My kid who goes here is severely mistreated by their teacher because they cannot defend themselves there. Often times my kid will get yelled at for doing LITTLE THINGS that will annoy the teacher, but you know whats crazy?? ALL THE OTHER KIDS CAN. This teacher is crazy and I do NOT recommend sending your children to this school because of how crazy the teachers here are. They also wont change because the teachers and the directors are friends and the teacher wines to her whenever something doesn't go her way like a child.

Leadership at Variety hires people who are not qualified to teach. "Teachers" are anyone off the street without qualifications or they put young college kids in the classroom and call them teachers. They also itentionally keep parents in the dark about our children.

When we first errolled our child in the beginning we were pleased. We thought maybe we found a good place after looking for a school who can understand what he needs. We were so wrong. Parents just keep looking for a school that will care about your precious child! These other comments giving this school such positive comments do not reflect what many parents think!

This school changed my children's lives. My dyslexic son can now read, and my older son who used to have major anger and emotional control challenges is like a brand-new, happy young man. I volunteer a lot at this school, and I have come across so many happy students and parents who are grateful for what the school has done for them. Parents are very supportive and understanding here, as are the teachers, therapists, and staff. This school is able to educate kids with learning delays and challenges as well as exceptionally intelligent kids with behavior and emotional issues. Kids can be themselves without worrying about being bullied for their differences. They also educate students on the autism spectrum and do wonders for them. They learn life skills so they can be as independent as possible despite their disorder. i'm so proud to see all the students' progress here. I love, love, love this school.

Students here are intimately familiar with people with various differences, and there are no bullies that they need to be afraid of. If there are any signs of "precursors" to bullying, they are addressed immediately. My son, for example, used to have a lot of social problems due to his ADHD and ODD, but his teachers have very successfully helped him be able to control himself. To me, this was nothing short of a miracle.

This school is SPECIFICALLY for students with learning differences. This is absolutely the best school on Oahu for any student with learning differences. The teachers and therapists know how to bring out the best in these children.

They truly care about each child. They are always willing to discuss anything about your child.

Homework is up to the parents. If you, as a parent, don't want your child to have homework, only in certain subjects, or only certain times of the week, for example, the teachers will accommodate. The school is very flexible.

My child started going to this school one year ago and I am very impressed with the staff and educational program. They really motivate their students to learn and develop all their skills. I recommend the school without hesitation for children with autism. Very costly but IMO good school. Anonymous

I was amazed to come across the two negative reviews of this school. My child attended Variety School for three years and I can quite frankly say that his improvement was due to the coordinated effort of the teachers and myself. I have since mainstreamed my child and he is a B student at his new school, and I've had no complaints from teachers/administration about social or behavioral problems. I've highly recommended the school to others and I'd recommend any parent considering Variety School to visit with the administrators and teachers and make the decision you feel is right for you and your child. Choosing Variety School for my child is one of the best decisions I've ever made!

My greatest complaint is that they don't provide curriculum appropriate for the children. Parents assume that when you pay the $14,000+ a year that it comes with high qualified teachers and appropriate curriculum but that is not the case. Poor leadership, poor curriculum and unqualified teachers.

Non-existent leadership, unqualified teachers, makeshift curriculum. Teachers do whatever they want in the classroom, there is no unified behavioral management system, or defined objectives. it is glorified babysitting at this school.
