Special education team is great. My kids feel pretty safe at school. There could be less fights.

Fast track kids are noticed and placed in challenging environment. Teachers involved and supportive when communication lines are established.

These terms are cultivated at home first and foremost. The rules are in place and have not had issue with children's conduct.

Generally speaking school has an identity and faculty are approachable. Though when my dog jumped in the principals car that was a bit embarrassing.

Our family is second generation Viking Middle School attendees. The opportunities to learn and excel are abundant. Several options to fast track well developed students and assist challenged students. IPAD curriculum is a plus to learn while engaging technology. Also serves as a great tool to maximize communication. Ultimately all three of my personal stories here are of success which is not a guarantee in this transitional stage of a child becoming a young adult. Thank you Viking.

My daughter attended this school in 7th and 8th grade after attending several schools that didn't quite work for us. Their drama and fine arts afforded her experiences that she would have never had anywhere else. She was able to travel with her drama club to The Grand Ole Opry to perform in a theater festival. Additionally, she was placed in many advanced classes and completed freshmen algebra. She was well prepared for high school. Additionally, the communication from the superintendent and faculty are superior to any other we've experienced!

Viking is a great school with incredible technology and opportunities for our kids. Every student gets an ipad to do their work and they take them home!

This school has a program called TEAM Lead that helps students develop these characteristics. The children become strong leaders through this program.

Fantastic band program. Drama and sports are both excellent, as well. When I attended this school, our sports teams consistently beat Woodland's even though Viking is a much smaller school. I learned a lot and was well prepared for high school. As with any school, teachers can be a mixed bag ranging from dedicated and talented to somewhat dishonest, but overall I felt that I experienced some amazing teachers. My one complaint would be the handling of students who harass others. Some teachers and administration would step in and report it, effectively dealing with the harassment, but others seemed afraid of the students themselves and would turn a blind eye to what was going on. 2004-07

As a parent, I am so pleased with the opportunities available to my daughter at Viking. She attended 7th and 8th grade here. We have moved many times and have experience in many different schools; private and public. Viking simply exceeded all of our expectations. The teachers were supportive, encouraging, involved, and communicative. Their drama and musical programs are exceptional. I would recommend Viking with full confidence. My daughter received a great foundation during a critical period of adolescence.

My wife and I attribute a large part of the success of our three children to the school system. Viking was on the path of their education from 2001-2009. We currently know children of relatives and friends who are currently attending and they report very good experiences. So nothing has changed. As a general observation of the comment ratings here it is plainly obvious that there are very two kinds of people; the very satisfied and the disgruntled (one star ratings). Curious there is not real in-between. This reminds me of the two kinds of parents we met while our kids attended grade school; Parents who were always engaged in their child's education, and the parents who expected the school to do the parenting for them. I expect this is no different in surbana public schools. You get out of it what you put into it.

Too negative for words. This school is staffed by arrogant, incompetent teachers who are too lazy to keep children under control or enforce any educational standards. The administration was powerless to stop the chaotic mess of teacher disobedience and student misbehavior. The educational standards consisted of coloring between the lines and other such busywork. Children were rewarded with candy for basic compliance of flushing toilets and doing their homework. Money was spent in all the wrong places. Lots of technology, but no books. Poorly behaved students were rarely punished. Overall, a mismanaged school that lacks basic dignity for both teacher and student.

Words can not describe my contempt for this school and the district. It is truly disheartening how a school with so much wealth, resources, and opportunities could fail so much.

Overall this school is a quality school. There is temendous diversity (racial and socioeconomical) which aids social exposure but can bring problems as well. Overall, the smaller size (compaired to woodland) aids individual growth. There are many things for students to get involved in with sports, music, arts, clubs and intramurals. Since the school is smaller there is less competition so most kids that tryout or want to participate in an activity can. The band program is fantastic. Teachers are great for the most part. There are a good amount of absolutly wonderful teachers that every kid gets at least one while there. I am going into my senior year at warren and I can honestly say Viking kids are just as prepared for high school as woodland kids. Often times, Viking kids liked Viking better than Woodland kids liked Woodland because of the oppourtunities that were available.
