If you actually care about your students education and being involved DO NOT SEND THEM HERE! They celebrate mediocrity at every level. They will change an advance class name just to appease the parents who students dont perform at that level but that only hinders the students because everyone IS NOT on the same level and the world will show them that. They play favorites and ignore the students who actually make great achievements who are AP Scholars that set the record for the HISTORY of their school and also the state of Georgia. They look over the real achievers of the school and the school board representative confirmed that thats how Hillgrove operates. Whos Who will not be done fairly instead of it being academic based its now a popularity contest! They dont do changing of the chairs! This is by far the worst school we have attended and relieved that it is now over! Please make Hillgrove your very last option when it comes to your childrens education you will be highly disappointed

If you are a teacher looking for a job, please avoid this school. Though it has high academic achievement, the administration lacks a backbone, the kids will do whatever they want, and parents, disgustingly entitled, run the school. I've been asked to "pass" students. There's "0" accountability for kids and their actions. Find a place where you'll be supported and valued. This school is not it.

A very mediocre, overcrowded American High School, with above average test scores that don't tell the whole story. For parents, HHS can be a very tough and sometimes unfriendly institution to navigate.

The course offerings and electives are lacking, as well as the absence of magnet programs on site. I'm afraid that the overly rosy reviews are more of an effort to bolster property values than be truthful and honest. Hillgrove COULD be much more.

My Daughter has just graduated from Hillgrove and we had a very good experience overall. The only department that felt under for us, was the counseling. For kids or families, from other countries that are not familiar with the US educational system, it can be a big challenge. At the beginning, we would ask for support and the counselors would take a month or more to respond, so we took it on our hands and did most of it by ourselves, but we got a great help from the county itself. Still, we feel we lost a momentum in several cases due to lack of knowledge and the gap on the response.

Not a great school to send anyone from the south. I sent my hispanic freshman and was constantly getting hate a bullied for being hispanic, terrible school!

I have 2 children attending Hillgrove High School. We have been in the feeder schools leading up to Hillgrove and I couldn't be more happy. The school is diverse and the kids learn to work together and become a community. Hillgrove has great academics and athletics. The school has great volunteers and support program.

Both of my children graduated from Hillgrove. My daughter had a choice to stay at McEachern or attend Hillgrove. Because of the epidemic drug and gang problem at McEachern she chose Hillgrove, and she, and we, were very happy with her decision. What I liked about it is the principal weeded out the thugs and troublemakers right from the get-go. The school developed a certain pride, both in sports and academics. Although my son didn't fare so well. He was an outstanding lacrosse player but they wouldn't let him play because of his grade grades. They were, and, I guess, still are, tough when it comes to grades and discipline. But I think they were a little too tough. The lacrosse coach had a bit of an attitude. But it's a great, and safe, school.

I have had 3 boys graduate from Hillgrove and it has done an excellent job instilling positive values like compassion, self-respect, a sense of community, and integrity in my boys.

I have had all 3 of my sons graduate from Hillgrove and couldnt be happier with this school. The academics are fantastic, the sports are top notch, and the sense of community is wonderful. I love the diversity and welcoming attitudes here. It is a fantastic school!

This high school was truthfully overrated. The students are extremely snobby and look down on any one who doesnt look like a typical cookie cutter West Cobb child. They dont support individuality at this school at all and if you look or act different the students and staff will belittle you. A lot of students are extremely cliquey. They act and dress exactly the same with little to no personality at all. This school likes to pretend that all the kids are goody goody and sweep all bad things that happen behind closed doors under rug but in reality Ive witnessed fights, drug usage/deals, bullying, blatant racism, favoritism for certain students, gangs, vandalism, skipping classes and disruptive students.

Despite a large portion of this school school coming from an affluent background, barely anything besides the sports departments received any money. Also, our school spirit was low. Nobody wanted to participate in extracurricular activities because they were boring and the school didnt make an attempt to make them interesting. We had no traditions like other high schools. We didnt go on many class field trips and the schools club that I was apart of didnt do many activities that got us involved in the community. Yet this school loves to boast an elitist mentality that its better than most schools in the county. I agree, that its test scores are high but a lot of those same students would completely forget what they learned after the test the next day.

However, some redeemable qualities of this school include some really great teachers, the food, the campus design and diversity. Hopefully, this school improves for future generations.

This very well may be one of the most shallow schools ever. On multiple occasions, people have received opportunities or special treatment because of their connections. If you are a popular and attractive preppy person, this school probably suits you, but if you aren't, this school feels biased against you. The cliques are so obvious it's insane, and the actual education is not incredibly organized all around. The sports teams coaches are very elitist and aren't nice to newcomers regularly. It really depends on the teacher because you can have an awesome teacher and counselor and really overlook the blatant bias and mistreatment around you, but if you have a condescending teacher and a counselor without initiative, the experience can be really depressing. I moved to this district to springboard my life into a better direction, but all I got was a slew of self esteem issues and unreasonable expectations from overbearing administrators who pretend to be invested in you. The school is not bad, but you have to make an effort to take advantage of what it can give you because nobody is going to drive you towards greatness aside from your friends. I understand why they're so strict about dress code after being there for four years; this schools appearance is all it has going for it.

The teachers are smart and capable and will help you. I can't generalize them, but a few only help those they like. Most aren't biased, just follow the rules strictly.

The homework is either useless or worth too much of a grade. Not enough things are standardized so you have to jump through your teachers hoops.

This school is run more like a prison camp. Suspension of students instead of helping them along is astounding. If a student sneezes the wrong way they are suspended. The staff is terrified in losing their jobs and I suspect that because of the principal of the school is probably bullying them. Kids go through a lot growing up and need the guidance of teachers and administrators and counselors to get them over the rough edges. They sent out a letter stating the other day that if Hillgrove is not your child's home school, it is a privilege for them to go there and that they can choose at any time to cancel that privilege for any time for any reason. So much for your child's education while living under a dark cloud.

My daughter's 9th grade year was absolutely amazing. She has formed great friendships, had caring teachers and her Counselor Mrs. Boyle, I can't say enough about how wonderful she is. 10th grade has started out great and I have faith that things will go as well if not better than last year. Kennedy is blessed to attend Hillgrove High School. The best is yet to come!!!!!

This school is probably great if you have an average child, but if you have a child with special needs or any type of IEP don't expect much help. I have found the communication between deparments to be not on par and my childs counselor to be very apathetic. I thought by transferring my child to a better school district I could expect better services or at least decent services , but I'm very disappointed thus faf

Before attending hillgrove I was at a high school in which barely had rules. Rules might be good but hillgrove is overboard with it. We have 6 minutes to get to class and If we don't we automatically get a detention, what about a warning? Not everyone can afford cars and what parent wants to be late to work because hillgrove staff cares more about sucking up to administrators than what a students home life might be like. I've never seen so many teachers suck up to the administrators it's disgusting. The dress code is off the wall. I'm sorry leggings,shorts, and slippers might just be the only thing someone can afford. Not everyone wants to dress up for school it's uncomfortable and makes people not want to learn. But hey if you're popular or pretty don't worry the administrators won't care what you do. I would never send my kid to a school that seems like a prison. Or where they can't walk in the hall with out being judged by not only students but teachers. Trust me I've heard the teachers talk bad about students.

I just graduated and absolutely loved the school. We have some of the best teachers, administators and principle in the state, by far. To put it simply I had a great four year and I will really miss Hillgrove.

You can't judge this school unless you are part of the staff. Teachers are terrified of losing their jobs or not having their contracts renewed. Everyone is sworn to secrecy. No one knows why teachers suddenly disappear. If they say anything, they are told that they will lose their jobs. Even the food court workers are afraid of losing their jobs because of all the rules. All classroom doors must stay locked during class. In such a large school, students only have about 6 minutes to get to class; they don't have time to go to the restroom or lockers. They have to carry their very heavy book bags all day. Teachers have their own rules about allowing students to go to the restroom. If students misbehave, it's always the teacher's fault. Rules are so strict that it doesn't take much for a faculty member or student to break a rule. Girls, for instance, can wear shorts but they can't wear a sleeveless shirt or blouse.

Being a student who has attended Hillgrove for all four years, I do have to say Hillgrove is a nice school but sometimes feels like a prison, you almost never leave the main building unless you have a p.e. class which is kind of suffocating at times. The school is full of cliques, just like any other high school I suppose. Most of the teachers are amazing, really helpful, still has those "bad apples" though. The administration is... STRICT STRICT, did I mention strict? It's really ridiculous at times. I understand you want to keep and maintain a structed environment but Kattoula/Shaw take some things way to far. When Boland left after my freshman year, everyone's mood changed for the worse. As a whole, Hillgrove is a really nice school -education and environment wise- administration on the other hand... Let's just say I feel bad for the students still there. CLASS OF 2012!

My son goes to this school and I could not be more pleased! I think this is one of the best high schools in the West Cobb area.
