Sagamore is an excellent choice due to it's dedicated teachers, staff, location and amenities. The assistant principal Dr. Montello is a genuine, thoughtful, and proactive administrator. Teachers like Dr. Shackleford who is so positive and supportive. Locals like Mrs. Zabinski who will make sure your child is in the best extracurriculars. Mrs. Sommers who is an exemplary parent who's kids are top tier roll models. The location of the school tucked away in a classic mid century community allows you to walk or bike into school on safe streets. The campus has an outdoor basketball court, soccer field, proper swing set, playground and is located adjacent to a neighborhood swim/tennis that the students can walk to on a short trail from the school. The community is walking, biking or a fun golf cart ride to local restaurants and shops. The neighborhood is close to Atlanta, Decatur, Buckhead, CHOA, CDC, and I-85. Buy a classic mid century, a new home, or custom build your own dream house. The rolling hills of Sagamore are a perfect place to raise your family. Sagamore Hills Elementary school has the best staff, excellent teachers, and a quite well appropriated campus. You will be pleasantly surprised by this gem.

We have two children so far at SHES and we couldn't be happier. The school is community minded and caring while also managing to challenge and stimulate the kids. There is significant parental involvement. The school is diverse in culture and socioeconomics, which is lacking in similar schools nearby. My older child has learning difficulties, and we have found the school responsive and helpful. The teachers are incredible. We could not be happier, and I feel very lucky that we chose our home where we did.

We've had 2 children at SHE for tw0 years now (since we've moved to Atlanta). It's been a great experience for not only them but for us, as adults, too. My kids are thriving and I'm kept well informed of all activities and progress. I couldn't imagine a better place to send my little ones!

I've been super impressed with how the classrooms are split up and often re-assessed so kids are challenged, never bored and learning more each day.

Vice Principal and Principal are so vastly different personally that depending on the issue, you'll have the right resource for sure.

It's traditional, but reasonable, with occasional out of the box ideas. Like, tracking the moon, or interesting movie choices that my kid can really learn from and be inspired. Occasional texts with google searches for geography lessons are fun, too.

SHE is an amazing experience all around and I have two kids with vastly different interests, challenges and talents. Not only is the school wonderful, but the parents are so incredibly welcoming and kind. Our family feels like we are a part of something important and fun right here in our community. My kids are challenged, valued and are growing and learning every day. I would pay to send my kids to SHE, no kidding. BIG fan.

4 years in and we love it. The children get more outside time than many other elementary kids.... the teachers take them out for breaks often. They are encouraged to bring snacks other than lunch as full bellies means better learners. Tons of extra curricular stuff to do, loads of parental volunteer opportunities... whatever floats your boat. Principal is great... she is even keeled and listens. Dr Montello Asst Principal is very hands on and knows each student and parent well. Teachers for the most part seem to love teaching. They expect a lot from the kids but so they should - that's life and the real world. Kids are loved, respected and given every opportunity to excel and excellence is recognized accordingly. No school is perfect - private or public. It is what the parents make of it and how involved they choose to be. Negative comments usually come from hands off parents who are not there and do not know what exactly is happening. Each to their own. The school is a gem and compared to many other ES in the area, it does a great job. So glad we lucked out and found this place.

The atmosphere is getting very competitive, which does not tend to foster honesty, integrity, and fairness in students.

We are not very impressed by Sagamore Hills Elementary. We picked Sagamore because we wanted a small community school. The standardized testing is getting out of control And the children seem over-scheduled. The Principal, Julie Taylor, is conflict-avoidant and will not take a stand on anything. The Assistant Principal, Mark Montello, is fairly responsive. My son loves science, but the STEM program is lack-luster. The children are over scheduled and don't have time for play. There are some nice parents there, but the overall feel is very snobby if you're a newcomer. If you have not been there since kindergarten, it is difficult to break into the social scene.

My son is in first grade. He has homework each night, but no more than 5 minutes of effort. It is about teaching kids to be organized and prepared. I wish I had learned those skills at such a young age.

I am surprised at the recent negative reviews. This is my son's second year at SHES and he could not be happier. He loves his teacher and has made great friends. The more I get involved and volunteer in the school, I realize what a special neighborhood school we have. Teachers, staff and parents work hard to make this a supportive and enriching environment for all.

Teachers in smaller schools can effectively communicate and have access to training and support. Less likely to be lost in the crowd. Sagamore teachers have gifted-certified teachers at each level.

There are projects and daily homework in the older grades and appropriate work for the lower grades. No unrealistic expectations, but it is challenging.

The small school atmosphere helps promote community. The STEM program has helped students bond and become in-tune with each other. There are many programs which help students of different grades and ages meet and learn from one another. This helps students develop relationships that extend beyond their "classes" and form friendships that are meaningful.

Sagamore is a close-knit community school. The teachers are receptive and want to help each child. The parent participation is awesome! I would highly recommend this school if you are looking into moving to the Sagamore neighborhood.

Sagamore was selected to pursue STEM certification and will be STEM certified in 2015. This means extensive training for all teachers, more technology for students, after school science, computer programming and engineering clubs, improved garden and outdoor spaces and partnerships with corporations to bring real-life STEM lessons into the classrooms. This is in addition to the math team, science night and science Olympiad team the school already has. Students, teachers and parents are all really excited about this new opportunity for the school. Of course the arts program remains really strong with full time art and music teachers that provide art and music every week, an annual art show as well as band, strings, chorus and the spring musical.

Sagamore Hills Elementary school is a true community-oriented neighborhood school. Nestled within the boundaries of one of Atlanta's most beautiful, well-established neighborhoods, Sagamore Hills is a fantastic school, brimming with a team of fabulous teachers and staff supported by a strong network of active parents. Sagamore Hills teaches to all levels of educational abilities in a diverse demographic environment. In addition, the community feel is just something I have never been able to find anywhere else.

We love love love Sagamore Hills Elementary! The staff and everyone here are wonderful. My son is in Pre-K and has made so many friends and learned so much. He's becoming such a big kid here. I'm so happy with this school.

I love this school my son came here for 5th grade and the teaching method is awesome my son came home talking about what he'd learn in Science class! and some of the others, this was the very first time I'd heard him come home speaking and engaging about what went on in school so thank you Sagamore Elementry!!

The scholastic results are outstanding, but that is only one part that I love about Sagamore Hills Elementary. As a parent to a PRE-K student, I was a bit worried how he would like it and feel in this new environment, but he loves it. As a parent I always feel welcome and there is a great positive spirit going in the school that you cannot really put your finger on. It is just a very positive atmosphere where it feels like students and staff really enjoys the school.

The diversity pie is a LIE!!!! And mentally the students and staff doesn't no how to handle certain situations dealing with different cultures and people feelings .The 5months we were there was the worst experience we ever had. O I almost forgot they will question your child without notifying you . If your not welcome there they will use their authority to force you out. I'M NOT JOKING IT HAPPENED TO ME!

We have 3 children currently at Sagamore Hills (since Kindergarten), and find the neighborhood school a wonderful environment. The size is just right for kids to try everything it offers and actively participate. Teachers and administrators know the children and help get them get what they need to be successful. They should be well prepared for middle school and the real world! Another great thing about the size is that the kids and parents don't get lost or feel like a number. Everything they do counts and gets noticed.

We have been at Sagamore for 4 years so far with 2 children. We couldnt be more satisfied. The school is very diverse and we love that all cultures are embraced. We have had positive experiences with all our teachers and our children have been well prepared. what I love most is that the teachers and principal welcome parental input, ideas and involvement. Sagamore is a true community school were we all participate in improving the education of our children.

Sagamore is a great neighborhood school! We have 2 children at the school, and they LOVE it! The kids have art and music weekly (our art teacher is outstanding!). We also have so many programs and activities, including fun family events (sock hop, dinner night, spring carnival, talent show) and opportunities for enrichment in math, reading and science! Sagamore also has strong parent involvement. And we love that our children to go to school with other children in our community!

Our second of two chidlren is now in fifth grade at Sagamore. Our older child entered middle school fully prepared. At Sagamore, we have had awesome teachers (including great art and music instructors). The school also helps us feel truly connected to the community.

Sagamore is an excellent elementary school. I love the fact that it is small and teachers know the children across grade levels. As an involved parent I like knowing I can volunteer in the classroom & get to know the teachers and administrative staff. There is an intimacy at Sagamore that I think larger elementary schools lack. The community is strong, the kids are great and so are the parents. We have very strong music and art programs. The children have a school wide art snow annually - it's mazing! We have choral, orchestra and band concerts throughout the year, it's quite impressive!

The Great Schools rating by far does not reflect my experience at Sagamore Hills. The teachers that my children have had were excellent. The teachers challenged my children academically but yet supported them through the process. They also fostered my children's social and emotional growth. The leadership staff is superb. The principal and her staff is always willing to hear a quick story in passing or schedule a lengthy discussion. They are very supportive of the students, parents, and faculty. I could not be more happy with my decision to send my children to Sagamore!

Sagamore Hills Elementary is a wonderful school! I've sent all three of my kids there and we have had only positive experiences. My kids have received a great education. The teachers are fabulous and there is strong parental involvement.
