I love HBA. Both of my daughters attend, and I cannot overstate the incredible love and support they have received from their teachers and all of the school personnel. They have been nurtured and challenged academically, supported and coached emotionally, and even their spiritual lives have been fostered. There are so many options for STEM, robotics, arts, and other miscellaneous skills outside of core academics. Very high academic standards but lots of support to reach them. I would not want to send my kids to any other school after experiencing HBA… there is no other place so special.

Absolutely recommend HBA have two children attending HBA. I sleep well at night knowing that my children are not exposed to the dark ways of the world today and are supported by incredible Christian staff.

We send our kids to Hawaii Baptist Academy so that they can get a good education in a Christian environment. During the COVID pandemic, the school did a great job setting up a distance learning protocol. When the students returned to the classrooms the school had enough classrooms to create smaller groups with students set up an appropriate distance from each other. I’m so grateful our kids were able to continue to learn and grow during this period.

Homework is a lot more manageable in recent years. It appears that HBA has taken this matter seriously and made changes to their schedules and teacher training to adjust. There’s still a lot of homework compared to many other schools, but it’s mostly because other schools have really pulled back.

I have heard of some teacher stories, but I honestly haven’t had that experience. The teachers have been good and a few exceptional! I do feel that My child is cared for and that’s important to me.

Hands down, yes! This is why we are here at HBA. The graduates I’ve met from this school are different, in a good way!

I feel that the admin has been very helpful when I have brought up concerns. I had a problem with my child’s lunch account and it was handled by the next day. They’re easy to talk to and I feel that they’re approachable.

The school has counselors to assist with this. My child has mild dyslexia and we have received support and guidance to help her.

I would say the school does what schools should do when reports are made. I have not had to report anything on behalf of my daughter.

I’ve loved my experiences so far and my daughter does too. There are many opportunities for my daughter and I’m excited for what’s ahead!

My son loves the opportunities he has to explore his interests in science, math, and technology. He loves that he has a large variety of courses, athletics, and clubs to choose from, while still being in a smaller, more close-knit environment. I have seen my son thrive and branch out into areas he never knew he enjoyed since being at this school!

HBA is not worth the money. In fact, the school is desperately trying to increase enrollment. Did you notice they have opened admissions to all grades? They have a tv commercials, print advertisements and expect parents to recruit family and friends. Instead of advertising more, the school should improve their curriculum, get rid of ineffective teachers and create a positive atmosphere for students. HBA equates the amount of homework with effective learning. They should be ashamed to be called "Homework Baptist Academy". Look at schools like Punahou and Iolani that do not load their students with homework in K, 1st and 2nd grade. Yet, their students perform much better. HBA is in denial that they are not a top ranking school. The school culture, as mentioned in the previous post, is toxic. Why do parents need to create cliques? The teachers choose favorites (ie. clear illustration for some teachers are those on the citizenship list--which my child is on, so I'm not just bitter). Students as young as K are made to feel inadequate and that they are smart enough. In a nutshell, HBA creates state workers, not leaders, innovators, or professionals. We're leaving, waste of $

HBA used to be a good school. In 2013 your child will receive a public school education at a Punahou tuition price tag. Some good teachers remain; but overall HBA elementary is now a very poor environment to nurture a child's psyche unless they are gifted AND popular. Parent/teacher/student cliques prevail. Very secretive toxic society of with teachers/counselor/coaches/principal turning a blind eye to social bullying. Some of the bullying of students (and parents) is inflicted by teachers. If your kido is struggling academically or socially at all, don't torture them here. You will regret it. Save your money and try for Iolani or Punahou or Maryknoll or Sacred Hearts or St. Andrews. Anything-but-HBA.
