It's a very nice and helpful school the only bad part was
A. The students - some people really aren't helpful at all
B. The bathrooms. Who in the world designed bathrooms where the stall walls are so low you can literally see other people if you're standing up??
But yeh other than that, this school was amazing I loved attending here

I was a teacher at MMS for 4 years and I saw extremely dedicated, wonderful teachers, respectful and engaged students, and lots of family involvement! They have amazingly innovative learning experiences, including the camp, a hands-on garden, and numerous positive behavior systems in place. Unfortunately, I recently learned that 2 of my favorite administrators are no longer there, but the entire staff is exceptional! I MISS Hawaii and MMS!

It is the second year in this school for my kid, and we can't wait until the middle school years are over. There is very little (if any) communication between teachers and parents and almost no way to actually get in touch with a teacher if you have questions or concerns. Collective punishment still exists: when only 2-3 kids are misbehaving, the entire class gets punished and in some cases that leads to worse grades because projects are no longer allowed to be finished. They have several "teachers" that are apparently not qualified as teachers (per the DOE letters we received). I get that there are teacher shortages, but to put people in front of kids that are not qualified as teachers is a new low. All in all, I'm not a happy parent at all. If only private schooling was affordable :(

My Special Needs child got bullied by his teacher (among other things). They lost him (I found him in the parking lot by the busses.) He frequently came home with bruises and open cuts and no one filed incident reports or could tell me what happened. I was afraid for his safety every day but if i kept him from school, it'd be educational neglect on my part. I was not allowed in the classroom, but one day I went in because he was the only child left and it was way past pick up time. I saw the was his teacher was bullying and mistreating him. (Yelling at him, chasing him around classroom, getting in his face, saying really mean things to him). I felt helpless. I filed lawsuit and they didn't follow their part of the settlement. They didn't follow the law at all. Thankfully they hired a new VP who helped get this teacher removed from the classroom. (They put this teacher in with the non-verbal Special Needs students). (Horrifying!) For all but 6 months (before transitioning to HS), he was bullied and mistreated by his teacher. In addn, they kept prolonging the IEPs by taking up time with nonsense and there was no time for real issues. They refused to give my child the services he needed (a 1-on-1, etc) until the new VP came on board. Would NEVER recommend this school to anyone.

I love this school! They manage to make the experience very personable in spite of its huge size. My daughter is on a team of only 60 kids:) Teachers respond in a timely matter, and all staff care about the kids and do everything they can to create a nurturing environment. I was a tad disappointed in the rigor of the 6th grade expectations, but education is a balance between pushing the kids and caring for them; push too hard one way and you lose the other.

It's sad to say this school is overcrowded and runs on a track system. The students are out of school on intersession just about every other month for 2-3 weeks at a time making it difficult for students to retain information they learned. Also, teachers are quick to label students negatively.
