I have had such an amazing experience at Murdock Elementary! Such a sweet school with small classroom sizes and excellent direct communication with the teachers. I now have 5th, 3rd and K and couldnt be happier.

I really didn't like my experience! The school doesn't have good communication between school and parents.

My daughter has ADHD, her teaching was horrible, and the feedback was never specific. And they decided to take action in the last week of school. I was surprised and disappointed.

I once read that if your child's performance is average to excellent, Murdock is a great school, but if they're average to poor, it's terrible. And I experienced that firsthand.

My son has attended this school from Kindergarten through 1st grade, and our experience has been wonderful. The teachers and staff are warm, approachable, and genuinely care about the children.

This school is mediocre at best, especially the administration (i.e. the vice principal, principal, front staff). They forget who they are speaking to, and we as the parents are adults and should be spoken to with respect. I had to check the VP the last time I had to deal with her. It was not a pleasant experience but I will not be dictated to and spoken to like a child. They (the teachers and admin.) have no clue how to properly deal with students who have special needs. If your student qualifies for special needs services and is given an IEP, it's practically useless because none of them follow it. You will spend over an hour having a pointless IEP meeting once or twice a year and they do not follow what they themselves have put down on paper. Be sure that you capture all communications with teachers and staff in writing as I have found that they cannot be trusted. Teachers spend way too much time focused on behavior also known as "social-emotional learning" rather than on teaching the basics like reading, writing, math. I had high hopes for this school as we moved to East Cobb specifically for the schools, and thus far have been sorely disappointed.

Although this school is ranked high academically, unfortunately my experience having a child with mild learning issues has been very disappointing and upsetting for our entire family. If your child is more of a gifted or advanced learner, you may be ok. I have one child who is. However, they are not equipped or trained to handle even mild learning difficulties from what we have experienced. This is a classic government school feel so dont let the area and academic scores fool you into thinking it will feel otherwise. There are a few diamond in the rough teachers (we have a great Kindergarten teacher) and the VP is very friendly BUT our overall experience over the past 4 years has been downhill and that is a nice way to say it.

The school has outstanding teachers and they really put the core of the focus on students in the accelerated classes. The front desk and the administrators are very disrespectful towards parents which is unfortunate. Overall the school is great with kids that are advanced but sadly the overall atmosphere at the school is not a pleasant one.

School is concerned with high test scores. If you have a learning disability the school puts effort into kids that are in accelerated classes and not so much into a learning disability>

I would rate this school an 8 over all. The admin doesnt seem super friendly or open, but Ive only had one experience bumping into them. Our Kindergarten teacher had high expectations and got results but could have been more tactful when speaking to me about my child. Our first grade teacher is AMAZING. She values critical thinking, kindness, and creativity.

If you are an out of the box student, it can be challenging. Academics and test scores are more of a concern than the whole child.

For a school of 1,000 students, 0 incidence on the annual report doesnt add up. Parents and students are reporting bullying and is not followed up on or those reporting are blamed. Better to be honest and work towards solutions than cover it up.

I have 7 years of children at the school, the last 1-2 years has been an increasingly negative environment for staff and parents and the effect on students is showing. Parents are increasingly pushed to the sides, except when it comes to fundraising. I hope it turns around for our remaining years and administration improves.

Both of my sons have been well supported by this school. I have never had an issue with the teachers or administration. Families in the school district are highly involved and supportive of the school and help to pay for additional science and technology labs. My kids love their school but more importantly their learning is well supported!

I have had nothing but positive interaction with all parties involved in my son's IEP. The SSA, IRR, SLP, lead teacher, and parapros have all been responsive and engaged.

Two words...Mrs. Hamlet...she is amazing! My son had difficulties adjusting in Kindergarten...she promised to help him get on track and now he has blossomed to a role model student...I am forever grateful to her for her patience, understanding, and flexibility.

This school is beyond amazing and I could not have imagined my boys going to a better school. They are extremely supportive when it comes to children with learning challenges and I couldn't disagree more with the poor reviews. I have two very active boys (one who has an IEP) and the teachers have worked tireslessly to ensure that they succeed. They all care about them and I couldn't be happier about my decision to enroll them at Murdock.

The school does not deal with bullying. They lie about it and hide it from the parents. My daughter was hit in the face and school blatantly lied to me about how it happened and then tried to make my daughter seem like a liar.

The schools front office is ran terribly. The principal does not care about students or parents. I tried to get the principal involved and they were no where to be found. Not even a call back. I would recommend any other school.

Nine years ago I wrote a glowing review of Murdock Elementary as our first child began kindergarten. Now after three principals, several staff changes, and a second child getting ready for middle school, Murdock continues to be an excellent school. The staff and teachers are dedicated, kind, innovative, attentive, and professional. Both our children, one special needs, one general ed (and they never had the same teachers!) received excellent educational foundations at Murdock. We have loved the diversity, the academic and social encouragement, and the neighborhood feel of this school. After nine years we are glad we chose Murdock.

There's always some degree of bullying at every school level....most kids honestly need to toughen up and parents need to realize that dealing with the bulk of this is home issue...not school. It's nonsense stuff mostly. Someone googled my Ex's home and told my daughter they couldn't be friends with her because her house was too small! This kind of nonsense comes from some pretentious parents. My daughter was in tears until she went back the next day and told the girl that unlike her her parents owned 70 houses as rentals but that they could still be friends if she wanted. Classic....the girls are still friends several years later. My son has been on the other side of it...as the aggressor. The school and after school program worked with us to get him straight!

My son had an early speech impediment and went to speech class for his 1st 2 years at school. He improved dramatically in that time period and no longer needs assistance. We have several other friends with kids with learning disabilities and all have been pleased with how the school has worked with them.

I'm active in the school and in coaching basketball....watching these kids develop over time is impressive to say the least. My kids grew tremendously being a part of this school's program.

Murdock has an incredible staff with very strong parent involvement and support. Very strong advanced learning opportunities here. The principal here is deeply involved in the school as is the rest of her staff. My son started here and is doing very well...the results speak for themselves....same with my daugher who is now in middle school but attended here. Top student and very well rounded from attending Murdock

For the most part the teachers are fantastic. The principal on the other hand is mostly defensive and not helpful and sets the tone for the rest of the administration that follows her lead. Instead of finding solutions to issues the administration will cover things up and usually just be defensive about everything. The answer is usually you can't do that instead of this is what you need to do. Its not hard to just be honest, transparent, and be a leader that provides solutions. This is not politics,,, its education,,,

Murdock Elementary is a great school! Both of my kids had a wonderful experience Kindergarten - 5th grade. The principal is great and the teachers work hard to ensure student success. My kids worked hard but had a blast.

My daughter went there for 1 year, terrible experience. Told the Principal about on ongoing teacher problem that she kept promising she'd handle. Never did. An honor student and loving school when she entered the school, a year later an honor student and hating school. Thankfully we found a great private school.

I just love this school, everyone is very nice and patient. I am looking forward to the next 4 years. I like the way the school is set up and I love ASP. I just couldn't be happier. The principal is wonderful. I know my child is in good hand!

We couldn't be happier at Murdock. Our child loves it there and especially loves Ms. Smith in fourth grade. The classrooms are organized, quiet and the children in general are well behaved. The school is well run and we have no complaints thus far.

The Principal is a "smile in your face" and do the exact opposite type of woman. The atmosphere is cold. The specialty (science and accelerated) teachers were good...but the regular were pretty hateful. It's a very click-ish bunch. The program isn't great (Cobb boasts) my child was a transfer student and pretty much repeated the work from the year before.

Very disappointed in the faculty. Beware of the smiles and friendliness, their all fake. My children have been at Murdock for 1.5 years and I can honestly say that up until now I had not gotten a direct contact with the staff. Now that I have I don't like what I am noticing. The school has a great education program, but thats the only thing good. My daughter is autistic and I would NOT recommend sending your children to this school. They give you a very hard time with autistic children. They don't teach them or treat them great either. The people in the front office are great but also the principle is a liar. She practically makes up stories just to take the attention off of the school and I do feel they are a lil racist although they can't seem so blatantly. My kids do get treated differently and bullied at the school but I tried my best just to reach out for a better situation . I am looking elsewhere for my children come the next school year.

Exceptional teachers and exceptional school. My son went to Mrs. Eubanks and Mrs.Moulds class in kindergarten and Mrs. Kastner's class in first grade......they are role model teachers to begin elementary years.The Principal is actively involved with day to day activities and the front office are very helpful......we have to move out of the country but not even a single day passes without thinking of Murdock in the morning......excellent school to begin your kids education.

My daughter started Kindergarten at Murdock this year and I couldn't be happier. Her teachers are wonderful, they focus on teaching and paying attention to each child. I couldn't be any happier! The whole staff is just wonderful and focused and so is the PTA. Love it!

I feel that if your child fits into Murdock mold they will do fine. They focus on test scores and if that is important to you than Murdock is the place for you. If you are looking for your child to have a diverse education look elsewhere.

My son loves going to this school. The teacher enforces good conduct which is required for learning. Teacher is very responsive to our requests and keeps us updated on sons progress. I am very glad to be in this school area. Highly recommend it.

This is an excellent school.I could not ask for more when we moved to Atlanta. The personnel is amazing. If you send your kids to that school you should make sure that you have done a great decission.

Our third child just started Kindergarten this year, and we are so thrilled to live in the Murdock district! We like the school so much that, when we decided to look for a similar house than the one we had, but with a basement, we ONLY looked in the Murdock area. My son has aspergers, and I cannot say enough good things about their program for special needs. He has made enormous progress over the years, and specialist we know was very impressed with the way his IEP was written. Besides the great education that our children are receiving (which is common in East Cobb), there is a lot of parent involvement in school activities. My children have had different teachers with different styles throughout the years, and so far they have done a good job in putting them in classes with a teacher that would enhance their abilities, while being conscious of their individual potential. The facilities are fantastic, and every time I have been to the school everything looked very clean, even in the back of the house areas.

I attended Murdock when I was elementary school and my experience was amazing! Especially when I moved into Murdock in second grade, they organized a special day for me to go there for one day and see if I like it and I have created some of my best memories there, and all the staff have taught me valuable life lessons!
