DO NOT GO HERE. This academy is not the best school in the state of GA, this school states they are the best despite all the terrible things! Custodians try they're hardest but still keep this school rinky dink!! And they call the parents for the smallest things ever! My friend could be doing her work and still get called and notified!! That's the only one I give 5 stars! There are too many fights at this school and too much bullying. Please stop!!! DO NOT GO, DO NOT RETURN. If it's not about the students to call, they tear out all the money you have with the campaigns!! Please trust me.

This school has been extremely problematic on multiple fronts. The principal left in November, and a search for a replacement wasn't initiated until May, towards the end of the school year. The school counselor appears disengaged and unclear in their responsibilities. The staff's conduct has been notably unprofessional. Despite its reputation as an elite institution, the school fails to meet those standards. It accepts a wide range of students, leading to frequent disturbances, not solely attributable to its all-girls environment. Additionally, instances of teachers bullying students have been reported. The school's handling of special needs students is inadequate, with overworked teachers seemingly focused on their paychecks rather than their responsibilities, as reflected in the school's declining scores and rankings. The institution seems to be at risk of losing its accreditation and may face closure if significant improvements are not made. I am so happy that I transitioned my scholar into a better academic environment.

My daughter attended IPA for four years. Reflecting over the years, the administration was responsive and quick to adapt to virtual learning during the pandemic. The transition in March 2020 was organized and intentional. I learned about internet safety and how to navigate google classroom and other software apps, classes were organized and project-based which worked well at home. I saw my daughter encouraged to take on leadership roles, and she actually began to read more during the pause. Parent engagement is on steroids! There is always an activity or program for scholars and parents that keep us connected. IPA nurtured and cultivated a strong leader in my daughter!

I attended Ivy Prep Academy during my elementary and middle school years. I am now graduating high school and I only have awful memories of this school. Teachers were bullies. Several times, teachers made cruel remarks about students and co-workers in front of me. The building was always filthy. I was always noticing roaches, flies, and ants in my classrooms when I was a student. I never really felt safe but it was most alarming when in middle school my teacher left on maternity leave. Our substitute teacher at the time was inappropriate and made the students feel discomfited. When I told him instead of removing him from the class they took me out. Another teacher that I thought I could trust at the time made "R-Kelly" jokes instead of actually listening to what I and other students had to say. Throughout those years I didnt have many teachers that knew how to teach. It always felt like we were skimming through the work instead of digging deep and teaching it. They were always low on staff and most of the time they had a sub rather than an actual teacher. I could tell many alarming stories about this school and tell why its a horrible choice.

The communication at this school is so horrible. They will only contact you for donations and re-enrollment. They still have COVID-19 rules in place so parents aren't allowed in the school. Teachers don't respond to emails, parent square or handwritten notes. I had to call every administrator just to request a parent teacher conference. During the meeting, the teacher referred to her students as "raggedy". The administration is ran by "mean girls". They are rude, condescending, and lazy. The turnover rate is astounding. Nurses, teachers and counselors are quitting in the middle of the school year because the administration treats them so poorly. Avoid this school !!!

The teachers are horrible. They bully students just as much as the students. So very unprofessional. Lunches are horrible. They dont consult with parent or attempt to contact parent before or during a disciplinary decision is made. They just suspend children & contact the parent after school hour informing them that the student cannot come in the next day. No conference, no hearing. Mrs Mack is horrible as school Principle she has no clue how to educate, nurture or respect children. I will be making a formal complete with the board & Dekalb County Board of Education

I've been contemplating and contemplating whether or not if I want to let my girls attend the school again my daughter was bullied half of the school year last year threatened by another third grade student and nothing was done to the girl she was not suspended she was not putting detention her parents were not notified. The only thing about it is the school is convenient to wear my job is and the fact that they have an after-school program which is free that's the only upside about this school.

I do believe that the quality of education is superb at this school. I must say that my daughters really enjoy attending this school. The staff is very helpful and kind to my family. I would definitely recommend this school.

This year was my daughters first year attending school in person. We had some challenges but her teachers, counselor, and administration have been really supportive. My daughter has taken etiquette classes , dance, and computer science. Her favorite class is Science and she even had medical students come in and work with her class. They always have virtual or in-person events for parents. The Mother-Daughter tea really nice. Some teachers are really great, but some teachers have been a challenge.

This school is terrible! At least for the upper Academy. This is my girls first year attending this school and I cant wait to transfer them. Administration is horrible. A young lady brought a knife to school showed the entire class. Teacher was notified and no action was taken and it was not properly handled. She had the knife the entire school day. Notified the leads of the school and the was like we are looking into it very nonchalant response. Later another administrator responded with a more appropriate responses. The school can not keep a teacher to save their lives, my kids know the substitutes better than the full time employees. There was a gifted program that they pulled, Im hoping they are not getting funds for that because they are not using it.

The administration at this school are horrible. They cant keep teachers my child hasnt had a Social Studies teacher in months only a sub. They are very unprofessional my girls has expressed to me about how the administration of the 7th grade and the head of the school yelled at them about wanting to call me their mom to explain how they are being mistreated. I brought it to their attention about my girls getting cyber bullied. The head had the nerves to say that the girls mimicking my daughter on tik tok isnt cyber bullying. I wouldnt recommend no parent put there daughters in this unprofessional system they call a school. As you can see their scores are very low lower than public school. Your daughters are not safe in this school the administration doesnt care about resolving the bullying situation thats going on in their school.

Pretty awful. I taught there for a couple of months as a contractor. Not impressed. When they found out they could not collect state money for a contractor, I was gone without so much as goodbye thank you. They had no gifted curriculum and the program was a sham.

As a parent of Ivy Prep, I love the school overall. Do we have difficult situations? Of course, what school doesn't! We may not be perfect, but teachers and staff truly care and love our scholars. I have three daughters that attend this school. All of my daughters love their teachers. The teachers communicate with me daily about their academics and struggles. My daughters have a great relationships and built trust with their teachers. My oldest has an IEP and Ivy has helped her more than her former school. The teachers and IEP team have been patient with my daughter and have built her confidence and self-esteem. She now believes in herself more than she ever has. My other two daughters are also excelling very well. Teachers are very engaged and go above and beyond for their scholars.

Worst school ever! I should have known from the staff behavior at the New Scholar ceremony. They made no effort to approach parents to welcome them, no eye contact. Very aloof. It's been downhill ever since. There was more emphasis on the consequences of bad behavior and inappropriate dress than how they would assist student goals and achievement. The staff is rude. The teachers, save one or two that I have encountered, are rude and don't treat students with respect. How can you expect to get the best out of your students if you cannot show the same common courtesies you expect to receive from them? The teachers are supposed to use e-Class to post assignments. They don't. The lack of communication is astounding. Thankfully, I have a responsible student otherwise, she would fail miserably at this horrible institution. If the teachers would use the resources given to them and communicate with the parents, I would give higher praise. If every time I asked a question of the faculty and didn't get "Why do you need to know" in response, I would give higher praise. If every time they fell down and I didn't get a lame excuse as a response, I would give higher praise. I am an engaged and supportive parent. I wanted to love this school. It's a shame I cannot.

Teachers are rude, disrespectful and punish the many for the behavior of a few. I cannot tell you how many times my child told me she raised her hand in class only to be ignored. To have gone to the teacher for assistance only to be told it's in the material. Really? When a child asks for help, it's your job to stop, pay attention and provide guidance. My child is getting A's not because of the teacher, but because I finally gave up trying to reach the teacher and hired a tutor.

Honestly, if they bothered to post assignments I might feel differently. I've made it clear I am an engaged parent. I want to know what the focus is in class. I want to know what assignments are given and when they are due. I want to know that if my child has a question on an assignment, she will get an answer and not the brush off. Don't squelch the thirst for knowledge and the desire to exceed!

This is my daughter's first year at Ivy Prep and I am pleased with what I have experienced this year. Her teacher is awesome! The teachers are tasked with a pretty difficult job with teaching kids that are below average to exceeding. Despite that struggle and the time commitment she has remained steadfast in ensuring that each girl is successful. Are there issues, of course, as with any public school. However, the vision of this school is evident. I agree with what others have said, parent involvement is key for any school to be successful. If you are looking for a great alternative to what Dekalb, Fulton and APS has to offer Ivy Prep is a great choice. If we could get more families that are like-minded the more successful this school will become.

Our daughter attends kindergarten at Ivy Prep. It is working well for her. The teacher is engaging but firm. They have many practices that encourage good citizenship and cooperation and the like. Certainly for kindergarten it is a fine choice.

My daugther's school Iny Prep Academy at Kirkwood for Girls is awesome! I love the culture and atmosphere of the school and how they show a genuine interest in my daughter's education. The uniforms are excellent and professional but the most important aspect is the cirriculum gearing my child for college and making sure that she's ready!

This is my first year at Ivy Prep. I must say that it does take a village to raise a child. I see a lot of negative comments below and as one of the parent's said: Are you gonna be a part of the problem or part of the solution? Coming from school up north, I have seen the difference in kids who have parents that care and those who don't. With what I saw for my first day, the only issues I've encountered are the parents, the uniforms being expensive, and some disorganization going on. The "Body". Parents, students and teachers should always be working together. The quality of the uniforms are what I would expect from a brand like Lands End so in a sense, this is truly a good thing. As far as organization -it's a FREE Public school! If you are good at organizing help the school out! They are wearing multiple hats for free trying to make sure our kids are able to have a good education. Coming from a non profit whose department raises over 60 mil a year - I for one will do my best to make sure I help the kids at Ivy succeed. Any successful school has 3 things helping it; Parent involvement, funding, and resources - if you are a parent - be that for Ivy. .

I used to really enjoy this school and what they stood for. This past year has been terrible and I can not speak for all teachers but I am thoroughly upset that my son has been BULLIED all year long and I have wrote emails, I have spoken to the Vice principle, and my son's teacher and have even tried to set up a parent meeting. He has been hit on, knocked down, poked with pencils, food thrown in his face, and nothing to date has been done.Then I am told that there can be an investigation done but there needs to be documentation. The teacher who I will not disclose her name has seen this happening and has yet to report it according to the VP of the school. My son opened his mouth and threatened this kid and has now been suspended because of the threat. This is very upsetting because I have been to the school countless of times and nothing has been done. Sad...You send your kids to what you believe to be a good school and they are not protected but when they do stand up for themselves they are once again victimized, teaching them that they are not safe. I will not apologize for this post and will continue to post reviews on other sites. The Zero Tolerance policy only applies to some.

I read the reviews posted by others. I'm a parent who also works in education. The point of charter is to give us a choice in our child's education. Not sure about others but my home school in DeKalb, Salem Middle, is HORRIBLE. I see the same parents volunteering. Some of them everyday. While others congregate in the parking lot with negative conversations about the school. A kid almost got hit the other morning because some mom didn't want to drop off in the car Lane. We have to be the first example of following rules with our kids. Can there be improvements? YES! This is a new school experiencing growing pains. We as parents could help the school out by making sure our girls are doing their part. The level of disrespect that I have witnessed is appalling. Let's be part of the solution, not the problem. Remember, Ivy is our choice. A better choice. Work in progress.

My daughter loves IPA and so do I. This is her first year here, and I must say that I am pleased. I took a gamble pulling her from her previous school, but I have found a school where she is loved for who she is yet pushed to be a better her. I love, love, love her teacher!

I am very pleased with IPA. This is my daughter's second year and although we had a stronger bond with her last year teacher, this year has gone been going well so far. True, as with most fairly new schools, there is room for improvement. But compared to the school we were zoned for, this is a far better choice! Hopefully next year there will be a better sense of stability. We feel like we never really know what's going to actually take place when we're told. With more parent involvement, I'm sure next year will be even better!

This is the second year my daughter has attended. While it's not perfect, I am more than satisfied with the high level of curriculum, discipline, and strides made to continuously up the ante for the scholars education. Her classwork and homework are challenging and the expectation of excellence has been made clear to her by her teacher and administrators. I can't speak for the middle school grades, but the elementary grade teachers are great! The only thing I can say that concerns me is the lack of parental involvement. Because this is a charter school, parents had to make a conscious decision to enroll their child, so they more than understand that their participation is expected. Unfortunately, there is a disconnect between expectations and what is actually happening. If you're a parent who wants to give your child a fighting chance and understand that it may not happen at their traditional home school, give Ivy Prep a try!

IPA is definitely not what I expected when I signed up for my daughter to attend this school. I agree with one of the previous posts regarding uniforms I also spent over $500 and they didn't even enforce the uniform policy. Three years later they are trying to enforce it and parents are not happy. Most teachers are first time instructors, appear to have no training, and can not control their classes. Few of the teachers have certificates and they do not communicate well with parents. I believe the demographics of this school has a lot to do with it being an epic failure compared to the success of the Gwinnett County campus. There are not enough parents who care to force the administration to do something different. After the first year I wanted to give them an opportunity to make it better but it got worse. I've been trying to put my daughter into another school but School Choice did not work in my favor and moving my child to her home school might be "cutting off my nose to spite my face". If you are considering IPA/Kirkwood for your daughter, please make sure you do your research first. And by all means, please do not confuse it with the rating of the Gwinnett campus.

I would be very cautious about sending your daughter to this school. My daughter was exposed to inappropriate sexual conduct amongst the girls, foul language, and a slower than average curriculum. The administrators seemed to be more concerned with pushing their own agendas than shaping the girls into the best that they can be. I transferred my daughter to a private school. I am still dealing with the horrible mistake of sending my daughter to this school. Beware!

My daughter attended Kindergarten at Ivy Prep Academy at Kirkwood and I am very pleased! She tested above average in all subjects and I definitely give the praise to her teacher who was dedicated and cared for the girls. I love the single gender idea, since it is a proven fact that girls learn differently than boys (I have both a girl and boy). The main office staff communicates well by sending out weekly newsletters via email to keep parents informed as well as allow parents to view progress reports and report cards online. We will be returning! My son will be starting Kindergarten in the fall.

Unlike our zoned school the kids get that one on one from the teachers that they need. Their methods are non-traditional which a plus is for the children of this time. Ivy stresses respect and character building, sets HIGH expectations that the scholars enjoy striving to achieve while being encouraged to think outside of the box. Collages (Harvard, FAMU, Brown, etc.) not classes sets the SCHOLAR not just a student mentality in motion. The teachers and staff They are very pleasant and welcoming and have consistently shown the scholars and parent the respect that they in turn demand. It s a sacrifice to get my scholar there and back each day due to conflicting schedules but it s worth every bit of it. My child went from being a C student at her zoned school to an A -B in the first year at Ivy. Thank GOD she is now back at Ivy and back on the right track. With more parent involvement and dedication I see this campus being just as successful as the Gwinnett campus.

We had a very poor experience at this school. There was rampant bullying and verbal abuse between the students (middle school aged girls) and the adminstration did not appear to be able to get a handle on the issues, merely reinforcing 'respect each other and be nice' platitudes. The teachers are willing and able and are almost without exception young and enthusiastic, but I fear their youth and inexperience may be their downfall in being able to identify and eliminate bad behavior in the classroom. The uniform is restrictive and expensive in the planning and purchasing phase but the enforcement of the uniform policy is lax, making me wonder why there was the need to purchase $500+ of uniform if the rules are not subsequently enforced. Overall, the faux-private school appearance is, at best, a sham. I hesitated for months before writing a negative review out of respect for the young teachers and counselors who are talented and enthusiastic and have many great ideas to educate their sometimes unruly charges, but it would be unfair to prospective parents to not point out the major inadequacies of school leadership to address the major discipline and identity issues of this school.
