Virginia Highland Elementary school has been exposing and using our children to train an AI model without parental consent. I only found out from a social media post that my son confirmed was true that they thought it was acceptable to use an Ai model to teach kindergartners. My son loved learning before he went to VHE but after a few months would cry at the thought of going to school. His teacher and the school admin were wildly uncommunicative and actually accused me of lying at one point over a tech issue. The principal Terry seems to be incapable of admitting a mistake. There were multiple lock downs in just the one year my son attended and each time the school gave us barely any information at all about what was happening or the potential threat to our children. We will never return and have chosen to pull our son out and pay to send him to a nearby public school where they actually involve the parents and take an analog first approach to education instead of hiding the fact that they are selling out our childrens privacy. It is inexcusable that any school would think its ok to sell out our childrens privacy without our consent.

This school (VHE) has launched in 2023 with great fanfare in a very well redone building with tons of space. Much of the teaching staff hired is actually gifted certified, even for normal classes. The kids love the school and the lessons. There are low student to staff ratios throughout the school. The kids constantly get many varied experiences while getting through the core subjects with aplomb. 3rd through 5th grades are taught "departmentally", which means the students get two core teachers who are each a lot less stressed having to only do half the curriculum.
The educational experience here also features many types of labs (Maker Lab is a popular one), a huge library with new acquisitions and a vibrant librarian who has her finger on the pulse of what the kids like and which also has educational value for them. There are many After-School clubs, in the 2023-2024 year they also staged a huge Aladdin Kids! drama production through one of the teachers in partnership with other staff and parents. All students do a music elective (Band, Chorus or Orchestra) for years 4 and 5.
There are excellent assistive services (504, IEP, Free Lunch, Etc) for those students who need them and qualify. There is Pre-K as well!
The school scores very high on standardized tests as well. Additionally, the facility the school is in was formerly a middle school, so it has more event spaces and class rooms than is typical for an elementary school. Truly shining as a jewel. There was a lot of doubt about a new school but those doubts were proven false, it worked out very well.
