Our son graduated from River Ridge. WE HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS SCHOOL! The staff of teachers is one of the best in the area. Soccer coaches Phil Thomas and Mathew Rice are the best soccer coaches. Thank you to all teachers to make experience for our son memorable and joyful.

I have had 2 children go through RRHS and both had exceptional experiences. They were very different types of students and learners, but both had positive high school careers. They both felt supported by the teachers and coaches.

The rating for this school is absolutely inflated and absurd. This school does not provide any college readiness. The schoolwork here is very easy and my children barely have homework!! I wish they would create some academic rigor because there is absolutely none here.. Please don't take your children here!! AVOID. AVOID. AVOID.

We have had 2 children go through River Ridge High School. They are both very different learners and types of students and RRHS met their needs and all the staff was supportive and helpful. Both kids also played sports at RRHS. We found all the coaches to be wonderful and all really cared about the students.

The school has not reached the 21st century yet when it comes to respect and equality for all races. The discipline for calling African American students the N word in the year 2022 only results in a one day suspension, a simple slap on the wrist. I’m assuming the facility concerns of minority students feeling safe and comfortable at school is non existent

I have been so pleased with the teachers and administration at RRHS. My daughter truly enjoys school and has truly loved so many of her teachers. They have been supportive, engaging, and genuinely cared about their students. The athletic programs are also wonderful. She played JV and Varsity sports and the coaches were wonderful. We have had such a positive experience at RRHS.

Hit or miss. Some students have no homework ever and some are bombarded Regardless of AP, Honors, or remedial level.

There are a select few teachers that are really good at their job and genuinely care. The vast majority are just trying to get through the day and improve the “reputation” and “sports rankings” with little regard for actual education.

With documented proof, bullying is allowed to continue and disrupt the learning environment. Nothing is done and there is a racial fear among the administration to punish kids of varrying ethnicity for fear of them playing a race card.

This varies greatly by the teacher. We have had teachers hand out packets of 'work' for classwork and homework that they call 'teaching'. Also, there are just some teachers that should never have been teachers!!! Homework shouldn't just be 'busy work', there is a difference. But overall, both of my children never had a huge load of homework either that they couldn't handle.

This varies greatly by the teacher as well. Had two children attend here, both four years, with two years apart. There are some great teachers here and there are some not great teachers here!!!

I feel this was lead by the former principal, Mr. Herring in many ways. He was strong on teaching these character ethos at the start, but then it seemed to have gotten somewhat lost. There is only so much one principal can do to have a student develop character. Overall, I think there were good character students here. A lot depends on parenting, it's not the teachers responsibility or the administration to parent the children.

2018-2019 brings a new principal here, so I cannot speak for the new leadership at all. I know the former principal was effective at leadership, but felt some things could have been better. Had some serious issues one year and the leadership was strong in that case and it was handled swiftly and dealt with.

I do not know from personal experience, but I do know they had students with learning differences and they were never singled out from what I heard or saw and were a part of the school as a whole. I believe they also hosted a special olympics day!

I agree, with the previous principal, he dealt with bullying. I think that we live in a time when bullying is everywhere and I felt that if it was brought to their attention, and there was something they could do, that they would do it.

Overall, with six years in this school and two graduates from RRHS, both of my children were college ready, but they could have been even more prepared. Both are well on their way to great careers and higher education now. There used to be strong favoritism within the counselors/students, but I believe that has gone away a couple of years ago. There was also strong favoritism with some coaches (not all) and that is a shame. I feel my children received a fair/good education at RRHS. Had I known what I do now, I may have pushed for a different route with public education as a whole, but I cannot complain too much because I feel the education and experience received was 'a real world experience' and glad both of my kids are now out of the public school system.

Varies from teacher to teacher but my daughter is failing a class because everything in the class is online. The teacher doesn't encourage note taking because "the notes are online".

I've learned that everything nowadays is online, from assignments to homework. Some teachers are starting to heavily depend on online. The thing is a lot of students don't learn effectively through a screen. Sure it's practical, but it's not effective. So to those teacher who depend on online for assignments and homework: What's the point of going to your class if everything is online anyways? From notes, to assignments, to homework? Might as well just do it at home.
On a side note, I realized a lot of staff (not including teachers) really don't care about minorities. If you're not in the sports or cheerleading, you might as well not exist. Someone else mentioned fine arts not being looked at seriously and I wholeheartedly agree. It's really sad fine arts doesn't get the attention of the principal and his lackies as much as sports. If you're gonna have favouritism at least try to hide it. Shameful.
However not all is bad. There are an arsenal of amazing teachers in each department and teacher who are truly passionate. You only gonna hope and pray you get them. These teachers earned the praise my daughter gave them (which says a lot).

Rare cases of bullying occurred during my time at RRHS and they were resolved quickly with disciplinary action and school assemblies.

Most teachers at RRHS are great, however a fair few leave a lot to be desired. The ones who really stand out are the ones who actually put effort into their lessons and connecting with their students whereas others would prefer to play videos and movies rather than engage with their classroom.

RRHS was always very clear on what they expected out of their students. Misbehavior or bullying of any kind was not tolerated. Teachers and coaches both were always very fair when it came to their expectations and would always try and help solve issues rather than punish unjustly.

River Ridge has poor leadership outside of it's coaches. The Principal is a figurehead and the counselors play favorites. I attended all four years and was active in many student programs as well as varsity sports and upon graduation the principal and counselors didn't even know my name. The coaches however are phenomenal, nothing negative can be said about any coaches I had while attending RRHS.

As a student athlete (graduating class of 2014), my time at RRHS was enjoyable. The less interactions I had with the counselors and administration, the better. After four years of attendance, neither counselor nor the principal knew me by name- for instance my senior year Mr. Herring (the principal) asked me if it was my first year at River Ridge and where I moved from. Most teachers were excellent, a few left some to be desired. The coaches did everything they could for anyone regardless of who they were. Bullying was not tolerated and generally everyone felt accepted and free to be themselves without fear of being ostracized.

There are some great teachers at RRHS. Some could definitely be improved. There are some teachers that are just really bad at their job: teaching. Some of the AP teachers have been real disappointments.

Teachers accept late assignments with a 10 point reduction for each day. They are not holding the students accountable for their work by letting them turn in things late. At the end of the grading period, teachers still accept any missing assignments for the period! Students get to college and think they can turn in things late! This is the only county I've ever seen that accepts late assignments. TEACH THE STUDENTS RESPONSIBILITY AND INTEGRITY!

High school sports are all about politics instead of the talent and skills of the player. Coaches should select the best players instead of who the parents know. Boys sports are seriously suffering at this school and the coaches politics are the reason.

River Ridge needs to hire teachers that truly know how to TEACH. My son took 2 years of French and can't speak the language. Teacher only showed movies and had them read. What's the point of taking a foreign language if you can't speak it?? An AP teacher can't even teach the math class. Students watch you tube videos to learn. Another teacher subbed for her one day and the whole class finally understood the lesson. That's just crazy! There are a few exceptional teachers who I believe really care about the students but they are few. I'm very disappointed in the counselors too. They are too busy to help the students make college or career choices. Female athletics are very good - lots of young ladies get scholarships but the majority of boys sports are terrible.

There are honestly some amazing teachers at this school that try so hard for their students, however the biggest issue I've seen is the lack of good counselors. I was having an issue with something and went to the counselors to talk it out. Instead all I got was a suggestion to see someone else and this look from the counselor that made me feel like i was crazy. This really bugged me as I did skip out in a class just to be told to go somewhere else.
Also, this school is so bland and seems to have no traditions of its own. And as it was previously mentioned, it seems dress code doesn't apply to cheerleaders and football players get all the attention even though the team is horrendous. Fine arts are extremely important and don't get as much attention and announcements as football does.

I'm grateful for those teachers that do try but the couselors haven't seemed to be helping anyone they don't already know.

When River Ridge High School opened in 2009, I was excited that my kids would be going to a brand new school and optimistic that it would draw great teachers and coaches that would want to work at a brand new school, with brand new resources, and be part of laying a great foundation for future success. But after, 5 years in existence, River Ridge just hasn't lived up to expectations. Instead of drawing great teachers, its a haven for marginal clock watchers that are essetnailly stop gaps, because the administration is either incapable of hiring quality teachers or just doesn't care. My kids have endured too many teachers that are incompetent, overwhelmed, and disinterested; in any other professional they would be fighting for their jobs. If you want your kid to actual learn something to prepare for college, I sugges you look elsewhere, unless you feel like spending your own money on tutoring.

As a Parent I loved the school.Teachers are top notch at keeping parents informed. As for the Principal Leadership, most are awesome but one of the administration team should look for other employment. It was very obvious he is there for a paycheck. Parental involvement gets 4 stars as I do not see many parents supporting the school as there could be. This is a great new addition to the county and hope year #6 is even better for the staff and students than all the prior years. One area that could use improvement is the school drop lane. I would like to see the school do a better job at not allowing people to drive on the left side to form a second line to drop of kids. This is dangerous to the kids and to the drivers in the right lane.

What an awful school. Please do not send your child there. I graduated from there last year. They must have found the staff from downtown Atlanta and said hey you want to teach here. The staff is about is rude as they can get. The principle doesn't care about you if you're not a football player. I hate telling people I went there because it is such an awful school. If you're "popular" the teacher will pretty much take the test for you. Don't worry there is no dress code for cheerleaders. I was miserable every second I was there. The teachers will pick favorites so be sure to be it. Oh and during lunch if you need to go to the bathroom you have the magnet girl and boys passes. You may only use the restroom 3 times a week once a day (they have a chart). I would not recommend this school, unless you want your child to come home miserable everyday. Beware.

This school is AMAZING. I have been going to River Ridge for 3 years and I love it. All my teachers are outstanding and are well rehearsed in what they're teaching. The only thing I can think of that this school could improve on is athletics. We're good in a few sports like volleyball, tennis, track, and softball. But besides that...we suck. But a good education is more important than sports. Hope this helps!
