Honolulu Waldorf School is a truly special place, and as a parent, it is hard to overstate how grateful I am that my son is growing up in this environment.

What makes the school so inspiring is how deeply it honors childhood. There is a real commitment to letting children be children through creative, play-based learning in a natural setting. The campus is full of beauty and life, with ducks, chickens, a worm compost, gardens, mango trees, banana trees, star fruit trees, and wonderful play structures. It is the kind of place that invites curiosity, imagination, movement, and joy.

Our son is in Pre-K, and we have seen such a beautiful impact already. He comes home singing all the time. He would rather play outside and dance than watch TV. He is becoming such a curious, kind, and polite little person, and I believe that is deeply connected to the culture of care, warmth, and respect that surrounds him at school every day.

The teachers are passionate, thoughtful, and clearly love what they do. The parent community is also incredibly dedicated. Parents are regularly on campus helping with projects, participating in crafts, and joining teacher-led conversations about childhood development. There is a strong sense that everyone is invested in creating a nourishing, intentional environment for the children.

I also love how the school approaches learning. Academics are strong, but they are introduced in a way that respects the whole child. Math, art, science, movement, music, languages (japanese/spanish), handwork, woodwork, hula, and plays all come together in a way that feels joyful and engaging. The children are not just learning facts. They are learning how to love learning and be curious about the world around them.

Even the daily rhythms reflect the school’s values. The children make soup once a week, the snacks are healthy and mostly organic, and so much of school life feels grounded in care, connection, and responsibility.

One of the most impressive things to me is the older students. They consistently seem helpful, friendly, engaged, and confident. The school seems to develop good people first, children who think globally, respectful of others, and aware of the environment around them.

For families looking for a school that nurtures creativity, kindness, curiosity, and a true love of learning, Honolulu Waldorf School is an extraordinary place. We feel incredibly lucky to be part of it.

Location by location, Waldorf schools have different reputations. When researching this school before my child attended, I found an article that said, ‘If your child can knit before they can read,’ they are likely in Steiner education. But I was charmed by this lovely little campus and a chance for my child to be artistic and grow up slowly without the demands of tech. It was the biggest mistake I ever made, and I still regret it. Never mind the less-than-rigorous academics; my children were honestly treated awful - and it was by the staff, not the students! I regret my decision to send my children here, as do most parents. This is evident on a school visit, and almost all of the grades classrooms are empty. This is not a place for a child to thrive.

I love this school! It is so nice to be able to learn about various topics with real depth. I used to go to a public school, and it always felt like you had to learn things because it was on a test. Here it feels like you learn it because it matters! There is a depth that you don't feel in other schools.

This school does not have a proper system for teacher selection. Some unfiltered teachers are so much under qualified as educator. Administration is not structured. I can not believe this school is a qualified Waldorf education institution.

I am a student that attended the Waldorf high school as well as going to the lower school for nine years. I think this is truly one of the most amazing schooling systems imaginable. As a student it really encouraged me to have a passion for learning, as well as giving me a wonderful background in art. I am a student with a very high GPA and also very strong in both music and art of varying mediums. In my opinion I owe my success in school to the amazing teachers and alternate education system that is the Honolulu Waldorf School. Truly a magnificent place to grow and learn.

This is the only school that recognizes that every child is unique. Therefore, teachers are very supportive and they help children to develop in a very healthy and positive way.
