are really responsive. The principal has exceptional communication. My kid is happy and thatÂ’s saying a lot for middle school!

The school is good but the students are not so good sometimes, especially in 6th grade, I am still in this school and I don't get billed but I see other kids get bullied but the teachers don't notice and if you're in a class with one bad kid everyone gets punished if that kid does something bad and there are some good things are that you could learn a lesson very quick in this school and not all kids are bad but half of them are. The busses are alright except mine is unfair because I always get into trouble for doing the exact same thing that other kids do and other kids are allowed to use profanity without getting into trouble but if say something even close to a swear word I get into trouble and the kids are rude sometimes on the bus but overall coastal is an alright school I only went here for civil engineering and to learn but I did make a lot of friends but Coastal Middle school pls read this

I have been bullied at this school before and the teachers just sit there and say ignore. it is hard to around them. some kids draw weird stuff in the bathrooms. Same students also vape on and off-campus and do other drugs. Some teachers are old or somewhat out of college. counselors are not helpful in some situations. the school is OK

The principal Mrs. Schuster-Jones and the teachers are fantastic! They are super responsive and want the absolute best for all the students! So glad we choose to go to Coastal rather than a private school.

Posted: August 13, 2020

i mean they definitely give you homework! itÂ’s easy most of the time.

Posted: August 13, 2020

most of the teachers taught very well, some worst then others but overall most of them helped me pick up things.

almost every student at that school has either been bullied or been the bully, in some cases both. definitely not a bully free school.

Posted: August 13, 2020

absolutely horrific. i credit this school for many underlying mental health issues i have to this day. this school was almost nothing but rude and heartless to me. the principal is heartless and not understanding, most of the teachers the same way. academically i rate this school a 6/10 but on all other aspects 2/10. the only good thing i got out of this school was the chorus program which helped me get into a very well known high school in town. i donÂ’t wish the experience i had at this school on my worst enemy and to the people who understand and have gone through what i did, iÂ’m sorry.

My daughter who is currently in the 8th grade is 1 of 3 females in a class full of males. No way leadership should have found this to be acceptable. i am a male and i can remember 8th grade and the havoc i caused in class. Imagine what she has to endure on a daily basis.

Several years ago Coastal became an International Baccalaureate school, adhering to the goals of the UN founded IB program; these goals are: to teach that the US is oppressive and must change. To promote Islam, and to teach revised, whitewashed history of Islam, while villifying Christianity, Judaism. Children must learn the 5 pillars of Islam, but DO NOT learn the 10 commandments or core belief of Christianity.

My children were taught incorrect, revised history. They were taught propaganda. When I confronted the school, they lied to me. Then after I met with school officials, they actually AGAIN lied about what was discussed at the meeting.

My son has an IEP for Autism. Coastal middle is one of 2 in Chatham County that has an autism program specifically for children with this diagnosis, called PACE. The teacher running the program will give any and everything to see these kids succeed. She even opened her home for after school tutoring, driving a few kids back to her home for that tutoring.

Posted: August 1, 2018

My child was picked on a little bit because the kids knew they could get a rise out of him. He would understandably lash back. The faculty knew exactly who caused it and held those kids accountable, but also held my son accountable for not responding in the best manner. I thought these situations were well handled.

Posted: August 1, 2018

My son is autistic, but was pulled into many of the classes because the teachers are great!

Posted: August 1, 2018

For the most point, these students are fantastic. There are a few that need more attention from their parents though. I think the kids that have issues have absent parents that expect the school to do all the child rearing. Not a fault of the school!

Posted: August 1, 2018

The principal is communicative and has the faculty well organized and communicative!

Posted: August 1, 2018

The school uses google classrooms and other apps to communicate expectations for homework.

Posted: August 1, 2018

This school is fantastic. The teachers are genuine and caring. The autism program is unparalleled for public schooling. This school should be a model for other in Chatham County.

I do not like the principal. I do not like the staff overall. My child is fine at the school, but he has had numerous problems. First, I received a threatening letter about his attendance, had to take a day off and "meet" with this "knowledgeable" group of nitwits. I reported this "letter" to the board and they were reprimanded. Second, my son was sent away at lunch in tears because they would not accept a check for payment towards his lunch account. Third, the language taught in 6th grade is Chinese. Good Lord, please. My kid is fluent in both German and Dutch. Let's try a language that he could use and maybe build on. Third, I just overall hate this county. Island schools are the best of the worst in this county, but to do it again, I would have never come here. If you have the unfortunate fortune of having to move to Chatham County, I suggest Private Schools. On the Island, any of the Catholic Schools or St. Andrew's. In town, again, any Catholic School, Calvary, and maybe Savannah Christian. But Savannah Christian would be my last choice. Very stuck up. If possible, live and put your children in Bryan County or Effingham County Schools. Chatham County is broken and that is coming from a product of it. They have ruined it. Don't let it ruin your children.

Chatham County does not allow principals to suspend kids.

Posted: April 2, 2017

I have no idea if this is true or not.

Posted: April 2, 2017

No evidence of this. I cannot stand this principal.

Posted: April 2, 2017

No evidence of this. They do not suspend kids in Chatham County. My child is constantly telling me his entire class is being punished for one or two kids all of the time.

Posted: April 2, 2017

More negative than positive. My son is a well behaved student, however, he is constantly being punished for the whole class. I say kick out the little jerks and let the "normal" kids learn.

Posted: April 2, 2017

Either wayyy too much or not enough. Teachers should talk to each other.

All the prior reviews are old. Coastal has made great strides in the past five years. The school provides excellent communication with weekly emails, texts, tweets, and daily website updates. Academics are challenging. Many students leave 8th grade with high school credits. There are a wide variety of activities for all interests. The band, chorus, and athletics departments are all top notch. PTA is very active. Most of the teachers are caring. The faculty and administrative strive to offer a nurturing environment during the challenging middle school years. Discipline is strict and campus police are responsive to any issues. Both my kids have had positive experiences.
