If you value your children and their dignity, do not send them to this school. The new cell phone policy has turned the morning routine into a complete nightmare for students. Staff members are grabbing, pulling, tugging, lifting, and taking students' clothes off. When the students ask why, they are told, Its the law; you cant have a phone in school.
The law does not permit teachers or faculty members to harass your children over a cell phone. This behavior is disgusting, and I am deeply disappointed that it is happening under the new principal. It is even more disturbing that she is actively encouraging thiseven attaching zip ties to students' pants herself.
If you value your children, please do something about this immediately.

High school got a new young principal. She's testing young adults like kids. Imagine my 18,17,16yo now having to use mesh or clear backpacks when the school has metal detectors... It is completely ridiculous.

The students run the school. There are no consequences for bad behavior. Students don't have to follow the dress code and dress like they're either going to the club or posing for a mugshot. Girls run around in midriff shirts with their belly rings prominently displayed. It's really disgusting. The principal has no control whatsoever over the students. There is fighting, constant disrespect to teachers, and cellphone usage in class. Students aren't given consequences for cussing out teachers or each other; they skip class; they roam the hallways. They just basically do what they want. NHHS was on lockdown several times this year due to weapons.
This school could be restored to its former greatness if the adminstration was stronger and would take control.
IEPs and 504 plans are not followed at this school.
Graduation rate is high because they just pass everyone along whether or not they actually mastered the content or not.

We love New Hampstead! I have 2 boys here, a Junior and a Freshman and they both love their school. The teachers are amazing. They are there for the kids, they make lessons fun, interesting and challenging. The school offer courses for every level with a wide variety of honor classes. Their art program is amazing. they have dual enrollment opportunity. The counselors at the school are awesome: they really care a lot about the kids and help them navigate high school and find their way. It is easy to get in touch with them and have information if you need them as parent. My boys found friends right away and they love the atmosphere at their school. We are so so happy with New Hampstead!

So many of these kids are much more intelligent than people think but they aren't even given a chance to shine where they excel because of a label they are given.

The school would much rather put a hasty stop to a problem then solve it, which usually results in impermanent results. The school seems so unexcepting of anything that isn't considered normal by societal standards.

This school was honestly the worst that I could have been too. Its test scores are horrible and I really do not believe that I was able to reach my full potential at this school. Many of the teachers are just as bad as the kids and it seems as though as years went it it got worse instead of better. I don't not recommend to school to anyone who cares enough to want a quality education.

As a substitute teacher, I worked at every high school in Chatham County. My many experiences at NHHS were nothing but pleasant. The students were respectful and calm, and seemingly more knowledgeable than the students at the other high schools in the area. I would not let my children go to most of the schools in Chatham County, but this is one of the very few that I would feel comfortable with.
