If you want your child in a safe environment, have an administration that actually cares for students instead of trying to penalize them for everything and anything, learn nothing as teachers, teaching method is passive, not active, stay away from this school.

I had 4 prior children go through this school and wouldn’t recommend it to anyone. The staff doesn’t address issues going on in the classroom and a huge majority of the students aren’t motivated or have clear goals. They are more worried about whose house they will be at drinking or smoking the upcoming weekend. Spoiled and entitled atmosphere and their school test scores show.

I was a student here and like all students- I had my struggles. But the support I found from teachers and faculty was genuine and beyond what I imagine most high schoolers experience. With my child slated to attend SHS in a few years, I couldn’t feel more at peace with her most formative years in their hands.

We are on our 2nd child attending Sequoyah and will have our 3rd there next year. Overall it's a great place with plenty of teachers willing to work with the students. There are plenty of high quality extra-curricular activities including one of the best Choral programs in the State. One of our children is very academic oriented, graduated from Sequoyah with college credit, and has been very successful at college. Our second child couldn't care less about academics. Yet, the teachers continue to pull him in, communicate with us, and they try to find ways for him to be successful.

The Covid environment over the past two years exposes great schools like Sequoyah. I would read were schools across the Country and even in our own State were having problems getting teachers to work. Not Sequoyah. Our children nearly always had their normal teachers in person, in the class room.

1st off the administraters are problem finders not problem solvers. This school on the outside looks good and taken care of, but when you walk in theres dead roaches bathrooms are always destroyed. half the stuff doesnt work. Most of the teachers are cool and actually care about the students while others ont even grade assignments. Please parents do not send your children here this school will tear them down and not build them back up.

Terrible. The school only pushes conformity to rules and causes great distress in students. The students do not enjoy their experience and the school is overall ineffective in preparing students for the future.

This is an EXCELLENT high school. Because of the education my daughters received there, they have gone on to pursue their careers with a solid foundation.

Both of my daughters graduated from Sequoyah High School. The teachers did a great job laying a foundation for them to build careers. The teachers were full of compassion for the students and passion for their subjects. It wasn't always easy, but my daughters were given rigor and joy with their teachers.

Most of the students come from families that give them a strong moral compass, and as a result, the students are pretty decent people.

Their approach to homework is very effective, the teachers assign the perfect amount of homework so that you can still do after school activities such as sports and hanging out with friends.

The teachers here make sure that you understand the lessons in various ways. They always keep you on your feet. They give activities to help us better understand the ciriculum.

It depends on the severity of the case. If its he said she said stuff they dont take it as seriously. But if its life threatening, cyber bullying, and physical violence, etc, they treat that very seriously.

I would rate my experience a 10/10! Best school i have ever been too. I have moved around a lot and i can honestly say that it is my number one school. The teachers are repectful. You are treated like a young adult and are expected to act a certain way. You are responsible for your own work and actions. They dont baby you, they expect you to know what you have to do and act. They give you a lot of opprotunities to have amazing high school expeirences such as field trips, clubs, and sports.

Sometimes, the teachers would assign tasks that took more time than they gave you. However most of the times that a simple homework was assigned it was fair.

The teachers did not give off a vibe of "teacher" but rather "babysitter", some teachers even flirted with students! On the bright-side some teahers were somewhat helpful .

First things first, the only reason why I was happy to leave my home and go to school was because school was a friendlier environment than my home, HOWEVER I am not saying that school was the best place to be. The only reason why I was happy in Sequoyah High School was because of the amazing friends I met there. It wasn't because of the teachers or the staff in general. I think there were very few employees at that school that were likable. The second problem I constantly ran into whenever I walked into a restroom there was ALWAYS (And I'm not exaggerating when I say always) someone smoking/ vaping and threatening to do something if you said anything.

If no one truthfully says it, then I will. Sequoyah High School is not a good school, maybe everyone's experience is different, but I KNOW FOR A FACT the things I had to deal with were bullying, bad teachers ( horrible), not a healthy environment, drugs, and there was just a lot of bad things going on. The school could honestly care less about anything, the teachers would hardly teach but through worksheets and packets at you and tests and quizzes the next day. The teachers I GOT when they would stand at the board and point their finger and say write this down, and that was the lesson of the day. I did not like the fact that after a long hard day of school I would have to come home to like 8 hrs of homework which I had NO time for and my learning needs were different, so I struggled a lot more and did anyone help, nope. I tried to get my schedule changed to leave some issues I was having in lunch period, and all I got was a sorry it sucks you can't change your schedule. So this school isn't a good school. If you want to send your kid to a school FULL OF drugs, bullying, harassment, bad teachers, lousy learning environment, AND A BAD ENVIRONMENT OVERALL go ahead. Tell me how it goes.

Sequoyah high school is one the best in Cherokee county.. We are 40th best school in the state of Georgia.. Yes, some teachers get lazy but There is so many teacher that really care about the student's. The principal is one the best over all.. They deserve 10 stars!!

This school is really bad I have a math teacher that ignored me and the administration claims they have camera's but they don't use them because they care less about the students. The school is filled with rednecks that dip everywhere. You have people who try to vandalize other people's cars and try to lift them.this school claims to be top in the nation but they don't show it with the teachers they hired. This school is nothing good there are some good teachers but not a lot I have a teacher that ignores me for no reason. Most departments don't care for students they talk to them saying to do better and nothing about it. if you have to go this school move fast because I will tell you we are not the top rated school here I would rather go to ace then go here or just die from bleach.

Basically the Advanced Placement teachers and students are the ones that keep the school winning awards. Outside of that pocket, the students and teachers generally don't care. There are maybe two kids per grade that aren't white and a lot of racial jokes are thrown their way. Class sizes are already maxed out and the 4+ new neighborhoods going in in the district are not going to help things. The county presented the school the old middle school building to solve issues but it is a good 5-7 minute walk from Sequoyah and won't be able to be used for a couple of years.

About a third of the teachers are fantastic!!! They are the ones that keep this school afloat and they know it!!! However, most do not take an interest in our children and are more interested in pushing papers, the next luncheon (Lord knows you do NOT want to forget to take in something someone was counting on!) or teacher appreciation day. The "Administration" is abominable!! Mr. Burnam needs to go. The kids and staff do not respect him and he takes his vitriol out on parents. He and the staff have no "partnering" attitude toward parents. It's very clear that it will be "their way" unless you get an IEP or leverage somehow. I'm a solution finder. The Administration of this school is a problem finder. It's sad. Other schools that don't have the distinction this one has are SO MUCH NICER and BETTER to deal with! That's why my youngest will NOT be attending Sequoyah! We are suppose to be in this together.

There are a few incredible teachers, but most either lack the ability to teach or the drive to care. What makes the school bad however, isn't the teachers (or the students), It's the administration. They do not do anything remotely productive. They basically sit around and limit teachers who seek to do anything that may inconvenience them (aka order updated textbooks). Our principal is also incompetent and cares little for anything other than saving money and watching our pitiful football team. If you're stuck going to school near here, go to Creekview.

I was a student at Sequoyah from 2008-2010. I would like to begin by saying that this school is probably just like every other public school, all they care about is test scores, and you are not an individual by any means. You may get lucky and have a few teachers that actually care about their jobs and take an interest in your education. Unfortunately, the math team for the most part do not seem to care whether you are there or not, they give you the work, do not explain it, and you are left to scratch your head and try your best to pass your class. The teachers are rude, they do not have respect for the students, and do not feel they should have to. They are bigger and better than you and what they say goes. I was on my own completely. I was in the counselors office regularly for about 2 weeks. I was written up and given ISS, for not getting back to class after my APPOINTMENT with the counselor fast enough for my teachers liking. I was talking to them about alternatives because this school was poisoning my need for education. Needless to say, I didn't come back one day. School is there to ensure the success of the child, not to be what ensures their failure.

I just called the school in an attempt to get information on enrolling my son and spoke with the secretary in the Registrar's Office, WOW, talking about rude and unhelpful. As soon as I mentioned that we are considering moving into the school district from overseas her attitude changed completely! There's NO WAY I would ever consider putting my child into the Cherokee County School District now! Talking about discrimination...not a chance!

Both of my children have attended SHS. What a GREAT school! Administration & teachers are always available. Extra curricular activities are managed properly. There is a tremendous amount of parental involvement. Not a negative word to say about this school.

My daughter is a freshman and this is our first year in Cherokee Co. I have had a great experience with her teachers, which is more than I can say for our previous experience in City of Decatur. I have only spoken with the Principal's office recently and found Mrs. Butterworth very informative and helpful. So far we have a very positive outlook on the school and administration.

The school is great - PTA does a wonderful job. The administration is less than extraordinary. I read the other comments and agree, the administrator (specifically the principal) is useless and very uncaring. SHS its seems to be time for a change...

My son really enjoys SHS. Go Chiefs! However Mr. Berman the principal and his assistant Ms. Butterworth leave a lot to be desired. They are not very nice and seem to have lost there compassion for there job.

The teachers are great. The principal and his assistants not that great. If you need to meet with him or his assistants best of luck. You are not a priority to them. They are always unvailable and do not return phone calls. My daughter likes the school and she has commented the principal and his staff are invisible don't bother going to them for anything. They always look irritated.

I absolutely hat this school! All they care about is there reputation but not the kids themselves! I a student, the one who goes there everyday has not yet see my principle nor knows his name! That shows you how much hes involved in our school socially! Don't get me started on the counselors! Ok, so I just moved here tow months after school stared and I was not put in the right classes and im still not in my right classes. They stuck me in wherever there was room. Now because im not in my proper classes im failing all my classes. If not failing than just about! I swear this school only cares about the fast learning students and not the ones who are a little bit slower. Now im stuck here in this school! Witch honestly feels like a torture chamber! This is the WORST school I have ever been to!
