The administration staffs are rude, from the front desk main office staff to the information specialist. They don’t return phone calls nor willing to help in any situation. If your child is not strong and independent, don’t send them here.

My daughter and I were thrilled when she got accepted to this school through the lottery. However, my perspective has significantly changed over the past two years, leading me to decide to switch her school for 8th grade. I was initially under the impression that students needed to maintain a certain GPA to remain enrolled, but that has not been the case. Unfortunately, bullying and fights have become daily occurrences, and the use of foul language and derogatory comments among students goes unchecked. I had higher expectations for this school. I expected more from this school and I am extremely disappointed in the culture and learning environment at this school.

I have only been at this school for almost 9 months and everyone I know hates it. When you come to this school, you’ll know that because you can hear everyone talking about the teachers and complaining about how much they hate them. When students like me have a question, certain teachers don’t answer and tell us that we were talking too much so we couldn’t hear what we said. The first question that comes to my mind when they say that is, “How was I talking? I didn’t her a word come out my mouth!” The teachers here are unfair and multiple students would agree with me. Yesterday, my classmate wrongly received a ticket for spilling water on a teacher’s desk when she wasn’t anywhere near there. I had an experience like so myself, my English teacher said I was talking and told me to be quiet. She told us to talk with our group mates! And that is what I was doing, so how does that make sense!? You may not agree with me, but this is what I have been through and believe. I hope to leave this school soon. Please do not apply to this school and suffer like I am doing currently. I even seen people crying because of this school and its teachers.

As a parent of a STEM student, this school has been completely underwhelming and I am thrilled that my child will not be returning for the following reasons:

1. It has "STEM" in the name needlessly. It does not emphasize these fields more than any other school. The classes are taught to the level of a basic student and are not challenging.

2. In Research class, students are given constant group projects to complete that YOUR child will be doing 95% of and the other group members are not held to account.

3. Children are allowed to speak with vulgar/racist language with no consequences even when others are offended.

4. Within the last year, fights have become commonplace. There is a general lack of discipline and the kids know it.

In all due respect, these issues have become intolerable since Dr. Cave left at the end of last year. The school needs a strong leader. Please consider homeschool or online school.

This school is possibly the worst place I’ve ever been. I can name 5 teachers in this entire building who I might think about ever again. The halls are painted a depressing shade of beige that could never even come close to expressing the misery of every single student in this dump. When going into certain classrooms you can hear the rats in the walls, and we welcome it just for a reprieve from the noises of our own stale breathing in the dead-silent classrooms. I wake up every morning and want to cry just because I have to make the ride to this purgatory. Do not come here. This is not a place of hope. This is not an institution of learning. This place is best shunned and left uninhabited. Leave while you still can. Leave.

I am going to have to strongly disagree on this one. Most teachers follow strictly one teaching format, and I haven’t much of them trying to assist those who don’t learn as well that way.

STEM just doesn’t deal with bullying at all, really... The adults act like LYP (Love your people system) automatically prevents bullying but it certainly doesn’t. I seriously haven’t seen a single person being punished for bullying this year but I do know for a fact that teachers are at least somewhat informed about it.
And don’t get me started on the guidance counselors. They are rarely ever even able to help and I would never feel comfortable having any sort of personal conversation with them.

All in all, I cannot think of anything redeeming about this school. Yes, people say its circulum is great, but in reality it is just stressful and puts a lot of students under pressure. Only about half the school even has proficient scores in math, and I assume that’s because it’s too much for eighth graders (and the other grades).

Teachers claim that homework isn’t given out; only work not finished in class is. But they don’t even give us that much time to finish certain assignments, and I’ve been given a very fair share of legitimate homework (not to mention it’s typically hard to understand).

Most teachers do not teach. First of all, they hold us to standards that are too high. We are NOT highschoolers, yet it’s like they expect us to surpass highschool level. Also, far too many rely on “Check google classroom” or “Look it up” rather than actually explaining the work. It’s also common to have a teacher explain barely anything and simply have us follow a slideshow or something. Of course some teachers are exceptions, but the majority are a bit disappointing. They never seem to care about bullying and such to the extent they should, and I’ve had teachers in which most of their replies to students are snarky and sarcastic

It tried to. One of the main focuses of this school is LYP (Love Your People), which is supposed to encourage such things. But I feel it isn’t talked about enough, and people are more often punished for the most rediculous things over bullying. In fact, I can’t recall a single time this year that I’ve seen someone being punished/referred due to bullying another student.

i loved my son attending this school. he went to two different schools in savannah and always comes out on top with a 4.00 gpa. he needed the challenge so i put him in STEM Academy. and they challenged him good. i wish we could have stayed longer in this school.

My accelerated student was not challenged at this school. Though it claims "all students are gifted" and that "teachers go above and beyond," that was not our experience. Our pleas for more challenging material fell on deaf ears as teachers seemed to focus more on helping all the students who struggled to keep up with the busy work related to repeating lessons over and over.
