PCHS is a good school academically because they have some of the best teachers however the school needs a new principal. Reason : He does not know how to community well with parents, he's very arrogant and also he never showed up to support any sports events unless a certain sport win. That is terrible. I just hope he will be replaced soon so the school will be much better.

I'm going to focus on the athletic department, especially the girls volleyball team. There's a lot of favoritism on the Varsity team, Coach Bryan needs to go, while the team was half way through the season, he was already looking for his team for next year. The result of that, almost lost every game, because he benched the good players and he played his favorites. Also, he doesn't care about the parents concerns. Almost every parent on the the Varsity team and some parents from JV team are dissapointed with him. When we (parents) email him and asked questions, he just ignore our emails. I'm not sure why this guy still coaching at pearl City High. Also, there were some parents that witnessed him talked and put down some players infront of the whole team. It may be funny to him and thought it was a joke, but that's not how you boost morale. I wish the Athletic Director will hire someone new, it's time for a new head coach or just bring up the coaches from the White Team since they doing a much better job than him.

This school does not deal with bullying effectively. The administration don't call the parents asap when anything happens in the school. I believe this school needs new leadership.
There's also a lot of favoritism in the Girls Volleyball team. (Eg. The coaches let their favorites in to play first and leave the good ones that can play sit on the bench. It's irritating and not fair at all. The Atheletic director needs to take a look at this and maybe needs to replace the coaches. It's been years since PCHS made it to the Championship.

I'm not sure where to start, there are so many things this school needs improvement on. I'll just start with some of the teachers: They're sooo slow on updating the students grades, do'nt respond when we (parents) email them. Have attitudes when we finally get to speak with them. It's ridiculous.
One of the security guards is soo rude and mean, the Samoan lady. They need to get rid of her. There is so much favoritism in these school.

The office staff need to do a better job of assisting everyone instead of their favorites. The principal needs to stop making excuses for his staff and needs to apologize when they're wrong instead of acting arrogant.

I very much agree with the last reviewer, the cost to go in the gym to watch your own kids play is way too much, especially with a big family. Also it's a lot of favoritism going on in the girls volleyball team, the JV coaches just don't know what they are doing, Coach Mele put in her favorite girls to play and let the good ones sit on the bench, and she also let her favorite ones play longer than the others, the school needs to replace her.

This school needs to update their website, the other thing which is very sad and not right, is for them to charge parents to watch their own kids play at the gym. I don't know where the money goes to, but I think $6.00 is too much. Not everyone can afford to pay that much, why not $3.00 for everyone. I know this family that they always wanted to watch their child's volleyball game but they can afford to pay $6.00 at the door, so every time their daughter has a game they don't show up which is very sad. The principal needs to look at this and make some adjustments. Find some other ways to raise money. Don't charge people $6.00 and the gym is very hot.

Pearl City High school is a very good school. They have a lot of extra curricular activities for the students. My favorite is the girls basketball team, it's like a family, the coaches are really nice and friendly, they treat everyone the same, no favoritism or anything like that. Sometimes when the girls need a ride to a game, the coaches themselves take them, so that way it'll be no excuse to miss a game. My only concern about the school is that in the morning, there a lot of students smoking across from the auditorium, but I think that's the parents responsibilities not the school.

Coach Cara Taniyama and Nikki Takai.

We are a military family, and my son transferred here from public schools on the mainland. It is disturbing to me how my son comes home from school with complaints about not only students, but bus drivers, and teachers treating him differently because we are military. Even the faculty admitted that there is military prejudice at the school! As far as the curriculum goes, my 6th grade son is doing the exact same homework as my 11th grade son. Not sure if that means that the Elementary school is that far ahead, or the High School is that far behind :(
