We have had a fantastic experience at East Cobb Middle School and would absolutely recommend it to other families. Our son is in AP classes, plays sports, and has thrived both academically and socially. The teachers genuinely care about their students and do a great job challenging them while also providing support.

Our family is very active with the PTA, and we've found the school to be welcoming and collaborative. Like any middle school, there are occasional middle school antics, but we've never experienced anything serious. In my opinion, you get out of the school what you put into it. Parents who stay engaged and communicate with teachers will find a supportive school community.

One of the things we appreciate most is the diversity of the student body and the dedication of the teachers and staff. They work hard to create an environment where students can succeed both inside and outside the classroom. Overall, East Cobb Middle School has been an excellent experience for our family.

I really do like East Cobb Middle School. I find it ten times better than my elementary school, and they make learning for me easier and more understandable. Most students here are pretty nice, as long as you don't start or get into drama with other kids. However, I'd make sure to study a little bit more for the Beacons and the Milestones. Otherwise, make sure to treat your peers and teachers well and they will return your behavior!
Would recommend 90%!

We absolutely love this school. I have twins who go there, and they absolutely love school. They love their teachers, their friends (and each have very different group of friends), and their extracurricular activities. Their teachers are absolutely wonderful - they love those kids and make them feel loved. If there are any typical middle school issues, they are ready to intervene and involve parents if necessary. We also love the connections and music programs. Because of their class structure and the building layout, they do not feel overwhelmed by the size.

The only issue I have - and this is county wide - is that because everything is electronic now (homework, lessons, etc.), I don't necessarily know what they're learning in each class b\c there are no longer textbooks, etc. to bring home.

This is my daughter's first year at ECMS (6th grader), and our experience has been fantastic! My daughter absolutely loves it herethe teachers are caring and create a positive and engaging learning environment. As a parent, I appreciate how the school keeps us well-informed and maintains open, transparent communication, and consistently asks for feedback on areas that can be improved. It's clear they are dedicated to their students' success!

I have NEVER loathed a school as much as I do ECMS. Middle School is not the greatest experience regardless of where you go BUT this school was probably featured as one of Blake's many purgatories, definitely one of the ones closest to Hades. The school practices toxic positivity. Bullying seems to be MORE rampant here than even many truancy, inner city Atlanta Public Schools I worked in as a social worker. Many, many, many fights go on at this school. There's vast miscommunication or no communication amongst the administration, staff, parents, and students. I think most of the teachers are good but are stifled by the lack of support and your child will be hard pressed to learn over the highly, undisciplined students that seem to take the classrooms hostage. I am at a loss to find anything I genuinely like about the school besides a few of the teachers.

My advice if you have a child that is kind, sensitive, learning focused then you may wish to seek another solution like homeschooling, which I did for my child's 7th grade year and would have continued if I knew ECMS was as horrible as it is, Cobb Online School, consider any of the school choice option schools that offer a space, or the area private schools if you can afford it.

This school barely gives students education and this school is not very safe. Many kids in this school get suspended. They cannot improve this school. That is why my parents are moving to make me to go to a better school.

for anyone looking to send your child to this school, please do not. I attended the school 6th-8th grade and from first hand experience, the staff does not care about the students in anyway. It doesnt matter if your white, black, hispanic, boy/girl. If you come to them with a problem they will put zero effort into trying to help. There are clear behavioral issues with a majority with the students, but if the staff were to show them just a little bit of trust, im almost certain they would change:
During one school year the school would come up with all sorts of steam/creative projects for all of us to do. We would get to go outsize, make things as a class and my classmates and I had so much fun doing it. We were encouraged to take lots of pictures of our activities and they would put our projects, or whatever we were doing on the wall. We ended up getting STEM certified for all our creations too. The next school year, we didnt do any projects, activities, or crafts. It took a minute to realize it was because we were already STEM certified, and that was all the school cared about, and since we already were, they didnt want to put in the effort for any more activities for the students.
There were also times where i was struggling with bullying from kids in my classes and reached out for help. I went to the vice principal and sent her an informative email about my issue and asked if I could switch classes. Three weeks later, she never responded. I went to my guidance counselor and they turned me over to another person for help. When I went to the third person, they basically told me to suck it up and push through the year.
I never felt safe in the environment ecms offered and would never recommend going there.

horrible school. the teachers are really sweet and care about the students, but the students are extremely disrespectful and rude to eachother as well as teachers. students have been extremely antisemetic and rascist and very violent with eachother. students dont get a lot of help when asked for it by their staff either.

I hope this review helps anyone looking at the CCSD. Here was my experience attending this school. I feel as a black women, me and my black peers were discriminated against by white staff multiple times.

Dress Code: There is a clear problem with dress code targeting young girls, especially black girls. I remember being dress coded one time for wearing shorts that were half an inch above the knee, but I had already worn these shorts to school many times and never got dress coded before. I remember going in the ISS room and only seeing black girls. The white staff members would go out of their way too embarrass black girls by taping the holes in their jeans with duck tape because it was "too reveling". White kids would rarely be dress coded, and they would wear the same things.

Advanced classes: I was never in an advanced class, I was always placed in the on level classes. There was a CLEAR separation of white kids being in the advanced classes and students of color being in on level classes. My 8th grade math teacher would always tell my class that the advanced kids were better than our class. She did this as a way to motivate us to start behaving. Weird tactic to make 13 year old's feel inferior.

Mental Heath: There has to be more than one counselor to help over 500+ kids. That's just unacceptable. I did not feel supported at all by the counseling center and had friends who felt the same. Teacher never noticed the kids who were struggle and only paid attention to the "good" kids. Little support over all was offered to help me and my peers.

Hopefully East Cobb Middle AND Cobb County has changed a lot since I left, but please consider who should be working at ECMS. Overall, I felt as if the staff was working against me instead of with me. I learned nothing while I was there, and wish that chapter of my life never happened. This is one of the worst school in Cobb County, and I still believe that. Please do not consider this review as being bitter, but as a way to help improve diversity and inclusivity in the CCSD.

Ms Young's "Positivity" message pervades everything. There are lots of ways kids are encouraged into GOOD behavior (rep points etc) and also discouraged from bad behavior (fights are automatically referred to law enforcement - this has cut down fights and bullying drastically)

Ms Young (principal) is AMAZING. She has a great team too. All are very responsive to all concerns. They are very effective at helping disadvantaged kids and improving "equity" within the school by ensuring that all kids get help whether disadvantaged, whatever color, etc.

Great experience with both my kids - a little too much homework in 6th grade with my son, but as soon as I alerted everyone to the issue it was sorted out. Other issues have been handled very well by all concerned. Also the school is now a brand new building, its beautiful

My student has been at ECMS for 2 years. He has struggled because of learning differences, but the teachers and staff have made so much effort to support him.

A situation arose in a classroom and during lunch where he was being mistreated. He told me about it and when I passed it along, the teachers responded immediately. Unfortunately, the kids who were disciplined knew who'd "told on the them," which meant my son was now being completely ignored.

My son was bullied all of 6th grade and up until recently in 7th grade. I was only notified of issues when my son told me and never contacted by school. When I started requesting my own meeting with the principal and other personnel, they started trying to keep me informed. He was punched in the stomach and crawled in the classroom. He and the student didn't even know each other. There are so many stories... smh I put him in Tae Kwon Do for more self confidence. We will be homeschooling next year because I'm done... I don't want my son to harm anyone or commit suicide.
