VERY POOR. The Principal is ALWAYS changing classrooms and curriculum because she "thinks" it'll work best and then when that fails, she just keeps guessing. She's inexperience and shady. She hires "teachers" that doesn't have teaching degrees. On top of that, she's rude, impatient, and apparently is in meetings ALL day everyday. She lacks accountability for her failures and blames her teachers for it.

This school doesn't have an approach period. The principal negates suitable approaches that are proposed by her own teachers. The principal, Makala Paakaula, has her own agenda that isn't conducive the learning and growth of her students.

The teachers are the only reason why this school is effective but it's difficult to be effective when the Principal doesn't support her teaching staff. The way she talks to her teachers disgust me.

Leadership? What leadership? It's sad that the DOE puts so much faith in this Principal who was meant to lead but doesn't. Correction, she leads but she leads in ways that are aligned with her own personal agenda. She's pushing learning criteria onto students that isn't necessary or required by the DOE and is not age appropriate yet. She buys her school chrome books but says "It's not in our budget to pay for a computer teacher's salary".

I had recently pulled my son (whom is a special needs student) out of Puohala because the Principal who is required to attend ALL IEP meetings felt that the meeting for my son was beneath her so she decided to browse facebook, take phone calls, and leave the meeting early because she was "so busy". An inattentive principal to ONE student speaks volume to her character.

Puohala is a family friendly school, with great teachers,and staff. There special education is awesome all the way from preschool to 6th grade. The teachers are dedicated and caring. I have 5 children that attend this school. I love this school!
