Hanalani school is nothing great , they stereotype their students . I’m for one my grandson was accused by a teacher of a malicious act and and reported it to the principal. Now they banned him from campus and will miss classes and miss playing sports.
Paying tuition as this much is a joke , not worth what they want you to believe .

This is our 4th year at Hanalani. The education and opportunities for extracurricular activities are great and I love the low student to teacher ratio. I’m always impressed with how well the teachers and staff know the students.

The ratings and reviews I saw were very old and the experience is totally different from our family's experience and from other stories we know from the campus so I felt compelled to comment.

Two items I saw in reviews (albeit a few years old already)
- "Bullying is a problem" -- not at all, they've got a zero tolerance policy that's enforced. Arguably there's opportunity to leave more space for grace of the offending parties, but I know of one student being asked to leave and another being restored. They're highly protective of the students.

- "Donations are everything to this school" -- I don't have a clue who the donors are. The people I see the most are the students/parents who volunteer to get access to Hanalani's generous "Tuition Assistance Program" (HIGHLY recommend!). This tremendously thoughtful program builds a deeper community and keeps staff from being overstretched, by exchanging tuition for volunteer hours for any and every soft of event that is needed to enrich the Hanalani education.

In 2024, I see a tight-knit student body that isn't too small. Students are well loved and loving. Educators that guide, inspire and support. and administrators that have not grown complacent in their successes, but continually look for opportunities to improve their world-class education with program after program, project after project, field trip after field trip. While there's normal turnover in the staff, they continually find well-fitting pieces that raise the bar.

I love that they've got a strong student mentorship program, and that I don't see the stress or burnout that you frequently see in other quality schools. While the students are pushed, they're well supported on all sides.

Take a tour of the campus and see for yourself, they've got to be doing something right.

One closing caveat, this is a Christian-first school. The student body is prayed for and asked to grow in their faith. If that's uncomfortable for you then Hanalani isn't a good fit. However, if you want your kids to grow in their faith with a top notch education, I can't imagine anywhere better.

My children currently attend Hanalani and I rate it very high for numerous reasons. First, their teaching is based on STEAM and other methods besides Common CORE. Second, they focus on family and Christian values and many of the families I have met there are committed to making the environment safe, productive and rewarding. The teachers and staff are committed to a positive environment and focus on challenging the students. Last but not least, they were committed to keeping the school open and the kids learning in class during COVID while many of the public schools in Hawaii fought to stay closed. Highly Recommended.

The school favors kids whose families make substantial donations. All you have to do is check out their youtube, instagram and facebook posts and notice the faces that are consistently shown. They are also the same kids who get recognized and rewarded, although with cheesy awards. The school is so stingy it can't provide quality awards. So if you want to send your kids to this school just be aware you won't be paying for a quality education, you will be paying leadership and their baptist friends who can't afford the tuition. Donations are everything to this school. If you don't pay, you will be left out. Your kids will be psychologically and emotionally damaged by working so hard for stellar merit and excellent GPA and get nothing but watch the favored kids get everything. You will never see your kids work, only view their grades online. Your kids will feel like a rat on a wheel going nowhere. Their funding is tiny compared to other schools so they pretend tuition is affordable when they expect donations from you once your kids are enrolled.

Don't go to this school do not recommend teachers don't watch out for bullying and my son was only helped by a PE teacher and the rest fo the staff didn't care.

I am a proud parent of two girls who are attending Hanalani. It is a safe, friendly and academically challenging environment. When arriving on campus you feel as if you are at home. Everyone is very friendly, willing and wanting to help. If are looking for a Private School in the central district I highly recommend Hanalani, it is hidden treasure.

My son is going into the 3rd grade at Hanalani. He has been at Hanalani since K3 and I couldn't be happier. As a parent I am part of multiple committees at the school and really like the direction the school is going in. A couple years ago I was extremely ill and ended up in the hospital. The teachers and staff came to visit me. We never asked for help, but his teacher was extremely supportive and helped him with his homework and they made accomodations for us after school as we were depending on others to pick him up since i was in the hospital. I have to say he is definitely at the right school as I don't know of any other school that is that caring. Hanalani truly cares about its students and its families. I really enjoy the ohana atmosphere. I am also an alumni of Hanalani, and I am so glad that my son can experience the same opportunites that the school gave me and more!

I am a proud parent of 2 graduates of Hanalani. As of this year both my children completed their college degrees and are now pursuing their dreams. The school prepared them to be successful in college and in life beyond high school. Because of the demanding program, my kids worked hard in their studies. Teachers cared and supported my kids. They were involved in sports, and band/music. They traveled to Europe and the mainland. I am grateful for all the opportunities my children had as they received a very well rounded school experience. The other important aspect for our family was to have an education that included God. The teachers helped my children grow in their faith. It is best to say that Hanalani educated more than my kids' minds; they helped them grow as individuals, their character. Tuition is reasonable for all that the school offers. No school is perfect, but it a great school that cared about my children as individuals.

I am so thankful for attending Hanalani my Junior and Senior year of high school. At first, I was a bit hesitant moving from a public school in Seattle with 400 students in my class to 33 students in my senior class. In the end, I am truly thankful for this experience. I received one on one attention from caring and Godly teachers. I gained numerous friends who became brothers and sisters in Christ. I was able to get into all the Christian colleges I applied for and ended up going to Westmont College. I improved in all my classes and especially enjoyed the small class settings. I grew in my faith through Bible classes and hearing speakers from chapel. I grew in leadership after becoming Vice President of the student body and Society president my senior year. This gave me self-confidence and the ability to speak in front of my peers. I also performed in the school play and excelled in Japanese by one of my favorite teachers. If it wasn't for Hanalani, I would not have attended Westmont which helped me pursue my calling as a missionary, teacher, and finding my identity in Christ. I highly recommend this school for future students who want to serve the Lord and grow academically.

I was a very involved Parent with Hanalani and I decided to pull my kids out this year. My first disappointment was the teachers coming from the mainland on a year to year contract right out of college and still lacks the teaching skills and experience. My child felt uncomfortable being Catholic at this so called" Nondenominational" Christian School from a teacher's comment to my girl. Lastly, the school Science is lacking in all parts of Evolution and Natural Science. Offering both would be the CHOICE! Their STEM Program is lacking due to their lack of Science . My poor son was confused about Dinosaurs since he was only learning that the Earth is so many years old. BJU curriculum in the Elementary is very Baptist and I hope that they will integrate other varies of curriculum(i.e "Everyday Math") to their school to accept all "Faiths". I know all schools have their differences but I wish that they would market their school as Baptist which is nothing wrong with that. Being truthful leads to no disspoinments. Misleading leads to disaster. The academics are great but the curriculum is not for my kids. I want them to be well rounded and accept Creation and Evolution.

Hanalani Review While the Academic standards at Hanalani are good, the curriculim is horrible. The school advertizes itself as Nondenominational - but in reality it is Fundamentalist Baptist. The Curriculum in the Elementary School (Bob Jones Univ) preaches Religious Intolerance (i.e. Mormons are Sinners etc). The School hires teachers mostly from small mainland Baptist Schools and requires them to attend Baptist Churches. The atmosphere is very Anti-Catholic, Anti-Mormon and anti anything not Baptist. The School does not teach Science - but rather Religion masquerading as Science - (i.e. "the Earth and moon are only 5000 years old" and "If you believe in Evolution you are a follower of Satan.") Every single subject in the Elementary level (Science, Math, Spelling, History etc) is infused with Baptist Dogma. The school should not call itself "NonDenominational. It is strict Baptist and the curriculum at Hanalani falls outside the mainstream Christian values. There are some excellent teachers at the School - but there are also some closed minded teachers who preach intolerance and hatred. I am removing my children from Hanalani.

The upper school education is absolutely horrible. With an extremely high turnover rate, the stability and quality of teaching are below average. Teachers are recruited mostly fresh out of college and from the mainland, lacking experience or a teaching degree. The courses are not challenging and the switch to e-books for critical subjects such as physics and US history are not beneficial. Only one language that extends past level 2. Natural sciences are neglected; Hanalani has hired many incompetent teachers. If you and your child desire a challenging academic experience for 7th through 12th grade, Hanalani is not the way to go. If you and your child desire a safe, mild campus, Hanalani may be the choice.

My daughter loves this school! She has learned so much and has an amazing teacher! I love when she comes home singing all the new songs she has learned or when she shows me her latest project they did in class. What a great program!

Hanalani is a wonderful college prep school for pre-K through twelfth grade. It's a safe and loving environment that feels like a home away from home. My three kids have been at Hanalani for six years now and range from grade six through grade ten. We couldn't be happier, and recommend Hanalani very highly!

Hanalani is just big enough to give the kids that big school feel, but still small enough to give a lot of individual attention. They work hard on the whole person, not just academics. My children are both well ahead of their peers. My 4 year old is already reading small words and recognizes all letters and sounds. The teachers are very loving and caring and communicate regularly to us on how are kids are doing. The school is constantly making improvements. We're very happy with Hanalani Schools.

I love this school! I had an amazing 5-year experience at Hanalani. After moving to a different school, I became really sad and threw a fit because I had to leave my best friends and stuff. :( I still miss this school! It's education system is beyond 5 stars. I love how they get involved with the students. Being a past student at Hanalani, I absolutely enjoyed the years. The money is WORTH IT. My piers are amazing and they don't always rebel. No one EVER ditches class; that's how smart we are. :) The technical interactions are also very good. We touched the basics on how to fix it if it broke. We also were taught on how to work independently because we can't always depend on others to always be there.

As an alumna of the school, I had a great nine years at Hanalani. I was able to graduate with a regular diploma, Communications & Fine Arts Academy diploma, and Servant Leadership Academy diploma by the end of my time there. I took (and passed!) two AP and three honors classes. I was a student leader, theater performer, public speaker/debater, vocal student, violinist, handbells player, National Honor Society member, cross-country runner, track team member, and creative writer. In a larger or more selective school, I am sure that I would not have been able to do all of these things in my high school career! But Hanalani genuinely is a small school with large school opportunities, and I am so grateful that I was able to partner with them to take advantage of all that they offered. Faculty and staff are kind and genuine, and place high importance on each student's emotional and spiritual well-being. Overall, Hanalani most definitely earns the title "School of the Future"; the aim of the school is always to look ahead and keep moving forward towards improvement and greater things. I would absolutely send my future children here!

Hanalani Schools has been wonderful for my 3 children. It is academically challenging, and they are learning so much. But my favorite part is all of the "extras" that Hanalani offers. Fields trips, spirit days, specialty classes that are part of the curriculum (P.E., computers, Japanese, art, library, music) and the extras that are offered, like Robotics. We signed my son up for this after-school class, because he is a hands-on kind of kid. He really enjoyed it, and felt successful making his final project, a Brushbot. I am thankful for the well-rounded education my kids are receiving at Hanalani Schools.

As an alumni of Hanalani, the problems within the school are very evident. The teachers and staff are the main problem. While there are a handful of teachers who are actually there for the well-being of the students, most of the teachers are just out of college. They come to Hawaii, because they think it'll be one big party, and then eventually leave. This leaves no stability for the school as the high turnover rate of teachers are only increasing. Nepotism within the staff is high. Don't be surprised when you find out everyone's related. They also discourage female authority. Religion also plays a big part of the school's curriculum. While they maintain the view that Christianity is a choice, they do a good job at shoving religion down the back of each student's throat. It's almost poetic how students turn rebellious after they graduate (i.e. high school pregnancy, jail, etc.). My senior year was awful. For a college prep high school, they did nothing to help me when applying to college and for scholarships. In fact, I got help and all my information from a public school college counselor. I'd think twice about sending my children here.

My son graduated from Hanalani Schools May of 2012. He attended Hanalani since 8th grade. No school is perfect. Parents have to be involved. Overall, I feel like my son got an excellent education. He ended up with a full scholarship for college. The math program prepared him well for the challenge of higher math in college. The robotics program is known all over the world as they have been international champions. I just met someone who has a child who went to Punahou and got the exact same scholarship as my son. I paid 10K a year for my son's Hanalani experience and I believe Punahou was 18,000? In addition, my son was able to get a very good foundation in Christianity which has allowed him to make very good decisions in the secular world. No doubt, if I had to do it over again, he would go to Hanalani.

My daughter has been attending Hanalani Schools since she was 3 years old. She is now in the 3rd grade. Hanalani Schools is one of the most affordable private schools on this island that offer Pre - K through High School. I couldn't be happier with the choice I made to send her there. Being a single mother, I have to admit, it has not been easy making ends meet. I am very blessed to have received financial assistance through Hanalani Schools Tuition Assistance Program (TAP). It does not fully cover my daughter's tuition, but it sure does help! I have made many sacrifices in order for my daughter to receive an excellent education and I have to tell you, Hanalani Schools is well worth the sacrifice. If you haven't had a chance, stop by and take a tour!!
