We have send two children to St. John Vianney School in Kailua and still have one set to enter its Early Learning Center (ELC) 3 next year. What incredible teachers and administrators. And it shows in the students. They build a strong academic foundation without distraction by new fads. You don't have to be Catholic to apply, but Catholic identidy is core and religion is taught almost every day. There are a variety of extraciriccular activities to include a hula halau. They have a excellent volleyball teams as well. Tuition assistance is very much available. Best thing you can do is to just reach out to the school if you want your child to have an excellent local education that is grounded in Christ.

Saint John Vianney School has been a God send to our family. Every single teacher and staff has provided a nurturing space for for our two children to grow and learn. Both of my children have attended from the age of 3 at the the Early Learning Center. We couldnt be happier with the excellent academics and Catholic education they have provided. Even through the pandemic, they were there and I felt like my kids never skipped a beat in terms of staying on track. Words cannot express how much appreciation we have for this school and community.

Before I even had children, I already knew which private Catholic School in Kailua I would send them to -- the one and only St. John Vianney School Kailua!!! As a fellow alumni, I remember loving the school from its dedicated teachers and faculty to academic excellence. I have the best memories growing up while attending St. John Vianney School Kailua and am thrilled my two children have the opportunity as well. This is still the best pre-school and elementary school in Kailua with an exceptional principal with her dedication and commitment to excellence. My children started attending here since pre-school at three years old and are currently in kindergarten and second grade. I have seen their confidence and love for learning flourish. Their progress and growth have been remarkable. Not only does St. John Vianney School Kailua have top-notch academics, values-based education, but they also instill a premier Catholic education that is of importance to my faith and family values. Furthermore, they have phenomenal support from the church and community and host an annual fundraising event called Breakfast with the Bishop that everyone looks forward to each year. They offer scholarships and financial aid as well as extracurricular activities. I highly recommend St. John Vianney School Kailua for your childs education as it is an invaluable investment. You will feel welcomed and supported here. We are SJV Kailua Ohana!

We moved our son to Saint John Vianney School Kailua in third grade for smaller class size thus more individual attention from his teachers. We have not been disappointed. We have found dedicated teachers and an excited and involved principle. With Saint John Vianney School being a private catholic school in Kailua we find there is plenty of community involvement and supportive atmosphere. Scholarship's are offered to those who might need the assistance. The school offers art, PE, music classes and sporting teams such as Volleyball and basketball which ensures a well rounded education and opportunity for involvement.

We moved to Kailua 6 months ago, and boy are we grateful to have found St. John Vianney School. Any transition is tough on kids, so it was vital to our family that we find a school that would have understanding dedicated teachers/admins, an immense sense of community, strong academics, support inclusion and empowerment and a way to teach children about something greater than ourselves. We found all of this at St. John Vianney.

The staff at SJV are excellent. They have gone beyond my expectation to encourage and inspire my child to be a well-rounded and respectful individual. My child found the courage through their staff to try 3 new sports this year, has hit positive milestones in his reading, and has been a regular reader at Friday mass. All of these things has made him more confident and happier. Thank you, SJV!

Our children have been enrolled at St. John Vianney Parish School for over six years. This wonderful catholic school fits the needs of the diverse community. The school represents a beautiful blend of cultural backgrounds. A positive that allows our children to grow as a well rounded child both academically and culturally.
The small environment is perfect for learners. Those that require additional academic support have options for needed help. Those children that naturally excel have the path to connect to higher learning. Our children were those individuals. Both totally different learners that found their academic niche without obstacle. The oldest child has been accepted to a highly proclaimed private school where the child is now in attendance. I cannot emphasize enough how important the influence of SJV education was to obtain this achievement. Our second child who still is in attendance at SJV has grown leaps and bounds as a learner. The support that teachers as well as administration has provided is to be commended!! This child has to work hard to achieve academic goals. With positive support and appropriate accolades there is no limitation. Natural leadership has resulted in mannerism and responsibility. We look forward to what the future brings for both children as they become young adults. The foundation that SJV has provided through faith and academics we will be forever grateful! A sincere thank you to the SJV family!!

We ended up pulling our child out of this school based off our child's negative experience and recommendations from medical providers. If your child is self driven and requires standard school support, he/she will do fine. If your child requires extra time and educational support - this school is not a good fit. Not all teachers are certified and/ or trained on teaching methods which in turn may harm the student. Our child fell behind about 2 grade levels, neighborhood public elementary school got our child back on track and grade level in 3 school quarters. Administration looks the other way with concerns brought to their attention. There is no concept of social emotional learning. My child still talks about a few teachers that are still there that would humiliate her/ him in front of classmates when learning concepts. Approach with caution.

My son has ADHD and was diagnosed in Kindergarten. His teachers worked WITH us on a behavioral expectations chart to help him learn self-control (and for a student with ADHD that can be a challenge).

The homework is manageable, and if your child is in afterschool-care, they provide a time and place to assist with getting as much of it done as possible. For more advanced children, the teachers will work with parents for appropriate assignments to keep them engaged.

Both of my boys absolutely love it. My 3 yo is reading and my 1st grader (who is a little advanced academically) recieves appropriate assigments within the approved curricula that continue to challenge him so he doesn't get bored.

Awesome school! Character education is a part of every day! Theres multiple supports in place for struggling students: reading lab, title I, peer tutoring, study hall, and extra help. The teachers are very caring and supportive. Theres multiple opportunities for extra-curricular activities as well: sports, hula, band, orchestra, and choir. Its a really nice environment. The children are safe and happy. A Bullying Policy is in place and all families are required to sign it.

Poor. Verbally abusive teacher who teased my son for occasionally writing letters/numbers backwards. Even though she was well aware of his dyslexia diagnosis.

SJV is a wonderful school with very caring, loving teachers and staff. They have always provided excellent individualized attention for my son and all the children at the school. They have a very convenient before and afterschool program that has been a life saver for my wife and I. I highly recommend SJV.

I have heard of some people who are not happy with St. John's, but for a small, Catholic school in a very expensive genre (private schools in Hawaii), you couldn't ask for a better environment. There is truly a sense of community (every morning, the children gather together to start the day with a prayer, Pledge of Alligence and annoucements), targeting needs (children who are advanced per their peers are given opportunities to explore additional educational opportunities), and principal involvement. The principal is on the grounds EVERY day, is accessible (greets parents in the drop-off/pick-up line), has an "open-door policy" and is easy to talk to. I read some of the reviews that he was unapproachable, but when I had an issue, he simply asked that I first addres the concern with the teacher and if I was unable to resolve it, to come back to him. (As an aside, the teacher was able to address my concerns). Although there is no cafeteria, the lunch is INCLUDED in the tuition, making the expense of a private school somewhat more affordable. We are happy parents to send our children there, and will continue sending our other children there until they graduate.
