Veterans Memorial Middle School is, by far, the best middle school our children have attended. As a military family, we’ve experienced many different schools, and for a long time, we never truly felt like we belonged—until now.

At Veterans, you are not just another number. From the moment you walk in, you are welcomed with open arms and genuine care. Our children have truly blossomed here, both academically and personally.

The school has made incredible strides with its staff and teachers. They have built strong, purposeful teams that clearly put students first. The positive culture they’ve created has transformed the environment into one where students feel supported, encouraged, and inspired every day.

Veterans Memorial doesn’t just talk about excellence—they live it. They truly lead the way.

We are so grateful to be part of this community and thankful that we chose to buy a home in this school zone.

They are not equipped enough to handle children with disabilities as they do not know what to do when something happens.

No they do not. The bullying here is horrendous. The principle doesn’t seem to have her head on straight enough and her emotions are everywhere because she’s constantly crying over something. They allow students to bully and continue to bully other students while they turn their heads the other way. It’s truly the worst I’ve ever seen in all 9 schools my children have gone to. We’re a military family.

The academic part of this school can be great, but they have some teachers who need their teaching license stripped from them because of how they treat students. Cussing them out and such. All 3 of my kids have came home and told me some horrific things about some of the teachers at this school and how they don’t try to stop bullying whatsoever. The principle needs to also get her emotions together because she’s always crying over something. This school to me honestly at the end of the day only cares about the end of the year scores and not so much the students, unless you’re an all straight A/B student in many activities and clubs. Other than that they do not care about your student at all. Trust me. You’ll understand it if your child goes here. You’ve been warned.

They only try and care if your student is in sports or a club. Other than that, they don’t care about your student at all. So no they don’t help develop much of anything here.

VMMS is not a great school. There are highly effective teachers who genuinely care about their students but some are plain awful, and administrators are terrible. If your child is on a sports team they’re set. They don’t need to get good grades, they don’t need to be good citizens, they just need to be a good athlete. The PE teachers are bored as the PE classes revolve around running a lap or two without stretching and playing four square. There’s constant bullying in the locker rooms and it’s acceptable behavior. My sons experience was that since he didn’t play sports he didn’t matter at the school. But students who were failing were allowed to participate in cross country, volleyball, and soccer. My daughter was bullied for three years by members of the girls soccer team. Nothing was ever done. The girls soccer team wins games and that’s what counts.

My son attended 6th grade at this school. Academically it was okay. He was in all advanced classes for the core subjects, and yet didn't feel challenged. Communication with the school is non-existent. The first sign of this was the fact that all local school supply stores had lists from other middle school, but not Veterans. Unlike other local middle school, there is no weekly email communications. we found out about the clubs the school had when we received the yearbook and saw all the pictures. How is a 6th grader supposed to join a club of we don't know about them? When I called the school about it and asked for some form of weekly communication be sent to parents, I was asked "what would we write every week? What would you like to know?" Really??? Why don't you ask what the other middle schools are doing? And to finish the school year, my son's phone was stolen. I spent an entire morning speaking with a police officer and all I was able to retrieve was the phone's chip. No police report, no court date, and the boy who stole the phone received no punishment. Although we were impressed with the teachers we met during open house (the only time we were invited to the school), the lack of partnership between home and school and the lack of communication show that the staff may be burned out and looking for the easiest way to get through the school year, as opposed to thinking with creativity and passion "how can we make this school remarkable?" It's very sad.

I used to go to this school. I wasn't too satisfied with this school. I was bullied often and the school was there to help me up until my 8th grade year. All reports I gave about bullying were never solved. The school did absolutely nothing to stop them. The bullies kept doing what they were doing. The worst part was that the bullies actually manipulated me and tricked the school into thinking I did something bad (when I didn't) and I got in trouble for it. The education there is really good but everything else is terrible. Send your child to another school.

My son entered the MCSS as an eigth grader at VMMS. He had some adjustment issues and the school personal was so kind at helping & encouraging him. They tested him & placed him in the gifted program giving him more challenges and he did well. They also worked with his special needs by helping his self esteem, social skills & general needs. Dr. Brenda Thomas (VP) and many of the staff were invaluable to me as a parent. Always encouraging, solution minded & kind. My son wasn't the perfect "cookie cutter" child and this school helped valid him, it was all we could have hoped for. We truely loved his year there!
