Great school! It has an open campus where kids can run around during recess. There are also lots of STEM resources, such as aquaponics and gardens. My child loved going to this school. She went from 1st to 5th grade there.

Give this school all the stars. My kids unfortunately were only here for 3 months because we moved out of Waikiki (military family). If I could pick up this school and take it with me I would. My kids felt safe, welcomed, and loved in their classes. The teachers go the extra mile and get excited about their students. The front office staff were so nice, helpful, and welcoming too.

The school has gone through, and continues to go through, major changes - so much so that earlier evaluations are largely not applicable at this point in time. To understand this school, you need to go visit it. Fortunately, the current principal absolutely loves interacting with parents and community members, including showing them around the campus. The school has a major focus on STEAM: integrated science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics. There are many new programs beginning, including robotics, aquaponics, and digital media. The attitude among the students is one of excitement, and the faculty's efforts to really inspire the kids is very obvious. The teachers are welcoming and will clearly explain anything and everything that goes on in their classes. Scores, from assessments and otherwise, have continued to rise.

The teachers work really well together, and on average are quite experienced. Someone told me that none of the teachers have wanted to leave since the current principal arrived.

The school places a lot of emphasis not only on the statewide general learner outcomes (GLOs), but also on its own "Pillars" which focuses on trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring, and citizenship.

Wonderful school. The principal is outstanding (enthusiastic, dedicated and approachable). My daughter's teacher is patient and intelligent. She is great about updating the parents via email and letters. The campus appears safe. The staff (particularly the principal and vice principal) are very visible, engaged and hands on throughout the day. We feel welcome here. I like the emphasis on STEM programs, environment, family and culture. We are very grateful to have this school in our community.

Principal doesn't seem to show any concern for how the children are being treated and who is around the property. Bums walks into the cafeteria looking at the food, trying to take some. They go into the bathrooms. My daugher was told by her teacher she had to go in a bucket in the closet because the doors were locked and she couldn't go to the bathroom. I don't know if she was joking or what. My daughter said she wasn't. Very scary who they let onto the property.

Worksheet after worksheet and no real teaching. My daugher also would state how her teacher was mean and yelled at the kids. Yelling so much at a kid that he ran home for not singing!

When we first moved to Hawaii three years ago,we put of children at Waikiki Elem.Sch. and what a big mistake that was. A bunch of snobs,the whole lot of them I tell you. The folks working the front office were just horrible to deal with at any level. One lady working there stated,"I don't get paid to answer questions!" That did it for us,We removed our kids the next day and put them at Pres.Thomas Jefferson Elem. Sch. What a difference,like night and day. We have been very happy with their advance educational programs and I think we will need tutors soon so that we can help our children with their homework,lol. The new principle,is a fine principle & military man and totally understands his goals and the goals for the state of Hawaii. Schools on the mainland were not nearly as advance as schools here in Hawaii and not nearly as crowded either. Here,it's not Spanish first and English last, it's all English and no distractions. Putting our kids here at Pres.Thomas Jefferson Elementary and moving to Hawaii was the smartest move we made in our lives and no regrets. We are actually learning many new things from our kids about culture and history. Mahalo-

there have been many exciting improvements to instruction that the teachers & staff have been fortunate to implement. The bell schedule was revised to allow for an intervention block where teachers are allowed time during school to work with their students who may have difficulty understanding certain concepts as well as providing advanced work for those students who are accelerated. They also offer their students Physical Education, Music, Character Education, as well as Library and Hawaiian Studies. Teachers are provided time to articulate within their grade level to ensure that discussions about data, curriculum, and instruction take place on a regular basis with the goal of constant improvement leading the way.

My kids have gone for the past three years. This year the school has gone through a big change. The principal retired last year and we haven't met the new one at any of the events (strange). All the fun seems to be gone, had to tell the kids no hula this year and no ukalele or hip hop classes. Have to say kids are working hard on basic math and reading to up the school scores but the schools cohesiveness is missing. Teachers are still very good and communicative.
