Would completely recommend a private school. Some teachers are nice, others just don't care, and others care too much acting like their job is a Jail Warden, or even as far as a drill sergeant. Teachers constantly overload students with new packets and projects daily that students can't keep on with. The county's constant and excessive ban on numerous websites, even brain-stimulating games such as New York Time's Wordle or Connections constantly lessens student's moral throughout the day, students need a break, and a 20 minute break isn't enough for that. We are expected to work all day long, then when we get home, and if we don't, students such as myself take the punishment which comes with turning in 'late' work. How can all 7 teachers expect for students to put their class's homework as a priority, then when they turn in work a day late, they get points off.

Onto my second point, the use of vapes, and drugs. Classes and bathrooms constantly smell of MARIJUANA, or of the various vape flavors. Teachers and Administrators could be doing so much more than what they do to 'enforce' the law.

I am the parent of a rising senior who has been at Lakeside all years, including through COVID. School is what your teenager makes of it. My kid has had a great learning experience at Lakeside, more opportunity than where we used to live in another state. At Lakeside there is an opportunity for students who like to learn to choose AP or IB curricula. We have a motivated and engaged teen who is interested in learning so both AP and IB options have been excellent. The IB teachers do care about your kid and challenge them to think critically. The band program and other clubs my kid participates in are enjoyable and motivated my child to learn or do different things outside of school and make new friends.

In reading the other negative comments....High school is what your kid makes of it. There are the obvious things that happen in most high schools, public and private: smoking/vaping, fights, cliques, bullying, mean girls, cheating, etc. That's life. Parents have a responsibility to help their kids make good choices. Schools have a responsibility to provide opportunities. If kids don't make the right choices given the opportunities it doesn't make it a bad school. The administration here does care and communicates effectively, and have tried different policies to curb smoking etc. My kid's counselor has been really supportive when needed. It is a large school so for some kids they may get lost in the crowd. My kid hasn't had great teachers 100% of the time all 4 years but I would say 80% of the time we have been pleased with the quality of the teaching, especially in IB. I asked my kid-- they would choose Lakeside again given the opportunities -- which makes me happy to recommend it to others.

Lakeside High School offers AP and IB classes. Special Education services lack accountability and implementation. The school building is overcrowded; however, it is under construction to add classrooms. Safety is relative to other schools in the county.

We had a nice experience at this school, thanks to its demanding programs our children today are enjoying success in the medical field. Lakeside's tests scores were top in Georgia and were the razon we moved from NY and settle near this school 20 years ago. Still today Lakeside's students are getting great education and many of them are ready for college and ready por nice professional careers. We are a hispanic family and we knew this is a demanding school and we had to do and extra work, It did work.
Lakeside is a great school but is not perfect and is not for everybody, but it is worth to try to succeed in such a challenging school.

I've only been within this school district for a few months and I hate it. The school is really disorganized when it comes to literally anything. Teachers are made aware of any last minute changes until the very last second and the wifi goes down several times a day and hasn't been resolved despite hundreds of complaints.

I graduated in 2019 and I really loved this school. The Band is awesome, the A.P. teachers are really good, the clubs and facilities as well. I'm glad I went to Lakeside.

My experience at Lakeside has been pretty decent. It's just your average suburban high school. It's better than the other schools in the county. The band program is amazing and the biggest organization at the school. Most teachers care about how well you are doing, and always make sure you are not falling behind. The entire math department does a thing where if you do better on the test over a subject over the quiz, your quiz grade gets replaced with your test grade, and for the nine weeks test, your grade on that can bring up your bad test grades. The only thing bad about Lakeside is their scheduling, every student, has at least one thing wrong with their schedule on the first day, lasting into the second week. Also, the hallways are incredibly overcrowded and the car rider line is a disaster if you get there after the buses, so get there at about 7 in the morning every day. You need to have your ID every day and you have to wear it at all times. If you don't have it on when you walk in the school they will stop you and make you put it on, or if you don't have it you have to go to a separate entrance to get a sticker for the day, sometimes the second entrance isn't opened yet, or is incredibly backed up, so if its winter or raining you have to wait in the cold, or rain until you can get a temporary ID. All in all, it's fun if you make it fun.

If you're in non-gifted classes most of those teachers are pretty lax when it comes to homework, but on the other side with the AP and IB kids, you'll have tones of homework just because of how the programs are set up.

It's widely known here that the foreign language and freshman/sophomore biology departments are not as good as they could be. Other than those two departments my experience has been really good, the only teacher who was HORRIBLE who wasn't included above was fired. Thee teachers usually do a good job making sure you understand something and if you don't most teachers will help you or give you an opportunity to make things up.

The admin is mostly absent except when they want to yell to you about the dress code or stop you by the entrance if you're not wearing an ID. The guidance department is a complete mess, almost every student last year had a messed up schedule or on the first day were missing classes, I had two band classes and no science, and the only way to get anything guidance related is to have your parent call the front office, not the actual guidance counselor.

If you are not gifted, AP, or IB you are on the "bad" part of the huge divide at Lakeside. The main focus is on the "smart" kids because they make Lakeside look good. You are definitely looked down upon if you are not in those groups.

There's minimal bullying at Lakeside, at least to people's faces, all you have to do is find your group and you will be fine. Most people are extremely nice to you if you act like a normal human being and not obnoxious.

I hate it as a parent and my child barely likes it. We know several unhappy families but are zoned for this school. I don't know how this school has the rating they do because they are way off scale of it and I must wonder who really gave surveys to get them this rating but also see no survey done w in a couple years so here is a recent one.....as a parent i say RUN!

A few teachers are awesome but a lot seem to be there for the wrong reasons and if you have a child w learning disabilities at all dont send them here. This was a HUGE mistake of mine and my child went from good grades to failing instantly. Had meetings and admin thinks they know more about your child than you do.

Hello to all. I am a rising senior at Lakeside High and for the most part I would say my experiences haven't been as horrendous as others. BUT that shouldn't suggest Lakeside is perfect because it is far from it. First, it is incredibly crowded. Often times I feel bull dozing through is the best way to get to class on time. I was thinking maybe expanding would lessen the traffic in between classes but my fellow students would probably still find a way to clog the hallways or any walkway.
Second, the administration isn't quite there. The females in particular seem to be more concerned about the dress code than anything else. I guess even that isn't enough because I still see attire that is inappropriate for school. If it is that big of a deal just give us uniforms.
Third, priorities are out of whack. I'm pretty sure I would get written up for wearing a dress that shows my back over talking back to a teacher. They're almost as linient as the Middle School when it comes to certain issues but not to the same ludicrous degree.
The school isn't bad it just needs work. I know there are far worse schools out there. And honestly I really hate to be the one to tell them how to do their jobs BUT could you all, please, do a far better job. That would be very much appreciated.

Lakeside HighSchool mhmm.... One of the smallest and overcrowded schools in Columbia county. I don't know why but students from Greenbrier (a bigger school) are being rezoned to lakeside where there is absolutely no space. I hardly get to class on time because of all the traffic. Academically, it's alright some teachers just don't care they just try to get through the week. Sports, the only cared about sport is football I feel that everyone's money goes to fundraising football. I am a basketball cheerleader here and we get nothing. All we do is pay a $250 booster fee which I'm sure they used on that new granite countertop in concession. Teachers who volunteer to be coaches don't care because they just want the extra cash. They had a snack shack last year it got tons of business...it had everything you needed (not only snacks) it was shut down because it wasn't allowed anymore. Administration, it's improved. Fights, hardly any ... Any fight can occur in a arrest, iss, oss, expelling, alternative school. Lunch, horrible unhealthy food, the only thing healthy is the salad which is shared with ham and I don't eat ham. Try to make food experiments: burger meat is used as teriyaki chicken, steak, any thing that's brown. Guidance, takes times doing everything . Office, women in the office are extremely rude and don't get to school until after it starts. Principal, great, some administrators share favoritism over students. Gym phew they give you a workout.....girls locker room is like 10 times smaller then the men's.... Girls locker room showers are used for storage. Foreign languages, the young teachers are the worst teachers. School doesn't know how to use money instead of using it on granite countertops and football they need to use it on books and to build another part of the school so I wouldn't be so crowded. Court yard, was really nice until students carved things into tables only seniors are allowed out there during lunch but I still go out anyways. We need field trips so we could widen our learning experience. I highly recommend another school and I'm a sophomore at lakeside.

As parents, we are appalled at the poor condition of the school building, especially relative to schools our children have attended in relatively affluent areas of other states. This is the only place we have lived that did not have a school orchestra. Math instruction is very poor and there are no math textbooks. Teachers put too much emphasis on group projects and other busy work that really isn't useful in preparing students for college.

My daughter goes to Lakeside and she loves it! The JROTC program is one of the best I've seen. She's going into the 10th grade this year and I wouldn't have her going to anyother school. I'm buying a house here just to keep her in this school district. We moved from Richmond County and the difference between the two districts with schools is like night and day. I'd highly recommend Lakeside High School and middle school for that matter.

This was my son's first year there, at Lakeside. He entered at 9th grade and he loves it. The teachers are very good and they worked with me to make sure my son transitioned smoothly since we moved from another state. His teachers are very good about keeping in touch with you. I would recommend this school.

Lakeside is not the most excellent school, but compared to most schools, it excels academically and bullying is not really very much of a problem. As for the comment about the "too much Christianity" in the school: It is probably not right for teachers to push their religion. But, for administration to stop bible teaching and prayer groups would not be right either. We Christians usually aren't hostile or anything to students of other religions at the school, and as long as the teachers aren't pushing Christianity to the Muslim students, then I think there is not much of a problem. But if people feel that there is a problem, then they should form their own religious club too, like Fishers of Men, except not Christian.

I would definitely take these opinions with a grain of salt. Obviously, there's no way to please everyone and someone will always feel slighted. I, personally, like Lakeside High and so do my two children who attend there. It's not perfect, but I can see that some people on here do not know how bad a school really can be. We are lucky and privileged to have knowledgeable and caring teachers (for the most part), excellent sports programs and a very wide variety of clubs and extracurricular activities. Your school and your experience is going to be what you make of it. I read mentions of "pot smokers" and "cliques" I don't know that a high school exists, public or private, without those things. There are troublemakers, mean girls, etc. at any school you attend, but I honestly do not feel that Lakeside has any serious issues with these things (compared to other local schools). My children are happy, honor students, active in sports and clubs, which in turn makes me happy that we chose this specific area to get them into these specific schools (Elementary-High). The cost for sports can be a lot, but only because it's not funded by the county, so not the school's fault.

i am a junior at lakeside high and i do not like it at all. most of the students are terribly disrespectful, especially on the busses. i would rather walk barefoot on razorblade-covered streets thean deal with the amount of disrespect and disgusting attitudes on those busses. students are emotionless and remorseless when it comes to bullying. they will eat you alive. just the piercing stares of the student are enough to make you want to turn around and walk right back out. also, the administration is awful. they do nothing to prevent or stop bullying. they all choose favorites and leave the other students to fend for themselves. they treat us like children and when blamed for something, dont give you the time of day to prove your innocence. the school itself is also awful. there isnt even a cafeteria and the whole school is infested with bugs. the traffic is also a huge problem. there is one way in and one way out of the school parking lots with middle school traffic and high school traffic combined. the students also take no regard when driving, so i would look out. this school is terrible. as a student here i recommend you find another school if youre considering coming here.
