APIS provided a phenomenal educational experience for my two boys. There were accomodating to my boys individual educational needs and provided a safe, nurturing learning environment.

Wish the text limit was higher because I have a lot to say about this school.
For those who are considering sending your child to the boarding program, please reconsider. Sure the environment is nice, teachers able to provide special support for students, with a tight knit community. But it is a red flag in my opinion how often both teachers and students leave after coming here for a year. Tons of students leave for other schools after a year, while attending I lost so many friends and having to make new relationships that will only last a few months was simply exhausting.
With how expensive the tuition is, student life and facilities do not reflect the price. They do not manage their facilities enough and it is evident once you step inside the dorms. You will find dorm supplies from students years ago that was never cleaned out. Bathrooms have mold, roach infestations, and are just gross. And the absurd punishments just make students have a hard time at this school. So many teachers get on this power trip of wanting to punish students for the smallest things, the boarding students already have so little freedom. Late for dinner by a minute? If the teacher that night was in a bad mood you would get detention which would range from having to clean out a dirty tool shed by yourself to having to sit in silence for an hour by yourself. All because you were late for dinner by a MINUTE. A lot of the students I know had struggled with emotional and mental problems and there was little support. Lots of love to those teachers who saw how unjust the treatment of students got and tried to stand up for us. But there is a reason why so many students leave after a year, or even months.

Dont want to be too negative so here are some pros:
- the classes are fairly easy
- hands on learning
- family like community
- food is great
- diversity

Cons
- not a lot of sports opportunities
- constant payment requirements
(Boarding students are REQUIRED to do extracurriculars quarterly, where most of the options are $200+)
- little freedom for the students
- lot more focus on hard labor than traditional education
- weird punishments
- not a lot of college prep
- frustrating dorm situations
(You could be paying to be in a double, but they can put you in a triple and refuse to allow change
- frequent change of staff/ teachers
- staff who are mean/ unprofessional to their students (not all but its weird there was some)

APIS is a gem. After recommendation from some friends who loved the school, we decided to apply. Our two children have gone there for the past two years and we do not regret it. Can you believe that kids actually want to go to school and learn?! They learn so much too - Japanese, Korean, guitar, swimming and of course reading, writing, math, science, and social studies. We are excited to see them go on to middle and high school at APIS. Students always seem to graduate to go on to Ivy League schools which is amazing. We love APIS and are so thankful it is here on the North Shore.

The teachers truly care about the students at APIS. My children come home happy, and they are learning so much each day. The most important thing is that they love learning and exploring different passions. There is a reason APIS graduates do so well. I am happy this school option exists on the North Shore. APIS definitely compares to the top town schools.

Small class sizes, project based learning, and beautiful campus makes APIS a great educational option. Teachers are passionate to ensure that each student's individual needs are being met.

APIS is awesome. The first time I stepped foot on campus, I couldn't believe there was an educational option like this here in Hawaii. From the faculty to the food, I love this school. Also it has really grown over the years!

APIS has been an incredible place for student learning. The strong Project-based pedagogy, the relational teachers, and the peaceful campus all lend toward a great schooling experience. My daughter loves her classes, and can't wait to go to school each day.

APIS is a hidden treasure on the North Shore of Oahu. I wanted to send my child to a caring school, where I knew he would be taken care of. As soon as I stepped on to APIS' campus - which is spectacular - I felt safe and warmly welcomed. Unlike the public school options in the area, the teachers and leadership truly care about my child and know him by name. He has made friendships with students from around the world. And even though APIS is a small school, they are able to offer athletics and clubs. I am happy there is a private school on the North Shore! It is amazing the growth in student body we have seen from year-to-year, and I expect it will grow more as others hear about this great school!

The homework that my child receives at APIS is always relevant and meaningful. The teachers are accommodating to give extra work to my child and work with me if needed. They also understand we value our family time.

APIS' core values are about character as a Christian school. It is amazing the values that the school instills, and I love seeing my child self-evaluate his character every quarter!

Nearly $20,000 in yearly tuition later and my child is not doing any better academically than when they went to Laie Elementary. If anything, he has become worse.

APIS class sizes are smaller than public school. This may seem like a good thing, but he is increasingly dependent on attention from his teacher, which has led my son to become insecure in his academic abilities.

Furthermore, the small classes and "personalized" learning does not prepare him for college, where class sizes are typically large and college professors will not give him the extra attention he now expects. This is one of several reasons why kids who come from small private schools statistically underperform in college compared to public school students. Sure, private school can help your child get into college, but it doesn't prepare them with skills to thrive in such a different learning environment.

As for APIS itself, there is a concerningly high turnover rate among the teaching staff. Many of the teachers are unqualified and lack experience. My money would be better spent putting him back in Laie Elementry and hiring a tutor, if needed.
