My son has been feeling suicidal due to his teachers putting so much stress on him, he is also being faced with racism. Teacher’s don’t care for the wellbeing of students. There’s no safety either, there’s gangs in that school that bully kids

I am not happy with this school at all. Seems like the staff and kids pick a kid to pick on target them constantly. Makes me fee like my kid is a trouble maker. Instead of having one on one conversations with the kid, they constantly email the parent on petty things. I am surprised that I don't get emails stating that my kid farted in class today. I mean seriously, you can't even breath without a teacher's permission. I have never experienced such horrible staff in my life before, I have a 16 year old who went to public school in Chicago and never had to deal with this kind of racism it feels like. I feel that we are being targeted by the staff.

This school is great and my kids are happy every day after school. Has a lot of activities after school. And prepares them for high school.

Does not prepare kids for high school at all. Have had 3 children (all very different) go through Springman - all of them had very little homework and little to no need to ever study for tests - in fact, it is standard policy for kids to be allowed retests on all tests (which is not how the real world operates). The high school is good; however, District 34 is the worst of all the feeder districts (students from 34 struggle the most of all the feeder districts - that is a fact). Can't speak for the other middle school in this district, but Springman is terrible. All of my children were ill-prepared for high school - it is difficult to jump from having very little homework and no need to study, to suddenly needing to do homework and study for tests, but not knowing how because one never had to before and was never taught how. Just speaking from my experience.

The teachers in D34 are just SO bad. We have lived in other towns and have never encountered such widespread issue with teachers. It's depressing, honestly. Our daughter is a good student, social, outgoing, no behavioral issues, but it is just the ATTITUDE of the teachers, and we see it year after year, class after class, and we never saw it in any other school district before. Sadly, the kids pick up on it. These teachers are clearly protected by a union and don't feel like they need to be polite, respectful of parents, or even remotely interested in their jobs. We've had teachers show up repeatedly three days a week for months, to teachers screaming at kids and threatening them if their internet went out during a zoom class when things went to remote, to teachers talking about kids' parents on messenger with children. It's shocking, it's unprofessional, and it is a widespread issue in the district that we have seen every single year that we have been here, both in the elementary school and now in the middle school. It's incredibly disappointing and overshadows any of the academic programs the district offers. My daughter used to be a well-adjusted, happy kid who LOVED school...until we moved into D34.

They are awesome. This is our second daughter through Springman and they are truly the dedicated & caring educators that you want to have in the school.

This one starts with the parents. That being said... the school has encouraged and nurtured my daughters to be better people. CHARACTER COUNTS!! It's the right motto and the teachers & staff know how important it is to convey to the students.

My daughter is in her second year at Springman and is loving it. She is learning to take responsibility for the completion and submission of her work. Her teachers are always available for extra help,when you request help. As with every school, there are some bullies, but certainly not an pervasive issue. As a matter of fact, the school does a great job trying to address bullying issue by establish school values and communicating those values. At the start of their Springman experience, each student is required to sign an anti-bullying contract. Lastly, Springman offers a ton of opportunities for children to get active and participate in after school events, clubs and sports.

The approach to homework drives children to improve their executive functioning skills. Each child receives an ipad, and is required to take responsibility for the successful completion of their work. Homework is posted online. Each child can easily communicate with their teachers if they have homework questions. The homework is relevant to the information being discussed in class.

My son was bullying and attacked by a mob for weeks before anyone noticed. He thought it would be worse if he spoke up. No accountability. Changed in leadership almost each year he was there.

I have one child who graduated from Springman last year and a current 7th grade student.

I am very happy with the leadership of the new principal and feel he is well on his way to establishing a strong relationship with students and parents as well as with his faculty and administrators. He was swift to take action last year on a situation with a sub-par teacher (who is no longer there this year) leading me to believe he is looking to improve his school and is capable of making changes no matter how difficult. My children have had high quality teachers (except for the one who is no longer there) and have had an appropriate amount of homework (a big step up from Intermediate School). In addition to standard review packets, multiple teachers have offered valuable tools such as early morning review sessions before tests. This has been really helpful to my children. I am told they are well attended, which leads me to believe many students are engaged and motivated to learn and do well, and teachers are there to support them. Along those lines, I appreciated that Springman faculty/staff put together a Parent Education Night this fall to help parents learn about the different technology applications to help them navigate the tools and devices used in middle school. I appreciate the partnership they are fostering with parents to keep us in the know on the ever changing technology used for homework, grading and communication.

I feel that the future is bright for Springman in the wake of new, effective leadership and motivated teachers.

Amazing! The teachers and administrative staff has been perfect. It's a challenging environment in a good way. The teachers have pushed without pushing too hard and the results have been extremely rewarding. The culture of this school far surpasses our previous school from out of the area. We have all been extremely happy and highly recommend this school to anyone moving into the area.

This school is terrible. The teachers and have extreme trouble controlling their classes. Some teachers had to call in the Principal or Assistant Principal in order to keep the class from exploding. Even then, the children still managed to revolt. Although that probably was the right decision. To revolt, that is. The teachers always seemed to have the wrong idea, and didn't compromise with the students at all. Sometimes, in order to remain correct, the teachers would contradict themselves. The computers, although not terrible, are outdated. As well, the Tech Facilitator was cut when they spent her part of the budget on buying iPads for the younger, irresponsible students. Then, several intelligent students discovered a flaw in the school's security system. Even though they brought it up on several occasions with the replacement facilitator, the school took no action to correct the flaws. The end result were tutorials circulating around that detailed how to use the flaw to hack the school. The flaw in the security system ended with every student being able to change each other's grades and other things. This school is broken, and you should not send your children to this school.

Springman Middle School is not a very good school for various reasons. First, it does not meet many expectations of a school that may be considered 'good'. No matter how many times a teacher might threaten a student for a detention, they never seem to actually give them, which causes the students to do whatever they're doing to cause this problem. Either that, or they might give detentions too easily. I will not name any teachers or students, although my student got a detention for talking in class. I mean, yes, that is disruptive, but my student did not get any sort of warning or chance to switch their behavior. Second, the lunch can give you food poisoning. The ladies who work in the cafeteria don't care about what we're consuming at all. They'll just plop some fake meat on chips and call it everyone's favorite lunch when in reality, most people would rather not eat the food at all just so they wouldn't be forced to eat something like that. If you forget your ID you have to wait in a separate line and wait until everyone else gets their lunch just to find out that the food you're looking forward to is gone. I don't recommend this school at all and if you get the chance, go Attea!

I just left 8th grade at Springman Middle School and I can honestly say that I loved it. The teachers particularly on the Discovery and Explorer team are honestly there to help you. The former assistant principle is there to help you and guide you through anything. The teachers and staff overall at Springman are incredible. They listen to everyone and will help you with anything. They work around you and you're schedule just to make sure you will succeed. At the end of my three years at Springman everyone had become a family. I'm truly going to miss that. I do feel well prepared for high school and am super excited! The teachers also make sure to keep in touch with parents, they respond to emails quickly because they want us to succeed more than anything else. Overall my school experience here was the best couldn't have asked for anything better/

The school doesn't deserve this high rating. I do agree with the previous review...its all about tests and looking good.On the behavioral level, I don't see them "dealing" with problems, instead they want to "get rid" of the problems. Again, its all about looking good.They make a big deal of certain things, not paying attention to what their job is: academic education. I also think its time to change the principal?? Change is good. The social workers need to step back as well. I think they overstep their boundries. Some were just rude. On occasion (and have had more than one child in that school--glad its over) it felt like I was talked down to by office staff and administration. Most teachers are great though. Open to communication but some are too laid back, as one parent said...kids get too many breaks. Were they ready for high school after Springman? NO!! The reality hit them hard when they entered high school. The gap is way too big between Springman and GBS. I question their fairness when dealing with certain situations and that's with teachers and administration. On the surface everything seems nice, things change when problems come up. Hey, but Nurse rocks!
