I used to go to this school before my parents had to drastically pull me out because of the environment. Teachers are okay, and education is average, but what really set me off was the kids. Bullying is a major problem at this school and not much is done about it besides a few days of in-school suspension. (ISS) Rumors are also a HUGE problem. I remember various rumors being spread about me and my life throughout my whole grade-level. Physical fighting is also a big issue, mostly in bathrooms. Kids, even in the sixth grade, tend to fight using their hands. Drugs, vaping, and all these other things are a big dilemma for the school. I would never recommend this school to anybody. While education is important, also think about the environment of the kids.

The kids are the main problem, us out of towers with bad kids. The programs and curriculum are excellent. Admin suxs...useless. Excellent for children that aren't acting like savages and hood Boogas. Drugs an issue with certain kids (with money). Campus beautiful and sports abundant.

This is a very bad school. Anybody who is telling you otherwise is outdated or just plain wrong. There are fights everyday between kids and the teachers like to curse out and even fight the students. The teachers here (except a few, don't care about the children or their education and some even make the kids cry. There are roaches everywhere and the floor and walls are very very VERY dirty and overall this is a bad school. Even the lunches are bad because some of them are even expired and it makes alot of the kids sick. This is a bad school and i wouldn't recomend it

a great school truly! Great education methods!! I love it so much! I have so much fun here, and hope That I will never leave. The saftey at this school is also SPOT ON!! Very safe! The teachers are also very nice and helpful to eveyone despite the fact that the kids maybe deeply hurt them or SUPER UPPER DOOpER disrespect themmmmm!!! Great school, highly recommend it.

I am a current student in 8th grade and there are some things I would consider before sending your child to school here. A major thing many parents/ guardians consider is saftey. While there are many precautions taken, they ultimately fail. There are many fights every day, and students cannot predict them. Another thing parents/ guardians look for is the academic situation. Most teachers care about you and your grades, but quite a few couldnt care less. And many students fail their classes because of this. The school is (for the most part) dirty, the students are disrespectful, and I cannot wait to get out of this place.

We have been very happy with SSCMS.

The teachers are amazing. Three teachers have reached out personally to discuss both my child's performance in their classes and how to ensure my child is adequately challenged. We have found the administration and staff to be flexible and attentive to our child's unique needs and I have been particularly impressed with the 6th grade/7th grade girls' counselor.

The principal who started in 2020 after the promotion of our prior principal has been phenomenal, as well. She communicates promptly and has shown a dedication to equity and improving rigor at all levels.

The school culture is what led us to choose to find a home in this attendance zone. Students and staff seem happy to be there. Before the pandemic, sports teams and clubs were active and a pleasure to be involved with (to the limited extent of parent involvement and for the students.)

I have been pleased with how the school transitioned smoothly to virtual learning in the spring and then again to a choice between virtual and Face to Face in October 2020.

My only complaint is that we raise amazing principals who get promoted too often. The rest of the administrative staff has been there for decades in some cases. The leadership is steady!

This is one area they could work on at this school. There are a number of students at this school who are given a pass on showing respect. Reports of students who have been very disrespectful to connections class teachers (with rude name calling, slurs and taunts) with no repurcussions. Also, school uniform rule is so loosely enforced as to render it largely ineffective.

Mr. Campbell, the principal, is actively involved in all areas and activities of the school and is always there to support student activities outside of school hours. There are separate Assistant Principals for each grade. The changeover of principals these last few years was chaotic. First Mr. Gardner, who was so awesome he was lured away to Riverwood HS, then the interim principal who made sure we knew he was temporary and then, thank goodness, Mr. Campbell.

Our experience has been positive overall. This school is worth a look. The school prepares the kids academically and is as rigorous as many private schools. There are a number of families here now that transitioned from area private schools and had a positive experience. New parents should be aware of how your choices in 6th grade might impact where you'll be in 8th grade. It can be difficult to change trajectories halfway through middle school. This would most affect kids switching from schools outside the district or switching from private schools, who might not be aware of how things work here.

There is excellent and consistent communication between student/parent/teachers through OneNote and online resources as well as clear and helpful emails. It makes it easy for parents to be aware of Homework and curriculum details and teachers are open to discussion/questions.

Very happy we selected SSCMS. Our child is pleased to have academics that are paced at the appropriate level to stay challenged but confident. To the extent a student wants to dive deeper into areas of academic or extra-curricular interest, there are drone, robotics, academic bowl, science olympiad clubs and teams available and the teachers who run these clubs donate a lot of their time to the students and take a personal interest in nurturing the students' interests. There's a great soccer, cross country, football and softball team as well and there are opportunities to do Track, Tennis and other sports after school and during PE.

The Talented & Gifted program is excellent. If a student has a special interest in an area it is supported too. For example the school has a wonderful STEAM program a student can apply to if they have a particular interest in STEAM.
If a student is interested in Tech, there are engineering/robotics/drone options too.

We have not seen or noticed any bullying.
We notice that the teachers and staff seem to know each other and the kids well and by name. It isnt an anonymous big school where kids are a number instead of a name. It is good to have that sense of community.

Excellent. We were on the verge of signing up to private school and hadnt even looked at SSCMS. Thankfully we popped into one of the open houses, then talked to multiple families and staff about the STEAM program and registered for SSCMS. Our child has made wonderful, kind friends with a thirst for learning in the Steam program. So happy!

The teachers know their students well and make the time to facilitate that. Many teachers volunteer after school to help at sporting or academic bowl or drone programs too and this further builds on the student-teacher-parent relationship and solidifies good collaboration.

Our 6th grader has had an amazing experience in her first year of Middle School. With all of the negativity surrounding middle school, we have had quite a positive experience from a student and parent stand point. The teachers have been terrific, their communication has been on point, concise and they respond immediately with any questions. Additionally, they each have a comprehensive web site to keep parents informed of their classroom schedules. We are very pleased with the changes Mr. Gardner has made and look forward to what the future holds at SSCMS.

My son has been there the past two years and really enjoys it. He doesn't want to miss school! (This is a big change from his previous school experience.) They really care and the administration will return emails/phone calls in a timely manner. I was impressed with STEAM night. The principal is working very hard to make it a great school and I can tell it is working.

Please consider this world class middle school- rigorous and varied curriculum with loads of project-based learning opportunities. An active PTA and Foundation support many extracurricular activities including sports, art clubs, musical theater, etc. I find my child's schedule to be challenging including courses in Latin, and orchestra, in addition to typical core classes. New school leadership have revitalized this school; and they are developing more and more community partnerships. Class sizes are small and teachers, staff, and faculty all seem to care about their school and all the children who attend.

Mr Gardner, our new principal, has stream-lined the registration process to include the "fast pass" which was done online. He has also improved communication through the remind app. He's improved the carpool lanes.

Our 3rd child has started at SSCMS this year as a 6th grader, and the experience keeps getting better & better. He comes home every day full of great news about his various classes and after-school opportunities. He loves his teachers, is challenged, is active in the STEAM academy, is learning how to play the violin, and is playing on a soccer team. He understands that his principal has a world-class school vision, and we see distinct evidence of nearing that goal as parents.

We have found SSCMS to be a fabulous school! Our children have been challenged in their classes and have made great friends. I love that our children are in school with children from all walks of life. Being able to accept and interact with people of different faiths, backgrounds, and interests will benefit them greatly later in life. Our new principal has brought new energy into the school! The teachers are amazing! In short, we have been very happy with our time at SSCMS and look forward to our 5th grader going next year!

The principal, staff & PTA reached out to incoming parents & students very early on making the transition much easier than anticipated. The teachers are all very professional & caring. My son is currently in the beginning of his 7th year and attended SSCMS for 6th grade. I have truly enjoyed the open communication between the educators and principal. They are constantly looking for ways to improve the school and it's processes. For example this year's orientation was swift and easy I was in and out. They have invested in their overall programs. Just like any institution there are areas of improvement but with the involvement of the PTA and great parents this school will soon become an outstanding learning environment.

As parents who moved here from "Up North" and didn't know what we would be walking into I soon realized that we had made the right choice. The second year in had definitely been more enjoyable thus far.

Mr. Gardner has been a great principal he's always looking for ways to communicate information with parents, involved in communicating with PTA and through multiple channels including social media. We love it here!!!

This is my fourth year at this school. My eldest is now a freshman in High School and I have a 6th grader there now. My eldest flourished at SSCMS! The teachers are dedicated to the students and families. They communicate well and the students are happy. It is a win-win for parents and students. Under the leadership of the new principal, Mr. Gardner, communication has increased about what is happening in our school. Whether it be in the carpool line, or in the hallways...you will be sure to see Mr. Gardner engaging with the students and their families! My children are on different academic levels and the teachers are prepared to teach each student wherever they are. If you are looking for a world class school, look no further!

My son is about to finish his 7th grade year at SSCMS and we have only had positive experiences. He is 13 years old and ADHD. We tried the private school route (GHA, Galloway)... but honestly they (unlike Public Schools) are not mandated to know how to teach a student with my son's challenges. He is very bright and came to SSCMS in the 6th grade and went right into advanced classes. We have a 504 plan for him and I regularly speak, text and email with his teachers when necessary. He is challenged by the curriculum and has a great, diverse social life. The first year I wasn't very involved... but this year I was able to take on more volunteer roles and spend time getting to know the admin. They are a dedicated group of educators who are working on building SSCMS into a top level, superior school for our community. I would suggest to anyone interested... before you decide on a private school, or consider moving to another county... just walk through the doors of Sandy Springs Charter Middle School and see and hear what all the great buzz is about!

The energy at this school is amazing! The new principal has given this school a whole new energy! He has great ideas, has a great staff, is approachable and wants his students to succeed. He is working to make that happen with all of the kids, whether they are in the honors class or need some extra encouragement. By engaging the parents, the teachers and the students to all work together, i'm more than excited to have my 2nd child going thru this school, with a 3rd one on his way!

Perfect new principal, amazing class choices. Sports program, arts, music programs exceptional! A diversified population which both of our children have really enjoyed. Our son has gone to Sandy Springs Middle since the 6th grade with an IEP for math and reading. We definitely had concerns and struggles in the beginning, but I will say that things have improved dramatically with the hire of this year's new principal. He's passionate, involved and highly motivated. In his very first month at the school, he sat down with each of us on the PTA , listened to our concerns and immediately took action!! His goal is to make SSCMS a world class school - and he is well on his way. There is better communication than ever, the staff and students seem happier and more involved than I've ever seen them. Being on the board of The PTA, I can say that everyone goes above and beyond to support the staff and the students. I'm only sad that this is our son's last year at the school because it is finally where it needs to be!

Our 7th grade son has thrived at Sandy Springs Middle School since the first day of 6th grade. We love that he is exposed to children from across our community and relish the many benefits the school affords us to be active members of Sandy Springs. The SSCMS teachers and faculty care about each and every child and work as a team to ensure that learning takes place holistically. Our teachers are active in coaching and cheering for our students at sporting events and academic competitions. We have many middle school options in Sandy Springs and are grateful for the amazing families, friends and faculty that make SSCMS the right option for our family (our 5th grader can't wait to attend next year).

This is my daughter's first year at SSCMS. She had previously been at a private school in the area, but we realized that she can receive a great education at SSCMS without spending so much money. We have been very impressed with the teachers and the principal. She has made some wonderful friends, and most importantly, she is happy and loves her school!

This is our first year at SSCMS and we LOVE it!! My son is in 6th grade and he loves going to school. His favorite class is Latin which is unbelievable to me that a school even offers it to 6th graders. Administration has been great, atmosphere is awesome, and very engaging teachers. Can't say enough about what a wonderful school it is and even getting better with the new principal.

My daughter is in 6th grade, and we've been extremely happy. I will admit she's in all TAG classes, so I can't speak for other students' or parents' experiences. Her class sizes are small, and she's had great teachers. Yes, the rules are pretty strict, but if it prevents disruptions, I'm all for it. One person mentioned the TAG program being watered down; I disagree completely. In elementary school, you are in tag or not. In middle, you can be in a TAG class, even if you weren't in TAG before, based on your performance in that subject. So if you are not in TAG in elementary, but are great at science and get great ITBS scores, you can be in a TAG science class. "On level learning" is what every parent is asking for, and this is what it looks like. I'm very happy with the admin staff, although several are new. Overall, great experience, and I have no hesitation in sending her back for 7th.

I'm an adult in the community and I volunteered at Sandy Springs Middle and it was so great to see the level of interaction with teachers and kids at our neighborhood school. The kids were well mannered and fun and teachers treated them with respect. The school has great facilities and they are well maintained. We are lucky to have this school with these teachers and students in our community!

I was a little concerned about the school ratings that I found online. However, my child is very happy at this school, the teachers are very good, and every time I have been at the school the students are quite and organized. I think this is a much better school than the online ratings may lead you to believe.

I moved to this area because it was better than Dekalb. The elementary school was great and I was hesitant about the middle school because of it's rating. I was right. Yes the teachers and principal are great and they speak highly of my son, but the students are horrible. Is hard to look past great staff, when the kids are bad. Lack of respect and home training. The school is filled with bullies and thieves. I can't wait till this school year is over. I'm out of here.

My eldest son completed 6th grade at Sandy Springs Middle School and will now be attending 7th grade here. We moved to Sandy Springs from NY where the public school district wanted to place my son in special education classes for having a slight speech impediment even though he carried a 92 grade point average. Since being at Sandy Springs Middle School his GPA went from a 92 to a 98 and he is now on the Honor Rolls program. He has been nominated to attend the 2014 People to People Leadership Summit. The teachers are supportive and motivational but it is up to the parents to ensure our children are receiving the best education by getting involved in the curriculum and enforce healthy study habits for our children. We cannot expect the school alone to be responsible for our children's success. We have not experienced violence or negligence during my son's fiscal year. The rules are perhaps strict as others might claim but I personally am grateful the school is proactive about our children's safety. I am looking forward to my youngest son's first year attending Sandy Springs Middle School this year as well.

I am a student at Sscms. I am In all tag classes and love the work and the teachers. Last year was my first year at sscms and I really enjoyed it. I made so many new friends and unlike elementary food, they gave us something we actual want to eat. I have read through some of the reviews and most are untrue. Food fights are extremely rare and the school is fixing some other problems. If you ever have trouble with friends or if someone does bully you, you can just go to the councilor. Overall, most of these problems that this school has are minor compared to a lot of other middle schools. And the sports teams are great, too!

The rules seem excessively strict. Kids can't go outside by themselves.They can't go to the bathroom without permission. They have to walk along a painted line on the side of the halls, and there are teachers actually standing in the halls to enforce it. Basically they treat the kids like they're six years old. I don't know if it's like that at all schools now. We didn't have all that nonsense when we were in school, and we managed just fine. From an academic standpoint, the teachers are pretty good and they seem interested in helping the students. My other gripe is with the TAG program. There are simply too many kids in TAG who don't belong there. In grade school, TAG was limited to a select group, maybe the top 10%. At SSCMS, I think at least 30% of the students are in TAG, so the program is watered down.

While there are some dedicated teachers here, the overall atmosphere is very rough. Most of the students are not there to learn. This school is not about achievement, but caters to the lowest common denominator.
