as a current freshman, i’d say grovetown high is… mid. not horrible, not amazing, just very in the middle in a way that starts to feel disappointing after a while. the overall environment is one of the biggest issues. there’s a lot of drama, and it’s not even subtle. it feels like there’s always something going on, arguments, rumors, friend group problems, and it can get exhausting, especially when you’re just trying to adjust to high school and stay focused. academically, it’s also pretty mid. some teachers are okay, but others seem kinda lazy or just not very engaged, which makes it harder to actually care about the work. it’s not even that the classes are too hard—it’s more like there’s not enough effort put into making students feel supported or motivated. there’s also a lack of structure. a lot of students skip class, and rules like the phone/electronics policy aren’t really enforced. people are constantly on their phones, ordering doordash during school, and doing whatever they want, which makes the school feel unorganized and not taken seriously. another thing is the culture around partying and drugs. it’s pretty normalized, and even if you’re not involved, it’s still part of the environment in a way that’s hard to ignore. on top of that, there isn’t much school spirit. compared to other schools, there aren’t a lot of fun events or things that bring people together. it doesn’t really feel like that typical “high school experience” you hear about, it’s more just going to school, dealing with drama, and going home. mental health also doesn’t seem like a big priority, which stands out considering how much students deal with daily. it would make a big difference if there was more support in that area. overall, grovetown high isn’t the worst, but it’s not great either. it’s the kind of place where you can get through it, but you have to stay focused on your own goals and not get caught up in everything around you.

I've moved my whole life and not once I've had such a hard time keeping up with my grades. This school system compared to up north is ridiculous and honestly they should change it. What happened to giving children homework to understand the material instead of constantly giving them tests back to back. What happened to doing your homework boosts up your grade and weighs more than a test grade. This school mostly focuses on tests and exams and put those higher above anything else. Getting homework is rarely to none. And quizzes and tests come up almost every week or two.

Some teachers here honestly just don't want to teach. Let me rephrase that. Some teachers here want to actually teach and want their students to succeed but shouldn't be teaching since they don't know how to help the students. Most teachers here barely teach in the classroom and expect you to learn everything at home. THIS ISN'T COLLEGE. You are in school and I expect to learn in class than rather teaching a material to myself that I barely understand. Giving homework would help many students but apparently homework is nonexistent here.

Teachers are supposed to help the students and try to make it easier for them to pass their classes. That's their job so every student can succeed but some teachers are forgetting that. I say some because not all of them are like this but the majority are. And don't get me started on how rude some teachers comments are. They say ask questions and sometimes a student is generally confused and need a different approach to understand. One teacher really yelled and used overly big words acting like the student can understand. LEARN TO DUMB THINGS DOWN. We know you took this in college but your teaching students who all learn differently. This is one of many reasons why when someone needs help they WONT raise their hand.

This school is also bad for students mental health and drains them mentally and emotionally since most kids are stressing on their grades from test scores that drop your grade dramatically. Plus the behavior of most students in this school is disgusting. The way boys here act towards girls and the way some girls think dressing up like its a fashion show benefits them. People here also love to judge so that's why most kids here wear brand things and dress up a lot. People get bullied for the type of shoe their wearing, its not that serious. Maybe that's their only pair, there is no compassion what so ever. There's more but there.

This is the second year both of my older kids are attending this school. The dealings we had with teachers last year were pretty good for the most part. The ones from this year are seriously lacking in maturity to be teaching my teens.

The teachers and staff themselves are rude, aren't on task. And some aren't more mature than the students they are there to "help"

The office staff, admin and counselors (with the exception of Mr. Keels) are rude to the parents. Act like it is an inconvenience for you to come in with regards to anything doing with teens classes.

I teach my kids to stand up for themselves and others if they are being "bullied"
Everything is handled one way and that's everyone is punished. That's not how it should be. My teens shouldn't be punished for defending themselves.
Also doesn't help when some if the bullying that goes on here is from the teachers and staff themselves

We have lived in 6 different states, moved 5 different times and my kids have gone to 12 different schools over the past 10 years, this has got to be the worst one yet as far as rudeness from the staff and admin. Rude to parents and rarely can they help you.
Spoke with a counselor this morning and she seems to have been the worst so far. That's not counting the interactions with the actual teachers, some of which have actually been pretty good and decent and go above and beyond to help their students. Not happy with this school at all.
You would expect the office staff to be friendly and welcoming to the parents atleast, but that has never really been the case.
Last year's counselor was really a great guy. The new counselor my kids have this year was rude, interruptive, and curt and seemed like it was an inconvenience to get back to me.

While there are many talented and caring teachers at GTHS, the support from the administration is missing. Parent concerns are often deflected and not taken seriously. More than once I felt talked down to and made to feel like I don’t understand what teaching and planning entails. The administration is also seriously lacking in communication. Unless you demand answers issues are completely ignored. There is also a huge emphasis placed on athletics over academics.

There are many teachers who don't really teach, and as a student that goes here, that a major problem, especially when it comes to tests and exams. Also, the administration often shows favoritism regarding the dress code. Males can wear whatever they please such as REALLY short short and tank tops, but when a female attempts to do this, that's an instant office referral, to change clothes. And lastly, the quality of my education has decreased due to the influx of students who feel the need to disrupt the class, then the teacher has to stop teaching, and ultimately we lose time for learning, which is the sole purpose for attending school. My opinion is possibly biased due to the fact that I came from Ohio, and Georgia's education system doesn't hold a candle to ohio's, due to the fact that there's more emphasis put on the success of the students, whereas here, some teachers have an "I don't care, if you don't care" attitude.

There are a few good teachers such as Ms. Reeder (a.p world teacher), Mr. Shaw (science teacher) and Mr. Cox (lit teacher) but for the most part most of the teachers seem to dislike coming to school

The teachers often give many tests and quizzes and not enough homework for practice, which is detrimental to our gpa and the amount of time that is taken to have to reteach what should've been taught correctly in the first place.

Great programs, friendly students, supportive staff and excellent principal. Very military friendly. This school is a great choice if you have high school aged children.

We are a military family stationed at Fort. Gordon and were told to stay in Colombia County. This is a close knit community, a previous review stated if you are attached to one bad apple that your child is branded as a bad apple as well. That review was absolutely correct. My child has been bullied by a group of kid's from the ending of last year to currently now. Talking to the staff is pointless. We all know going into the office and pulling other children in makes it worse. For the mental health of your child, I'd choose another licstion.

Our children recently started attending Grovetown High. I have to say, the JROTC program is above any other. The Staff is very professional... you can see they love working and teaching respect to our children. I would like to see an improvement in their meal selection, my kids maybe have lunch once every two weeks since there are no options other than a main dish. Pizza gets categorized as a fruit! Sorry, but lunch menus need a lot of improvement. The building itself is well kept, and the community seems to be growing fast. I would also reccomend that the library gets a revised schedule allowing our children more than 15 minutes to complete any homework after school. We are a military family and move constantly so we had experiences with many High Schools and I am glad we found a good school for our children.

We're a military family, and when we moved here we had a few problems transferring some home school credits. Mostly, it was miscommunication with the counselor. Other than that slight hiccup, my teenager loves this school and the teachers.

If your child is associated with one bad apple, they will be branded as one also. They will judge your child and make it difficult for them to succeed. 90% of the teachers are there for a paycheck, and the school board does not care either. "Every student, every day" is total BS.

Being a military family can be tough at time, especially when its time to move. Grovetown High School's teachers & staff have been amazing. The teachers are there to teach & care about the kids.

Grovetown High School is only 4 years old. It has amazing faculty in the front office and 916 ,where students can go to visit the principal(Ms. Penny Jackson, their guidance counselor and the assistant principals( Mr. Craig Baker, Mr. Sean Petro, and Dr. Susy Roper). Grovetown has a 30-minute period that we call Pride Period in which the students pick a club to go to for the semester. We also have JROTC, in seeing all of the people in their uniforms every Tuesday I would say almost half of the school is in JROTC. Culinary Arts is also provided. In that class you learn how to cook, teamwork, etc. I took this class and it was very enjoyable! The teachers at Grovetown are awesome with what they do. They make us want to come to class by not making the lessons terribly boring and they know their students.

my school is horrible. the administration can not help the students the way they should. whenever there is a student in danger they overlook the situation leaving the student in danger. bullying is absurd in this school.
