We have raised 5 boys at E. Rivers Elementary and you couldn't pay me to go to any other school! They have been in such supportive classrooms with excellent teachers as well as after school fun. The community and friendships we have made going to a neighborhood school are irreplaceable. There is fantastic parental involvement and all members of the family are woven into the fabric of the school. My youngest children were known well even before attending kindergarten! The facilities are top notch, light filled rooms, a well stocked media center (and even a book vending machine!), sensory room, and clean environment. The diversity has been such a great gift to our family as well. Our favorite night of the year is the international dinner where everyone comes together for a giant potluck with food from around the world and celebrates togetherness. Also, I love how they encourage students to be great leaders as they age up in the school with opportunities to serve and give back. Rivers is definitely the pride of APS!

This is an incredible school. It's a gem in APS. I love the incredible diversity of this school and the experiences that affords my kids. The teachers, staff, and community at Rivers is exceptional. I have 4 kids, 2 who went to Rivers K-5 and 2 who are still there in grades 2 and 4. My family has done the DLI program and my 9th grader is essentially fluent and well-prepared for high school across the board. It is truly an amazing place.

This is the beginning of 2025-2026 school year and fourth year our child has attended E. Rivers (3rd grade now). Our child is happy, likes th teachers and has friends. There is a wonderful cultural mix of students, white, black and Asian. It provides a rich environment. Being white and from Europe we really like the diversity. Parent involvement is very high and there are many ways to get involved - one-of volunteer opportunities to more in-depth involvement - all are welcome.
The school staff all appear to be well organized and led by the principal and are all on the same page. No gossiping or complaining, but very professional, hard working and always available to meet with parents. The PTA is active and provides a great deal of communication with the home through twice weekly newsletters, school-wide picnics, car wash, international dinner events and many other events.
The facility is modern, well maintained with subject specific classrooms to fully engage the students. There is plenty of outdoor space for recess and recreation. Kiddos, the afterschool program on-site is well loved by the students and always full shortly after registration opens each year.
We have been very happy with E. Rivers and feel we have a gem for our local elementary school.

We have two children at E. Rivers and a third attending next year. It is a fabulous school, with an excellent and committed principal and extremely supportive community. Most importantly, kids enjoy and look forward to school and feel safe and supported. As parents, we do not have to worry about our kids; they are cared for, nurtured, and getting prepared for their bright futures. The curriculum is balanced and develops the "whole child," encouraging not just academic achievement but developing well rounded kids. This is an A+ school.

We have sent 4 kids to this school and would not be anywhere else! The principal lives in our district. He is passionate and provides excellent leadership for our faculty, so much so that APS recruited him to help at a higher level but he wanted to stay with our kids! The teachers are passionate and go above and beyond in supporting students. We love the diversity and inclusivity in our school where all students have something to offer and everyone can work and learn together. Our facilities are top of the line with a newer building and incredible parental involvement helps fill in any gaps and provides additional funding for special projects. It truly is a family and a community for everyone can feel at home, learn and grow.

All four of my children have attended E Rivers, and we have had the best experience! The teachers and staff are supportive, engaging, and wise. The community of families is fun and enthusiastic. My kids got a challenging and creative educational experience. And overall, we couldn't imagine being anywhere else!

E. Rivers is a special place with wonderful teachers and a loving staff. The children love coming to school here. I believe its one of Atlanta's best kept secrets. My son has been through 1st grade through 3rd grade so far, and my daughter went to prek and kindergarten at E. Rivers. Even during covid the teachers did a great job teaching these kids under difficult circumstances. The diversity the school represents is beautiful! This year they even had a child with down syndrome in kindergarten with my daughter. E. Rivers has become a family we love.

My family has loved this school! My son attended 4th and is now finishing up 5th. He has had wonderful teachers. Staff has been great as well. Lots of fun activities year round and special events especially for 5th graders to make their last elementary school year amazing! Highly recommend.

Prior to Covid, E Rivers was one of the best elementary schools in the NA Cluster. When moving to the city from the suburbs, we specifically targeted this school district, seeing it as a great long term option (Elementary through High). Unfortunately, due to a severe lack of disciplinary actions against bullying, administrative turnover, teacher burn-out, high rate of retiring and the exit of tenured educators- coupled with poor hiring standards and lack of effective administration, the school has rapidly degraded post Covid. My children attended the school for many years, and due to poor teaching standards and bullying/ physical violence that was not addressed, weÂ’ve made the financially painful choice of enrolling in a private school. If your child is getting good grades and is generally well behaved at school, they will be deprioritized as the teachers spend their day yelling at children with severe discipline issues. While some of the teachers are amazing (itÂ’s a gamble to see where your child is placed), or unless you are joining the dual immersion program, IÂ’d be hesitant to send my child here. IÂ’m saddened to have seen what was a great community of educators and families deteriorate so rapidly.

Homework is appropriate to each grade level. Many grades give no more than 20 minutes of homework per day, that is not graded, but is to help establish healthy routines and review classroom concepts. teachers are very open to parents who have concerns about homework.

Overall, good. But I worry about security after the Parkland tragedy. There is no security officer anywhere near the front entrance. Between 7:30am and 8:00am, anybody can roam right through the front door without being questioned.

Our son attends. Last year we were super impressed with E Rivers - especially his teacher. This year E Rivers seems like a different school. His grades are lower, he doesn't understand homework, he was switched to a different class in September due to overcrowding or imbalanced classes (?). We'll wait and see if things make a 'u-turn' or not. If no change for better, then we'll reconsider private schooling.

We have been *very unimpressed* by how ineffective our child's teacher has been this school year. The teacher has poor communication skills, is unorganized, late / no-show to all meetings this year, regularly sends home incorrect materials or sends materials home late. Our child has done exceptionally well during other school years....

Posted: March 28, 2016

TOO MUCH HOMEWORK! 1.5-3 hours spent on homework each night. Our child's backpack weighs 10lbs which is equal to 1/4 of her total body weight.
Teacher does not effectively teach new concepts in classroom, so our child often does not understand materials assigned as homework. We spend extra time teaching the un-learned material at home. It's utterly ridiculous!

The teachers at this school are all very energetic and wonderful! (except for a select 1 or 2, however this should be expected)

Posted: February 11, 2016

Since this school is I.B., integrity is a value that is highly stressed. Teachers also demonstrate fairness.

My years in E. Rivers were some of the best years of my life. E. Rivers is an amazing school. The French program as well as the challenge program are fantastic! The school is also a wonderful community. The whole student body as well as parent body is very tight knit and diverse. If I were trying to find a school for my child, I would choose E.Rivers!

Posted: August 18, 2015

Very strong emphasis on self reliance
& innovation . Many classes have open selections of homework, seems to cut down on tote learning.

Posted: August 18, 2015

Very approachable staff & administration . Generally , teachers here are willing to make changes & not stuck on any teaching strategy that's not working.

E. Rivers has amazing teachers and a dedicated principal. We have had such a wonderful experience at this school!!!

Our daughter went to Rivers for 5 years, love the staff and it is truly a neighborhood school. She had some amazing teachers and the principal knew her by her first name, which is different than my experience at Sara Smith right now. My education experience at Rivers is on par or exceeds what I have now at Sara Smith.

We love this school. The community is warm and enthusiastic, the teachers and administrators are focused on giving all the students the best education and experience possible, and the kids are wonderful individuals, each unique and appreciated for who he or she is.

We have 3 children at E. Rivers, and our oldest will graduate this year. We were sold on E. Rivers after talking to other parents in our neighborhood, many of whom sent their oldest to private schools and now wish they had started them all at E. Rivers. It was the best decision we ever made. The quality of education is excellent. Our children have have developed a love for learning thanks to the incredibly talented teachers, most of which hold advanced degrees. The Principal, Matt Rogers, has done an excellent job ensuring only the very best teachers get hired. He gets it! Also, the new building is going to be state-of-the-art. We're lucky to have such a wonderful neighborhood school!

My daughter has been going to E Rivers for 3 years now and we are very pleased with the level and quality of education, the staff and the facility. It is one of the best schools in Atlanta.

This is a great school! My son has been going there since kindergarten and now he is in Forth grade! He loves it. The teachers are great! We are so excited about the new school almost being done! Can't wait for my two years old to go there!!

We have two daughters at E Rivers. We love the community, administration, and staff there. Both of our kids are thriving and we have been very impressed with the quality of the instructors. They are very enthusiastic about school and learning. The parent involvement and support is amazing. This school will only get better, particularly after the new campus is completed.

Last summer, I moved from North Buckhead (Sarah Smith) to South Buckhead (E Rivers) and our entire family (2 kids included) couldn t be happier with E Rivers. Everyone has gone out of their way to make us feel welcome. Even though Sarah Smith is a great school, I have to say that level of parent involvement in E Rivers truly amazing and far more impactful then I observed at Sarah Smith. I was worried that we were sacrificing education quality for a better location/more convenience by living in Peachtree Hills but now we have the best of both worlds!

I went to school here from kindergarten through 5th grade. Charles Arter and David York were the principals at that time, the mid to late 1970's. I loved this school and always felt that the staff and other school personell cared for the students
