At the school my experience was pretty good. They do not give a whole bunch if homework, also they are very kind. This school would be great for your child. They also provide tutoring to help your child w/ anything or they can work on what they need to work on. Teachers at this school make students feel welcome just like all the other kids.

Very happy with our experience so far. We've been here just a couple months but we love our child's teacher and feel like he is improving. He has received personalized attention and appropriate homework. Friendly, helpful staff as well.

There is a decent amount, but I feel it is appropriate and helpful for me as a parent in monitoring how my student progresses.

Ive attended coffee hours with the leadership team and they’ve explained the SBA testing that allows and analyzes the students opportunities. PCES for the most part exceeds benchmarks which 35 other states administers the same test.

My daughters teacher is great at deflecting traits of bullying and helping to teach my daughter what is right from wrong. PCES also has an explanation of bullying and actions to take (for any parent and anyone that volunteers for the school) drafted in their policies.

So far it’s been great. The knowledge and behaviors she is learning at PCES is transpiring at home and we are greatful for her teachers and other staff we’ve directly encountered. We participate in family nights and events that are planned by the school, there are many opportunities for parents to be engaged and participate with our child’s education at PCES

The teachers at Pearl City Elementary really care about their students. They strive to foster the whole child. The school provides free tutoring during all breaks and many extra curricular activities.

My kids have been here since kindergarten and they love it! We have had great teachers every year and they are above grade level. We are sad to move this year.

Again, staff members made my husband and I fee at ease. I honestly felt my worries were quelled after having a meeting with their support staff member. He was very professional and seemed to know his stuff relating to children with special needs.

This school is soooo slow at doing anything. Their website is NOT updated on time, they do not have help for student (i.e. tutoring) for K-1, I had to hire a tutor because my child was not getting the attention needed and there is very little or delayed communication from the teacher to the parents (i.e. in class performance & grades on their tests, we don't see that until the following week). I do not know about you but my child gets rewarded for having a good week and getting 100% on his tests, but what kind of reward is it when it is not until the following week? There are simple ways to solve the schools short comings but it is if they truly want to; 1. Update and continuously update your website (i.e. calendar, teacher lists, events). 2. Have an online classroom for parents to look at to make sure their child is doing the homework and has their daily/weekly progress reports (FOR ALL GRADES!). This would alleviate sooo much miscommunication between teacher and parents. (i.e. homework online used for online access to homework assignments, study materials and lesson notes and a parent portal that provides parents access to student attendance, progress reports, and report cards).

Full of excuses as to why they don't understand why some of their students just don't get it. I am a parent and you "should" have a degree in teaching and I know why they don't get it. They need to get out of the classroom to learn. Common core is not an excuse to take your students outside to teach them about science or collect stuff for math. I made a hop-scotch for my child's sight words to learn. Teachers are lazy and just want to get paid for nothing.

So the school finally got an online classroom and it is great if it was setup for individual students. But it is defaulted to the weekly homework. My child comes home with additional work that is not on there and is suppose to do it. That just tells me that it is the lazy man's online classroom.

My child's teacher constantly questions their ability and makes them second guess themselves. Never praises their achievements but calls out their failures in front of the whole class. This kind of behavior from the teacher discourages my child from wanting to try to participate in the class in fear of being wrong.

My children have had great experiences at Pearl City Elementary! We arrived here 3 years ago and have had incredible teachers. Both of my children are performing above grade level. Those of you moving from the mainland, don't hesitate to enroll your kindergarteners! Truly amazing teachers with years of experience. The staff has been kind, professional and welcoming from the moment I arrived at their door. I actually choose to live in Pearl City over Kailua, just so my children could attend this school.

Faculty has great unity. Recently acquired WASC -Western Association of Schools and Colleges Accreditation 6 years. The school also showed the greatest improvement in the state Strive Hi scores 2014-2015. This is a great school.

I've expressed a strong desire to communicate with my child's teacher and I feel an empty smile along with an "ok we will work on it together" empty promise, doen't constitutes integrity and homesty. I've asked many times to be kept informed and not until after failing test scores do I have any indication of performance problems. I have also gone as far to get outside tutoring after school and on the weekends to manage the gaps in performance. I expressed this added effort to the teacher and no alarms have gone off as of yet. I would have hoped the added effort on my part was a clear indicator of these challenges and maybe a new plan to address and cultivate progression would have taken place. All I got was a smile. Where the integrity ? Maybe at best an honest look at what can be done differently to foster confidence that would result in better performance.

I do believe there is potential and a good intent on the teachers part at the school, but a teacher that is unwilling to adapt and try new approaches is as good as driving a car with no gas!

I honestly just don't know because of the lack of proper communication. If there was some form of consistent communication, maybe I could gauge what was appropriate ( maybe more if that's what it took) but at the same time what is being issued at school in the form of class work and are they really getting it or let's just pass it off as homework and hope they learn.

I recognize that as a parent I have an obligation to fostering my child's success, but I also believe that the teaching methods and styles sometimes fail the children. Each child learns different and when a teacher loses sight, or doesn't have the ability to adapt, they need to humble themselves and start establishing a plan sooner than later with the parent(s) to rectify any lagging performance issues the child is encountering before it effects his or her self-esteem. Self-esteem builds confidence and that confidence blossoms into a successful and positive student outcome. I'm not seeing the level of perfessionalism that I expect from an educator and the administration (in charge of the school) across the board. I'm not sure if it is due to an apathetic attitude (Union induced) or if a fresh perspective is needed from a new generation of educators and administrative leaders collectively. Clearly something is not working and to insist that the parent(s) absorbs just as much of the negative emotional impacts is unsatisfactory. I spend around 4-5 hours each night to fill in the gaps that I am witnessing. I've addressed theses shortcomings with their teachers and with a smile they assure me change is on the horizon. I now know my concerns have fallen upon deaf ears and I really cannot wait until the day arrives that I can move to a better school district. At this point the Hawaiian system is not only failing the children, but it is failing the communities that are paying for this substandard education. It might be time for new officials or at least hold the ones that are supposed to address these concerns accountable ( this is probably why Hawaii is rated 49th nationally). Please speak with the teachers directly so that you can get a real sense of their character and if the only thing you really get out of the exchange is a smile with more questions then answers, walk away and seek out alternative schools . I'm still trying to figure out what my tax money is paying for when in fact I should be getting a partial refund for the many hours I spend at home re-teaching the basic fundamentals they should have learned during the day. At this point let's just call the school what it really is- a glorified daycare and let's stop trying to mask the teachers deficiencies and downfalls. Educators should have a willingness to learn and evolve--not perpetuating failure.

Pearl City Elementary is a very positive and caring environment where the entire staff is focused on student needs. The children connect with everyone from their teacher to the lunch lady to the custodians. The curriculum is very rigorous and inquiry based aligning itself with CCSS.

As a parent, I m happy that my chid s school has a second parent teacher conference, that I don t think other schools do! I know how hard the teachers work and I want to let them know that we really appreciate their efforts and putting children first, especially with the new common core standards - even I need to learn more about.

I give the teachers in this school 4 stars because some of them they really care about the kids and the rest only care about their pay checks. The principal seems very nice always smile I wish I can say the same for her staff. I agree with one of the reviewer, the staff needs to smile more often.I don't think I will bring my child to this school next year, probably to Momilani or a private school.

Pearl City Elem. is a ok school to me,reason is because lack of supervision in the morning for students around campus,in the cafeteria and playground areas,also there's not enough supervivision for the kids at the parking lot.But I have to say that the teachers are really great even though some of them are not really friendly,they still good teachers.Most of the staff members are snobs,they look sad and angry everyday.But for new parents don't let that stop you guys from going to Pearl City El. Because the teachers are good.

Our daughter started going there with only 2 months left in the school year. The staff/teachers and the students were kind and friendly and very receptive. We could not be happier with our current situation! Teachers challenge the students and make learning fun and exciting. Oue daughter loves going to school!

We have been at this school for 2 years and so far the teachers seem to be the best feature in this school. They are caring and dedicated. The principal seems to do a great deal of work behind the scenes to improve the school, but it would be nice to see her actively involved with the parents more. It would also be nice to have a more active PTO with more opportunities to participate in meetings and after school/work hours.

There are many great things that PCES is doing to help educate our schools. They have many extracurricular activities for the upper grade students to participate in such as JPO, Chorus, and Robotics, to name a few. In addition, the technology used at this school is OUTSTANDING!! The students have laptops in the classroom and use various online programs to enhance learning. My experience with the teachers and staff was wonderful. They are nurturing and cariing. Everyone should bring their children here.

I have one child currently attending PCE and have to say my expectations were not very high in the beginning because I had heard some negative reviews of this school. However, after one year of my child attending PCE I only have good things to say about this school. The school is diverse with plenty of military kids and local kids who get along beautifully with each other. I have volunteered at the school several times and my impression of the staff is positive. There are really only 2 staff members who seem a bit harsh towards the kids. But what I mean by that is they have a more "old school" approach. I don't particularly agree with their style/tone but I certainly don't want to blow it out of proportion. My child doesn't even really have to interact with these people much, so truthfully, I don't give it much thought. My other little one is starting school at PCE next year and I'm happy to have them both there.

Staff are very rude and extremely bossy to students. They yell and put down students. Play ground extremely unsafe, a child was hospitalized after lacerating her liver after a fall on the monkey bar. Principal only cares about school appearance and reputation and forgets to human need of the students and their parents. Events are always unorganized and staff attitude very rude, which made me not wanting to attend.

This is our first year at this school and as of right now, it's leaving me wanting to home school my child. The play ground supervision is lacking, and those who do are extremely rude, bossy and unfair to the children. 1 teacher threatens the class, with holds recess from them for reporting things a class bully does, then set thems up for failure by asking them what happened during lunch when no one openly tells. Teachers seem cold and uncaring towards most of the student ( although it's clear they do have favorites) The only bright side to this school is that it's one of the few that offers music class.

This is a great school! We sought at Geographical Exception to this school after hearing rave reviews about it. The principal is great, very friendly and knowledgeable, and is always seeking grants and other funds to make improvements to the school; right now they are building a brand new library. They are very military friendly, and very welcoming to new students. The teachers are very positive and truly care about the students. They have lots of neat classes, like music, computer, Hawaiian studies, library, etc. They also offer many extracurricular activities after school. Our favorite is the art classes which our daughter has enjoyed tremendously. Low student to teacher ratio (comparatively) with many E.A.'s to assist. Thanks PCES!
