My daughter has been going to this school for 5yrs now (k-4th) and itÂ’s an amazing school. The teachers have all been great and supportive. Jason (principal Yeo) is awesome, he knows every student by name and very engaging. We watched our daughter grow and learn so much respect and kindness because of the teachings at this school. They really teach the aloha way here.

There are pervasive bullying issues that seem to be handled in ineffective ways by administrators. My child had his arm broken by another child on campus. This was after months of having my requests to look into bullying not taken seriously.

Our experiences have been narrowly focused: mostly watching the outdoor activities & interactions among teachers & students.
We had occasion to donate a large amount of crafts items, some holiday-related, all colorful & rather costly. I was tempted to take them to Goodwill, but I had read an article in WOMAN'S DAY that dealt with the hardships schools are facing--both public & private. It suggested donating arts & crafts items to elementary schools for their use in creative projects.
In our cleaning out our enormous collection of arts & crafts items we identified many things we thought would make good additions and/or supplements to holiday presentations, homemade greetings, gifts & classroom decorations. We gathered them up & my daughter walked up the street to Kamiloiki Elementary School. She was pretty excited about being able to make a donation that was suggested by a national magazine intended to inspire moms of young children.
But her offer was rejected, gently of course. The woman to whom she spoke said, "We don't teach art." She accepted the gift items but reluctantly. My daughter walked home in the heat with disappointment influencing the rest of her day.
Why wouldn't the woman who accepted the donations look through the sack to discover what was in it? She probably would see one or two or more items worthy of deed of gift status. Perhaps the students would find things they would like. May teachers would see stuff they'd like.
I guess despite all the news stories that announce at every broadcast the loss of funds and shrinkage of curriculum "extras" schools are so wealthy they can afford to refuse good faith offerings & donations of goods that just might be appreciated by someone on the staff or faculty. What about the goodwill toward the neighborhood school that is diminished by a rebuff no matter how objectively delivered, of generosity & thoughtfulness?
We probably selected the wrong recipient for our donation. We will go in search of, perhaps, a preschool or private school. Just maybe a seniors' daycare would be the proper place to take our "treasures." I further imagine my daughter expected more effusive gratitude from the person receiving the package. We will expect less and choose more carefully, and I humbly suggest an awareness on the part of Kamiloiki office staff of what it takes for a person (without children) to be inspired by a family magazine to happily give such to her neighborhood school.

The Principal is very hands on and knows what is going on around the school! (not always the case in Hawaii Public Schools) Staff has been so helpful in helping my children transition mid-year! Thank You

Despite the new principal making changes with out parent input. The teachers continue to be what makes this school great.

I would give this school 5 stars if they had a better principal. He has made significant changes to the school staff and academic programs without consulting or informing parents. He avoids letting parents communicate their concerns. Instead we get a presentation rather than discussion.

The teachers work very well with the students to make sure all course material is completed and understood. A lot of the teachers often spend extra time before/after school to help students with homework.

Excellent school. Great teachers, Principal, counselor and staff. In our child's first week there was a concern of feeling intimidated by other kids. The teacher dealt with it immediately. They've given kids the tools to deal with conflict at such a young age. I go there everyday and observe; I know many of the kids thru outside of school activities and there is no fear and a lot of support among each other. Enrollment has consistently increased in the last 4 years.

Very disappointed alot of kids that bully and nobody does anything about it. This is two times and they let it go. I had to pull my child out of school, and I am not the only one who has done this. I just hope they realize before anyone gets hurts because they are scared to tell.

i could not be happer with Kamiloiki Elementary school my son who is in the 1st grade was attending a priviate school from YP and P and I am just as happy with where were at now. He is getting a great education and the teachers and principal and admin staff are wonderful. thank you for the excellent care and teaching and we look forward to each year at this school
